Components

  • Cards: 36 total
    • Base Set: Ship Crossing the Stars (星を渡る船), 16 cards
    • Advanced Set: Hanging Gardens (空中庭園), 16 cards
    • Expansion Set, 4 cards
  • Rule Summary cards, 4
  • This rulebook, 1

The game includes the Base Set and the Advanced Set. Each plays as a different game.

Card Anatomy

  • Search Order (探索順): The order in which a player searches during the Search Phase (described below). A player with a lower value can search for the "Lost Legacy" earlier.
  • Card Name: The name of the card.
  • Card Count: Shows how many copies of this card there are. The list of all cards is printed on the Rule Summary, for reference during play.
  • Effect:
    • "When used" effect: What is done when this card is used.
    • "Other special effects": Some cards have effects that trigger in other circumstances, such as when another player sees the card, or when the card is in a discard pile, rather than when it is used.
  • Expansion Symbol: A single kanji that identifies the card's set. Base Set cards show 船 (ship), Advanced Set cards show 空 (sky), and Expansion Set cards show 拡 (expansion).

Winning the Game

A player who meets either of the following conditions is the winner:

  • All other players are eliminated from the game.
  • During the Search Phase, the player searches and finds the "Lost Legacy" (the "lost heritage").

Setup

  1. Choose either the Base Set (Ship Crossing the Stars) or the Advanced Set (Hanging Gardens) and play with its 16 cards. Return the cards that are not used to the box.
    • The Select Card System, which mixes the Base Set, Advanced Set and Expansion Set, is explained in the Optional Rules section.
    • If you are playing for the first time, the manual recommends the Base Set to become familiar with the game.
  2. Gather the 16 cards used in the game, shuffle them face down, and place them as the draw pile (山札) within reach of all players.
  3. Deal one card from the draw pile to each player as their hand (手札).
  4. Take one card from the draw pile and place it face down next to the draw pile as the Ruins (遺跡).
    • Nobody may look at the draw pile or the Ruins. Only the owner may look at their hand. Players should keep their hands hidden from the others.
    • Discards are placed face up, so anyone can see them. Each player has their own discard area (捨て札置き場).
    • When a card effect places a card into the Ruins, place it face down beside the existing Ruins card(s), arranged in a row.
  5. The player holding the most valuable legacy (遺産) takes the first turn. Alternatively, decide the first player by rock-paper-scissors (じゃんけん).
  6. Begin the game.

Game Flow

The game has two phases: the Main Phase and the Search Phase.

  • In the Main Phase, players take turns in clockwise order. Each turn is a sequence of steps, and the turns repeat until the draw pile runs out.
  • Finally, the Search Phase is played to look for the "Lost Legacy."

Main Phase (Turn Steps)

  1. Draw: Draw 1 card from the draw pile. Your hand now has 2 cards.
  2. Play: From your 2 hand cards, keep 1 card and place the other face up in front of you, in your discard area. Discarding a card counts as using it. The discarded card is called a "discard (捨て札)."
  3. Effect: Carry out the effect of the card you used. Carry out everything the card says as far as possible. It is not required to carry out everything written if it is not possible.
  4. End: The turn ends. Pass the turn to the player on your left.

At the End step, if there are no cards left in the draw pile, the Main Phase ends and the game proceeds to the Search Phase.

Elimination

  • A card effect may cause a player to be eliminated from the game (ゲームから脱落). An eliminated player can no longer take part in the game.
  • If the player whose turn it is becomes eliminated, that turn ends at that point, and the turn passes to the player on the left.
  • If all other players are eliminated and only one player remains, that player wins.

Search Phase

  1. Starting with the lowest search order (探索順), players take turns in ascending order. Each player in turn reveals their hand and performs a search.
  2. A player cannot search if either of the following applies:
    • Another player has the same search order.
    • The card in the player's hand has the search order "X."
  3. Searching: To search, choose one card, either from someone's hand or from the Ruins, and reveal it to all players.
    • If the revealed card is the "Lost Legacy," the searching player wins.
    • If it is not, the search misses, and the next player in search order searches.
    • If every player misses, the game is a draw (引き分け).
  4. A player whose hand contains the "Lost Legacy" wins automatically when their turn to search comes.

POINT: One player may call out "1, 2, 3..." in ascending order to check which search orders are in use. If no player claims a search order when it is called, that search order is treated as absent, and the calling continues with the next number.

Optional Rules

The game includes optional rules in addition to the standard way of playing. Adopting them lets you experience several different ways of playing.

Select Card System

The Select Card System combines the Base Set, the Advanced Set and the Expansion Set. Using this rule means each game is different. Follow these steps to decide the 16 cards to use:

  1. Choose the cards by search order: 1 to 5 use 1 card each, 6 uses 2 cards, and 7, 8 and x use 3 cards each.
  2. For each search order, choose which set's card to use. The manual gives this example: 1 Girl of Fate / 2 General / 3 Vampire Hunter / 4 Guardian / 5 Lost Legacy: Hanging Gardens / 6 Old Map / 7 Investigation / 8 Curse / x Ambush, and so on.
  3. Return the cards that were not selected to the box. They are not used in this game.

All Jam System (up to 6 players)

  • The All Jam System mixes the Base Set and the Advanced Set together. The Expansion Set may be included or left out.
  • Only one of the "5 Lost Legacy" cards may be used: choose one of the two.
  • The total number of cards is about double the normal number, so in addition to the normal 2–4 players, up to 6 players can play this way.

Play Advice

These tips are from the manual's advice section, headed by the character Vampire Onee-san (ヴァンパイアお姉さん).

Keep Your Hand Cards Secret

After drawing a card from the draw pile, it is a good idea to mix it in with the cards you already hold. Whether a card is the one you just drew or one you were already holding is very important information. Not letting other players learn this information is the shortest path to victory.

Remember the Cards

Card effects may pass cards from your hand to other players, place cards in the Ruins, or let players look at hand and Ruins cards. The "Lost Legacy" and other players' hands are affected by these changes, so keep track of which cards are where. Even if you find the Lost Legacy before the Search Phase, keep a poker face and do not give anything away.

Play Many Times

The playing time is listed as 10 minutes, but once you are used to the game, a round usually ends in about 5 minutes. Some players may be eliminated right at the start. Play repeatedly and compete to see who can win the most games. Each time you play, you can use the Select Card System and swap cards in and out to enjoy a different game every time.
