  • 1 scoring pad

Object of the Game

The player with the most points wins.

Setup

Place the scoring pad and a pencil ready. Write the players' names in the top row of the scoring pad.

Shuffle the 60 mushroom cards and place them together as the mushroom-card draw pile in the middle of the table. From it, lay out the top four mushroom cards with their back sides facing up in the middle of the table; they form the display (Auslage).

ATTENTION: The mushroom cards show mushrooms on both sides. The "back side" (Rückseite) always refers to the side lying covered. When drawing, mushroom cards are placed into the display with their back sides facing up. This means that when you draw mushroom cards you should already remember which mushrooms are on both sides of each card.

Shuffle the 26 action cards and deal three of them face down to each player. Each player picks up their cards to form their hand. Place the remaining action cards, with the words "Panik Pilze" facing up, as an extra action-card draw pile (next to the mushroom-card draw pile) ready to use.

Example setup (diagram, not reproduced). Its caption reads: "Current game state: each player has already collected all five mushroom types in their mushroom basket." The diagram labels a player's mushroom basket as "Pilzkorb (Spieler A)" and their hand as "Handkarten (Spieler A)", and marks the action-card draw pile, the action-card discard pile (Ablage Aktionskarten), the mushroom-card draw pile and the display (Auslage).

The Game Begins!

Everyone wants to collect as many mushrooms as possible in their "mushroom basket" (Pilzkorb), that is, gather them in and lay them out in front of themselves. The youngest player begins and now has one of the three following options:

  • Play a collect card (Sammelkarte ausspielen)
  • Play a special card (Sonderkarte ausspielen)
  • Swap action cards (Aktionskarten tauschen)

Collect card (Sammelkarte): First the player must carry out the action shown in the top-left corner of their card. Then they take from the display all mushrooms of the kind shown on their card and place them as a stack in their mushroom basket. The side showing the collected mushroom type must face up. The collect card's action is one of four:

  • Draw 1 mushroom card: 1 mushroom card from the mushroom-card draw pile is placed additionally (with its back side facing up) in the display.
  • Draw 2 mushroom cards: 2 cards from the mushroom-card draw pile are placed additionally (with their back sides facing up) in the display.
  • Turn 1 card: 1 card in the display is turned over onto its back side.
  • Turn 2 cards: 2 cards in the display are turned over onto their back sides.

Special card (Sonderkarte): The player plays either the Mushroom Party card or the Steal card:

  • Mushroom Party card (Pilzparty-Karte): The player chooses any one mushroom type and takes all mushrooms of that type from the display. They place them in their mushroom basket as a stack of that same type, with that type facing up.
  • Steal card (Klau-Karte): The player takes one openly lying mushroom card from the mushroom basket of an opponent of their choice. They place the stolen mushroom card in their own mushroom basket with the same side facing up.

Swap action cards (Aktionskarten tauschen): Instead of playing one of their action cards, the player may place one, two or all three of the action cards from their hand onto the action-card discard pile and draw the same number of action cards.

Mushroom basket (Pilzkorb): If a mushroom stack of a certain type is already present in a player's mushroom basket, the player places further mushroom cards of that type openly on this stack. For further mushroom types, the player opens a new stack in the mushroom basket.

The mushrooms on the back sides of collected mushroom cards have no significance for the rest of the game and are not scored at the end of the game.

The played action card is placed next to the action-card draw pile and forms the discard pile. The player draws one action card so that they again hold three cards in hand. If there are now fewer than four mushroom cards in the middle of the table, the player draws that many mushroom cards from the mushroom-card draw pile and places them with their back sides facing up, so that four mushroom cards lie in the display again.

After that, the next player in clockwise order takes their turn.

If the action-card draw pile is used up, shuffle the discard pile and place it as the new action-card draw pile.

End of the Game and Scoring

The game ends as soon as the last card has been laid out from the mushroom-card draw pile. Now the scoring follows. The points for all five mushroom types are added up for each player. The player with the most points wins. If there is a tie on points, there are several winners.

Scoring

For each of the five mushroom types, the first three players with the most collected mushrooms of that type are scored:

  • The player with the most mushrooms of a type receives 3 points, the player with the second most receives 2 points, and the player with the third most receives 1 point.
  • EXCEPTION: The player with the most collected red Panik mushrooms receives an extra point for first place, so 4 points instead of 3.
  • In a mushroom tie, each player involved receives the points intended for that place.
  • A player who has collected no mushrooms of a type is not scored and always receives 0 points for that type.

The leaflet shows an example scoring pad with a column per mushroom type and per player; the pad itself is not reproduced.

Two-Player Game

The rules remain unchanged. However, in scoring only the player with the most collected mushrooms of each type is scored. For the most collected mushrooms of a type, that player gets 1 point, and the other player gets 0 points. In a tie, both players get 1 point. For the most collected red Panik mushrooms, the player gets 2 points (instead of 1 point).
