For 3 to 8 players, ages 7 and up.
Goal of the Game
Have the fewest cards at the end of the game.
Setup
Shuffle the cards, then deal 3 to each player, face down, and have them place their cards in front of themselves without looking at them. The rest of the deck forms a face-down draw pile at the side of the table.
How to Play
The game is played over several rounds. The first round is started by the player who does the best mammoth impression.
That player turns over one of their cards, places it in the center of the table, says the sound shown on it, and challenges another player by pointing at them while clearly saying "HA!"
The challenged player then turns over a card from their own hand and stacks it on top of the card in the middle of the table. They must then say the sounds of both stacked cards (first the hidden one, then the one on top of the pile). They then challenge another player by saying "HA!" and pointing at them as described above.
Note: you must challenge a different player from the one who just challenged you.
Play continues this way: each challenged player adds a card to the pile, repeats all the previous sounds in order finishing with their own, and challenges the next player.
The 4 Action Cards
When an action card is played, no new sound is added, but the action shown on it must be performed instead.
- Bang your fist on the table
- Clap your hands once
- Stick out your tongue
- Repeat the last sound (or the last action). Note: do nothing if this is the first card of the round.
Mistakes
If a player makes a mistake — forgets a sound, stumbles over their words, or hesitates too long — the other players may accuse them by pointing at them and saying "HO!" Everyone then checks whether the accusation is correct.
- If it is correct, the accused player receives a penalty. This penalty consists of the face-up cards from the middle of the table, which they collect and stack in front of themselves. In addition, each accuser gives them one of their own "penalty" cards, if they have any.
- If the accusers were wrong, they are the ones who collect the pile of face-up cards as a penalty. The wrongly accused player deals the cards to them clockwise, starting with the player on their left. If only one player made the wrong accusation, that player alone collects the whole pile as a penalty.
Ooga Booga
If a player manages to place their third and last card on the pile and repeat all the cards up to and including their own, they shout "OOGA BOOGA!"
They may then take the pile of face-up cards and deal them out to the other players as a penalty, starting with the player on their left. If they hold any "penalty" cards, they include those in the deal as well.
New Round
After each interruption (an accusation or an "Ooga Booga"), each player's hand is topped back up to 3 cards from the draw pile. The player at fault, or the one who shouted "OOGA BOOGA!", turns over one of their cards and play continues as described above.
End of the Game
The game ends when there are no longer enough cards in the draw pile to bring every player's hand back up to 3. Each player counts all the face-up cards in front of them, and whoever has the fewest is elected clan chief! Whoever has the most is applauded for their perseverance.
Junior Variant
To reduce the difficulty, you can rely on your visual memory. Play with a different way of stacking the cards: each card played only covers half of the previous card. This way, the letters are hidden, but the illustration on each card in play always stays visible.
