Goal of the Game

Pick and lay out tiles according to the conditions in your tasks faster than your opponents, and you will win!

Setup

Lay all the tiles in the centre of the table in random order (some tiles may lie on top of others), so that all players can reach any of them.

The game has 3 modes: BASIC, for equal players; UNIVERSAL, for players of different level or age; and SOLO mode, for one player. First learn the rules of the BASIC mode, then, if you wish, the differences of the UNIVERSAL and SOLO modes.

Basic Mode

Suitable for players of roughly the same level. Each player takes a level 1 task and places it in front of them, either side up. The goal is to collect cards of all 10 levels faster than the others.

Gameplay

When everyone is ready, the leader (the youngest participant) announces "START". The players turn over their cards, begin picking tiles from the centre of the table following their task, and laying them on their cards. The following rules must be observed:

  • Each player acts with one hand only. Take one tile and place it on your card. Only then may you take the next one.
  • Tiles are laid under the symbols on the task card, in the specially marked places.
  • A taken tile cannot be set aside into a personal reserve. If it does not fit, it can only be returned to the centre of the table.
  • Example: the purple moon can already be placed, but the blue sun is too early, because there is an empty place to the left of it.

On each tile is one of three symbols: sun, moon or lightning. They are coloured one of five colours: red, yellow, green, blue, purple. Under each symbol is a number from 00 to 99.

All tiles are double-sided. The symbol images on both sides match (except for a few bonus tiles), the numbers always differ by 50, and the colour is always different.

Important! Do not forget to flip the tiles over to find the one you need faster.

Deciphering the Tasks

If the task shows:

  • a white (uncoloured) symbol: you may lay the indicated symbol in any colour.
  • a coloured square: you must lay any symbol of the colour of the square.
  • a coloured symbol: you must find exactly that symbol in the corresponding colour.
  • a number: you must lay a tile with that particular number, regardless of the symbol and its colour. Pay attention: the first or the last digit of the number is indicated in the task, so that you pick a tile with a suitable number and do not make a mistake.
  • a "greater than" (>) or "less than" (<) sign between symbols and/or numbers: the tiles to the left and right of the sign must be laid in a particular way. The sign ">" means the tile on the left must have a greater number than the tile on the right. The sign "<", conversely, sets the condition that the tile on the left must have a smaller number than the tile on the right.

Do not forget at the same time to pick the correct symbols and colours according to your task.

Bonus Tiles

9 tiles in the game are bonus tiles; they have one or both sides special. They show either all the symbols of one colour at once, or one symbol coloured in all five colours, and one tile shows all symbols in all colours. They allow you to lay any shape of the required colour, or a particular shape of any colour.

End of the Round

As soon as one of the players has laid all 7 tiles in accordance with the task, they shout "stop game". The others must stop laying tiles, and then check whether the player completed their task correctly.

  • If the player made a mistake, they take a new card of the same level. The other players keep their current tasks. All tiles are discarded to the centre of the table and shuffled. The round begins anew.
  • If the player completed the task correctly, they return their card to the box and take a new one of the next level. The other players stay at the same level. If this card has already been solved on its reverse side, return it to the box and take a new one. All tiles are discarded to the centre of the table and shuffled. A new round begins.

Important! In front of a player there is always only 1 task card.

Round after round goes by like this, and winning players advance through the levels from simple to difficult. For losing players the task level remains the same, which means it will be easier for them to win in the next round.

End of the Game

The game ends as soon as one of the players is the first to complete the task of level 10. They are declared the winner of NeuroRace.

Important! If small children are playing, you can limit the game to 5 levels or any number comfortable for the children.

Universal Mode

Suitable for players of different ages or experience in the game. The goal is to complete more task cards than the others.

Gameplay

Play by the rules of the BASIC mode with the following changes:

  • Older or more experienced players start with tasks of a level higher than 1, for example 3 or 5, while children or beginners start with level 1. This way each player completes a task within their ability, and the older players do not have to let the younger ones win.
  • The winner of each round does not return their task card to the box but keeps it beside them. The cards serve as victory points in this mode.
  • The winner takes a task of the next level. If the difference between players is large, younger players, when they win, may stay at the same level and complete tasks on it. Find the ideal balance that suits your group, so that all players find the game interesting.

(Example of play in Universal mode: the youngest player and the oldest player sit at different levels, e.g. levels 3, 5, 7 and 9 shown on the cards.)

End of the Game

  • The game ends in the same way as in BASIC mode, when one of the players is the first to complete a level 10 task. After that all players must count how many cards they managed to collect, i.e. how many times during the game they completed their tasks faster than the others. The player with more cards is declared the winner. In case of a tie, the younger player wins.
  • You can end the game earlier, without reaching level 10, and count the collected cards of each player.

Solo Mode

A mode for one player.

Gameplay

For solo mode you will need a stopwatch.

Each round, time 20 seconds for completing the task. Start with a level 1 card. If you manage to complete the task in 20 seconds or faster, move on to the next level. If not, take a new card and try again.

If you wish, you can increase the time for completing the task. And for thrill-seekers the time can be shortened.

Completed all levels without a single loss? You are declared a Master of NeuroRace!
