1. About the Game

Using a variety of shapes, one player creates a face that matches the theme written on their card while the other players try to correctly guess the facial expression.

Both the player that created the face and the player that correctly guessed the expression receive points. The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.

2. Set-up

  • Shuffle the theme cards well and deal 5 cards facedown to each player. These cards will be used in step 4: Which One Matches? Check the cards in your hand. Place the leftover deck of cards on the table in a pile.
  • Each player takes one arrow marker.
  • Choose the first Face Maker and place the face board in front of them. The other players will be guessers.

3. Making a Face

  • The Face Maker draws a card from the deck and checks the theme written on it. This card is the "correct" card for this round.
  • The Face Maker then uses the various face parts and the face board (either the front or back) to try and make a face that matches the theme on the "correct" card. Making letters or using the face parts outside of the face board is not allowed.
  • Starting with the player to the left of the Face Maker, the guessers count from 1 to 100 moving clockwise. The first guesser says "1", the second says "2", the third says "3" and so on. If the count reaches 100, the Face Maker must stop immediately. If the Face Maker finishes before the guessers reach 100, they stop counting.

4. Which One Matches?

  • The guessers choose one card from their hand that they think matches the face. (Choose a card that will make the other players wrong.) This card is placed face down and given to the Face Maker.
  • The Face Maker collects the cards chosen by the guessers along with the "correct" card. The Face Maker must have a total of 6 cards in their hand. (If only 3 players, draw 3 additional cards. If 6 players, draw no cards.) Now, shuffle the cards and place them face up around the face.
  • Going clockwise starting with the guesser to the left of the Face Maker, they place their arrow marker on the card they think the Face Maker played.

5. Distributing Points

  • Earn points according to the chart below.
RolePoints
Face Maker1 point for each player that guessed correctly.
Guesser1 point for guessing correctly.
  • For each point you earned, draw one card from the deck and place it face up in front of you, being careful not to mix them with the cards in your hand. If you collect 5 cards, they may be exchanged for a 5-point score counter. Place the cards that were exchanged for a score counter in the discard pile.
  • Discard the 6 cards lined up around the face.
  • If all the cards in the deck are gone, shuffle the discard pile well and make a new deck.
  • After the points have been distributed, make sure each player has five cards in their hand and the game continues with the next player going clockwise from the previous Face Maker. Please remember how many people guessed correctly during your turn as the Face Maker. This number will be needed in the event of a tie at the end of the game.

(Illustration example: the Face Maker scores for 2 players right, i.e. draws 2 cards; each guesser who was right draws 1 card; the guesser who was wrong draws none. 1 card = 1 point; a 5-point score counter = 5 points.)

6. Ending the Game

  • The game ends after all players have made one face each.
  • The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner. If players are tied, the player that had more people guess correctly during their turn as the Face Maker is the winner. If players are still tied, the game ends in a draw.

Playing with Cameras

  • These rules are for playing with selfies.
  • Within a set time limit, the Face Maker draws a card from the deck, and using a smart phone or other camera, takes a selfie that matches the theme on the card they drew. Next, they make sure everyone can see the picture clearly. While taking the picture, make sure to face away from the other players. Aside from this, please follow the normal game rules.
  • It's also fun to take the selfie using other types of photo apps, such as those with comic filters, etc...
