- 1 game board
- 4 hedgehogs in 4 colors
- 4 balloons
- 40 cards: 24 route cards, 8 pop cards, 8 refill cards, each showing a sample picture
- 1 set of game instructions
Preparation
Assemble the game board and place it in the center of the table. Each player picks a hedgehog, gives him a balloon (see picture) and places him on the starting space. Extra hedgehogs and balloons will not be needed for this game. Shuffle the cards face down. Players each receive three cards and hold them in their hands so the other players can't see them. The remaining cards are placed face down in a draw pile next to the game board.
Board labels as printed: Start & filling station; Fork in the path; Filling station (two labels, on the path); Finish.
How to Play
Play in a clockwise direction. The player with the spikiest hair starts the game. Place one of your cards face up next to the draw pile. This will be the discard pile.
What card did you play?
-
Route card – Move your hedgehog forward (or backward, see "Pop card") the number of spaces shown on the card. If you are at a fork on the path, you can choose the path you want to take.
-
Pop card – Shout "Pop!" and pop the balloon of any fellow player you choose. Take the player's balloon and set it to the side to reserve for future play.
Caution: If this player is next, he will first have to return to the last filling station behind him in order to get a new balloon (from the reserve) from the squirrel marshal. Unless he has a refill card...
-
Refill card – If another player has popped your balloon, then when you play this card a rabbit accomplice secretly helps you grab a new balloon from the reserve and fill it up with air. When playing this card you do not have to return to the last filling station, but instead on your next turn you can start again towards the finish line. If you choose, you can play this card even when you don't need a new balloon; simply use this card as a normal route card to move your hedgehog forward.
Next, pick a new card from the draw pile so that you have three cards in your hand. If there are no cards left in the draw pile, shuffle the discard pile and use it as the new draw pile.
It is now the next player's turn.
Important hedgehog rules
- Players are only allowed to move one balloon toward the finish line.
- The filling station is a safe zone. If a player's hedgehog is on one of these spaces, other players cannot pop this player's balloon.
- If a player has to return to the filling station, the player can use any extra points on their card to continue moving forward immediately.
End of Game
The game ends when one player moves a balloon onto or past the finish line, thus winning the game.
