How do I tell Short missions from Long missions, and how do I set the game length?

By the card back: Short missions have a half-circle red background and Long missions a full circle. Each game uses three Mission cards, and the mix sets the length — all short is quick, all long is longest, and the rulebook's setup picture shows two short and one long. In solo play the mix is the player's choice.
