Game Idea
Players will be shaking their mixers at the same time, trying to get their ingredients from the start area to the goal area. The ingredients should be shaken into the goal area in a specific order. You can stop at any time to try and win the most valuable Glyx cards, but if you misjudge, you will be handing your opponents points.
Setting up the game
Each player takes a Myxxer and one ingredient of each colour. Each Myxxer has a Goal Area and a Start Area.
We won't be needing the black mouse poop until round 2!
Sort the Glyx cards according to their colour. Shuffle each deck well, creating 5 different, face-down draw piles.
Place the sand timer next to the cards.
Place the Stop cards in the middle of the table, according to the number of players:
- 2 players: Stop cards 1 and 2
- 3 players: Stop cards 1, 2 and 3
- 4 players: Stop cards 1, 2, 3 and 4
How the game works
The game lasts 7 rounds. Each round is made up of 5 steps:
- Determine the Glyx formula
- Add ingredients to the Myxxer
- Mix Nitro Glyxerol
- Take Glyx cards
- Give out the mouse poop (for the next round)
1. Determine the Glyx formula
One player takes the topmost Glyx card from each draw pile, shuffles them together and places them, face-up, in a row on the table. Then he flips them over. Now the Glyx formula can be seen.
The Glyx formula lets you know the order your ingredients should be in when you shake them into the goal area of your Myxxer! The formula is for all players until the end of the round.
2. Add ingredients to the Myxxer
Each player places their 5 ingredients in any way they want in the start area of their Myxxer.
The ingredients can be placed any way ... as long as all ingredients are completely within the area.
3. Mix Nitro Glyxerol
Players together give the starting signal ... and the owner of the mouse poop flips the timer. (In the first round, the oldest player flips the timer.)
All players must now get mixing! Each player may:
- mix as long as the sand timer is running (to possibly complete the entire Glyx formula)
- stop at any time before that (and be satisfied with a possibly unfinished Glyx formula in their goal area)
If you stop mixing, grab the lowest available Stop card. Once you have done this you may not touch your Myxxer anymore! If the timer runs out, you must also grab a card.
How to mix
- Move the ingredients by turning, shaking or moving the Myxxer any way you like!
- You may not touch any ingredients with your fingers!
- Move ingredients in and out of the goal area as long as you like! No position in the goal area is final while the sand timer is running and you haven't taken a Stop card.
- If an ingredient falls out of the Myxxer, you may grab it with your fingers and put it back in the start area (or you go on mixing without that ingredient).
4. Take Glyx cards
The 5 Glyx cards will now be given out to the players. To see who gets what, players will have a look at the formulas they mixed!
The player that took Stop card 1 is the first to 'drink' their Nitro Glyxerol. After that, the player that took Stop card 2, then 3, and finally 4 'drink' their potions.
The player that is currently 'drinking' their potion takes the:
- first Glyx card in the row if the first ingredient in their goal area matches the colour of that card. If the card has already been taken, the player gets nothing for that colour.
- other Glyx cards, as long as the order of colours is continuously the same as the order in the player's goal area. If those cards have already been taken, the player gets nothing for those colours.
- If one ingredient is in the wrong position, the player gets nothing for that colour and for every colour after that in the row – not even for ingredients that follow up in the right position (!).
Example see page 9.
5. Give out the mouse poop
Whoever took Stop card 1 in the previous round now takes the mouse poop. In the following round, the following things happen:
- Place the mouse poop with your other ingredients in the start area of your Myxxer in the next round.
- It is your job to flip the sand timer when you begin mixing.
- If you want to score any Glyx cards, you must move the mouse poop to the front most position of your goal area! That means, put the first ingredient of the Glyx formula in the second position of your goal area, the second ingredient in the third position, etc. Only then can you score any cards!
Speech bubble on the page: "Whoops! You'll have to clean up after me first! Your ingredients will only take effect if my poop is the first cube in the goal area! We call it 'extraction'!"
Example: Who gets what?
Toby has Stop card 1, Kiera has Stop card 2, Marco has Stop card 3, Andrea has Stop card 4.
Who gets the first (green) Glyx card?
- Toby has Stop card 1, but his first ingredient (purple) does not match the first ingredient of the Glyx formula. Toby therefore does not get the card.
- Kiera took Stop card 2, and green is the first ingredient in her goal area. Kiera gets the green Glyx card.
- Marco and Andrea also have the green ingredient as the first in their goal area. But they were too late with Stop cards 3 and 4: the green Glyx card has already been taken by Kiera. Marco and Andrea therefore also get nothing for green.
Who gets the second (blue) Glyx card?
- Toby has the blue ingredient in the second position, which is correct. But because he made a mistake with the first ingredient, he cannot get any Glyx cards after the one he made a mistake in. So Toby doesn't get the blue Glyx card... or any cards this round, for that matter!
- Kiera, Marco and Andrea also managed to get the blue ingredient into the second position, and because Kiera has the lowest Stop card (the 2), she gets the card.
- Marco and Andrea don't get anything.
Who gets the third (red) Glyx card?
- Poor Toby, even though red is in the right position, he gets nothing. We shouldn't rub it in!
- Kiera has made a mistake here: she has put the yellow ingredient in the third position where the red ingredient should be! She therefore misses out in the red Glyx card (and as a result, any other cards for this round).
- Marco and Andrea were more careful and have placed their red ingredients in the third spot. But only one player can get the Glyx card: Marco, because he has the Stop card 3, which is lower than Andrea's 4.
Who gets the fourth (yellow) Glyx card?
- Toby and Kiera can't win the card, as they have already found mistakes in their formula. So it doesn't matter if the yellow ingredient is in the right spot or not!
- Marco doesn't even have a fourth ingredient in his goal area. This counts as a mistake!
- Only Andrea's ingredients are all in the right order. She gets the yellow Glyx card.
Who gets the fifth (purple) Glyx card?
- At this stage, Andrea is the only player that hasn't made a mistake so far, so she is the only person that could possibly win the purple Glyx card... however, she didn't manage to get the purple ingredient into her goal area in time! As a result, nobody wins the fifth Glyx card.
Some more examples
Kiera did well this round: her four ingredients are in exactly the right order, and she got Stop card 1! Kiera gets the first four Glyx cards. Andrea gets the red card. She (as opposed to Toby) managed to get all 5 ingredients into the right positions. Marco managed it also, but his Stop card was unfortunately higher than Andrea's.
Stop cards: Kiera 1, Toby 2, Andrea 3, Marco 4.
Marco gets the blue Glyx card. Tobias gets the yellow, red, purple and green Glyx cards. Andrea and Kiera get nothing.
Stop cards: Marco 1, Andrea 2, Tobias 3, Kira 4.
Prepare the next Formula
If any cards are still in the formula at the end of the round, put them back in the game box. Then place all Stop cards back in the middle of the table, taking one card from each pile, shuffling and laying out a new formula (step 1).
Game End
After seven rounds, all Glyx cards will be gone. The game is now over. Whoever collected the most valuable Glyx cards wins the game! Each player counts the values on their cards and the player with the highest total is the winner, not to mention stunningly beautiful, infinitely rich, mind-blowingly intelligent, and can travel at light speed through the galaxy! Congratulations!
Tie-break: the English pages do not state one. The German section of the same rulebook says: if several players have the same total, the player who collected more Glyx cards wins, and there may be several winners.
