Duct-taped weapons stay separate items, fired and broken independently. Use the tape beforehand to free a Hand: it is not reactive, so it cannot interrupt gaining a third Heavy Item. A single-use item taped to another is discarded alone when used. Exactly how the card's parenthetical wording works is disputed.
