Object of the Game
"Break the stereotype and become the team (or the player) who knows the most about the rival generation!"
Setup
There are two ways to play. Create two groups based on generation (Old School vs. New School), or, if everyone is more or less the same age, each player plays for themselves!
Shuffle both decks separately. Give each team a score sheet and a pencil.
Who is the Old School? Boomers and Generation X, born before 1980.
Who is the New School? Millennials and Generation Z, born from 1980 onward.
Old School vs. New School
Shuffle both decks separately. Teams read the questions of their own School to the opposing team, so the Old School deck goes to the Old School team and the New School deck goes to the New School team. Give each team a score sheet and a pencil.
One School
If you are all the same age, you can still play this game! Shuffle the "New School" or "Old School" deck. Play with the deck that is the opposite of your School. Give each player a score sheet. You will need to supply extra pencils or pens, one per player!
How to Play
New School vs. Old School
The Old School is the first team to have to answer, because let's face it... that's how the world works. A player from the opposing team becomes the Reader, draws a card from the appropriate deck and reads it aloud. If the card contains an image, the Reader must make sure to cover the answer with their hand before showing it to the rival team. The team that must answer has 30 seconds to discuss before giving an answer. If they answer correctly, they earn one point and record it on their score sheet. If they answer incorrectly, nothing happens. The card is discarded and play passes to the other team. A team during the game may have only one Reader, or each player may take turns becoming the Reader... you are all adults, we think you can work it out on your own!
The manual illustrates the two decks with sample cards. An Old School card asks "In what year did the first Woodstock concert take place?" with the answers A: 1969, B: 1970, C: 1967. A New School card shows an image of a scrunchie under the question "What is this?"
One School
The youngest player goes first. The player to their right is the Reader. The Reader draws a card and reads it aloud. If the card contains an image, the Reader must make sure to cover the answer with their hand before showing it to the player, who has 30 seconds to give an answer. If they guess correctly, they score one point. If they are wrong, nothing happens. The card is discarded and play passes to the player on the left.
Tip: An answer may be considered correct if it comes very close to the right answer.
End of the Game
New School vs. Old School
The team that first reaches 10 points wins!
One School
The player who first reaches 5 points wins!
