What are the First Colonist tiles for?
The designer described the tiles' uses; the multiplayer variant is as quoted from the rulebook by players.

They let players who cannot agree on a starting position get one assigned at random, and in solo play they are used to move Lacerda in turn order. In a multiplayer game you place your marker on the Turn Order space the tile shows and take that space's bonus, instead of also choosing a space yourself. Separate First Colonist cards reward players who achieve their goals.
