Components and Assembly
- 4 dinomoms and 8 rivets (species: stegosaurus, triceratops, ankylosaurus, brontosaurus)
- 20 baby dinos of four different species
- 12 spare baby dinos (you don't need to assemble them)
- This rulebook
- Die
Before assembly, remove the extra cardboard pieces from slots and openings.
Assembling a dinomom
- Pressing the sides together, insert the spine into the slot on the top. The head must face the side marked "1".
- Release the sides and insert the spine into the front and rear slots.
- Fold the side flap marked "1" inwards, then the flap marked "2", then the remaining flap.
- Insert rivets on both sides.
At the end of the game don't disassemble the dinomoms, just put them inside the box on their sides and let them rest after the long day.
Setup
- Assemble the baby dinos, inserting them into bases of the same color.
- Shuffle the 20 baby dinos (4 species, 5 figurines each) and separate them into random groups of 5. Try to remember which dino is where.
- Cover the groups of dinos with dinomoms.
- Place the die within reach.
- Choose the first player. It can be the one who watched a cartoon about dinosaurs most recently.
Gameplay
Players take turns, starting with the first player.
At your turn, roll the die, perform the indicated action, then pass the turn to the player on your left. All the actions are described below.
Find a dino
It's time for the baby dino to head home! Where could it be?
Roll the die and see which dino you rolled. Now choose any dinomom you think it is hiding under. Lift that dinomom and see if the dino you are looking for is under her. Let everyone see who is hiding under that dinomom.
- If you found one or more of the rolled baby dino, take one and put it in front of you.
- If the rolled baby dino wasn't there, nothing happens. Put the dinomom back, covering the baby dinos.
- If all 5 baby dinos of that species have already been taken by players, the game ends.
- If there are no baby dinos under that dinomom, the game ends.
Example turn: Emily has rolled a brontosaurus. She chooses and lifts one dinomom, letting everyone see the baby dinos hiding under her. There are a stegosaurus, an ankylosaurus and two brontosauruses. Emily takes one brontosaurus, puts the dinomom back and passes the turn to Mary.
Pterodactyl
A pterodactyl hovers above! Quick, help the baby dinos hide!
Name a species of dino of your choice and lift any two dinomoms.
- If you find one or more of the baby dino you named, take one and put it in front of you. Next, everyone but you closes their eyes. You can take any baby dino from under the second dinomom and put it into the spot you just took a dino from. Put both dinomoms back.
- If there are none of the named dinos under either dinomom, nothing happens. Put the dinomoms back.
- If there are no dinos under any of the two dinomoms, the game ends.
Example turn: Mary has rolled a pterodactyl. She names an ankylosaurus, then chooses two dinomoms and lifts them. There is an ankylosaurus and a stegosaurus under the first one and two ankylosauruses and two brontosauruses under the second one. Mary takes an ankylosaurus from under the first dinomom.
After that each other player closes their eyes, and Mary takes a brontosaurus from under the second dinomom and puts it under the first one, from under which she's taken the baby dino. Next she puts both dinomoms back in their places and asks everyone to open their eyes. Mary passes the turn to Andy.
Tyrannosaurus
You hear the terrifying roar of a T-Rex from afar! The baby dinos squeeze their eyes in fear, one even ran home!
Everyone but you closes their eyes. Lift any dinomom and take any baby dino from under her. If there are no dinos under her, nothing happens. Put the dinomom back. Everyone opens their eyes.
Example turn: Andy rolled a tyrannosaurus. All other players close their eyes. Andy chooses a dinomom, lifts her and sees a stegosaurus, a triceratops and an ankylosaurus. Andy takes a triceratops. Then he puts the dinomom back in place and asks everyone to open their eyes. Andy passes the turn to George.
End of Game
The game ends in one of two cases:
- If someone rolled a species of dino none of which is left under any dinomom (meaning all 5 dinos of that species have already been taken by the players).
- If a player lifts a dinomom, and everyone sees that there are no more dinos under her.
The player with the most dinos wins the game. In case of a tie, the player with the most dinos of the same species wins the game. If that does not resolve the tie, each of these players is considered a winner.
