Before the First Game

Put the pieces together as follows:

  1. Put the 2 fire silhouettes together and place them into the slots on the black wooden disc. If necessary adhere with glue.
  2. Use an adhesive sticker to adhere the black wooden disc exactly as shown onto the cardboard disc.
  3. Press the ring of light into the centre of the gameboard so that its edge doesn't stick out.
  4. Use the adhesive stickers to adhere the symbol discs to the red cauldrons.

What's the Game All About?

"Magicians' Night" is played in the dark because some pieces glow in the dark.

Each player tries using his magician to push one of his own cauldrons into the ring of light. At the beginning of the game the ring of light is hidden under the fire. All pieces on the gameboard can be moved!

Setting Up the Game in the Light

Place the gameboard face up on the table. Set up as follows:

  • Place the fire disc exactly in the centre of the gameboard thereby covering the ring of light.
  • Place the cauldrons around the fire disc onto their corresponding symbols.
  • Place the trees into the gaps around the cauldrons.
  • Arrange the wooden discs in 3 circles around the board (small / big / small).

Each player chooses one magician and puts it on the table in front of himself.

Each magician has three cauldrons with the same symbols as on his hat.

Before playing, all glow in the dark pieces have to be charged. To do this, hold the gameboard 15–20 seconds as close as possible under a bright light. Don't forget the ring of light under the fire!

Put the gameboard back on the table and…

…Lights Out! (Stop! Finish Reading First…)

Playing the Game in the Dark

Players take turns. The magicians can move all the pieces on the board in all directions.

You can start pushing your magician carefully onto the board from any point around the edge. Therefore begin by gently finding the edge.

Then, using your magician, try to push one of your cauldrons towards the ring of light. During one turn your magician has to be always in contact with the board.

Very Important! It is not allowed to touch pieces on or off the board when it is not your turn.

"Clack!" – It's the Next Player's Turn

You can always finish your turn by leaving your magician where it is.

As soon as you hear something fall off the board – "CLACK!" – you have to stop pushing immediately.

At the end of your turn leave your magician where it is. It's the next player's turn.

It can happen that the magician is not yet standing on the board when something falls off. In this case, take it back and wait for your next turn.

If your magician is already on the board, then the next time it is your turn, you have to decide before you move:

Either to push it from where it is, or to lift it from the board and push it from any point at the edge of the board again (see illustration above).

Once you have started pushing your magician, it is not allowed to lift it during that turn.

  • Leave all pieces that have fallen off the board where they are.

Exception

  • If your magician falls off the board wait for your next turn and start again.
  • Should all 3 of your cauldrons fall off the board (very seldom!), you are out of the game. However, your magician stays on the board.

End of the Game

The game is over as soon as one cauldron lands in the ring of light where it sinks a bit lower and can no longer be moved.

Is it your cauldron? Then you've won the magic contest!

Lights On!

Now you can see what magic power can do!

Playing the Game in the Light

It is also fun to play the game in the light. Everyone can see what's being moved. While in the dark the game is a magical power struggle, in the light it becomes an exciting tactical game. The rules remain the same.

For 2 or 3 Players

The starting grid is the same. If a cauldron that does not belong to anybody is pushed into the ring of light, you remove it from the field — and it is the next player's turn.
