- 51 cards, of which:
- 50 order cards, each showing a customer and a pizza with 1 to 3 different ingredients (45 cards in 6 different customer colours + 5 "joker" orders). On some pizzas, garlic or chili is additionally shown; these count for the final scoring.
- 1 pizzeria card
- 8 dice with 6 ingredients each: mushrooms, corn, olives, arugula, tomato, mozzarella
- 8 penalty chips
- 6 delivery-person tokens in different colours (showing the values 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10)
- 1 rulebook
Object of the Game
The goal is to fulfil as many orders as possible with cleverly placed dice, to secure delivery-person tokens, and so to end up with the most points.
Setup
- Before the first game, carefully punch the delivery-person tokens and penalty chips out of the punchboards.
- Place the pizzeria card in the middle of the table.
- Shuffle the 50 order cards well. Remove 10 cards and place them face down under the pizzeria card. Place the remaining order cards as a face-down draw pile next to the pizzeria card.
- Draw 8 order cards from the pile and lay them face up around the pizzeria card.
- Also place the delivery-person tokens and the penalty chips within reach.
- Determine a starting player. That player receives the 8 ingredient dice.
Course of Play
The starting player begins. Play then proceeds clockwise. When it is your turn, carry out the following actions of the turn in order:
- Roll dice and place ingredients
- Collect fulfilled order cards and penalty chips
- Assign delivery-person tokens
- Replenish the display
1) Roll dice and place ingredients
When it is your turn, first check whether you received any penalty chips in the previous round. For each penalty chip you have collected, you must give up 1 die. Example: If you have collected 2 penalty chips, you may only play with 6 dice. The penalty chips then go back to the supply. In the first round you start with all 8 dice. You roll and then place at least 1 rolled ingredient on any pizza of a displayed order card that shows this ingredient. Then you decide whether you...
... place further dice: You may immediately place further dice, but only on the same order card, until it is completely filled. After all the ingredients required by an order on the card have been placed, you may also place further matching ingredients on the two directly adjacent order cards.
... roll the remaining dice once more: You may re-roll as often as you wish, but after every roll you must be able to place at least 1 ingredient on a started or new order card (according to the rules above). If you cannot place any ingredient after rolling, your turn is immediately over!
... pass: You may decide at any time to stop rolling and so pass voluntarily, to end your turn.
Note: You may carry out each of these options as often as you like, until you have passed or must end your turn.
2) Collect fulfilled order cards and penalty chips
After you have ended your turn, you take all fulfilled order cards and lay them, sorted by customer colour, face up in front of you. For each unfulfilled order card you receive a penalty chip (max. 2). These cards remain lying in the middle of the table.
3) Assign delivery-person tokens
If you have the most order cards of one customer colour in front of you, you may take the corresponding delivery-person token and place it with those order cards. Note: The number on the delivery-person token indicates not only the extra points for the players at the end, but also how many order cards of this customer colour are in the game! But be careful: As soon as another player has been able to collect more order cards of this customer colour, you must give the delivery-person token to that player. If you own exactly as many order cards of a customer colour as another player, the delivery-person token goes back to the middle of the table.
4) Replenish the display
Pass the dice on to the next player in clockwise order. Refill the order cards around the pizzeria card from the draw pile back up to 8 cards. The next player now begins again with action 1).
Joker orders
These order cards are fulfilled by placing ONE ingredient of your choice 3 times on the pizza of the card. When you have completely fulfilled a joker order, you may add it to any customer colour in your display. If the joker order is your first "customer", simply keep it for a later point in time and then add it to your first collected "colour customer".
Example Round
Anita rolls all 8 dice and places olives & mushrooms on an order card, which is thereby fulfilled. Then she decides to roll again with the remaining 6 dice and places 2x mozzarella on the directly adjacent joker order. She wants to roll once more with the remaining 4 dice and places the third mozzarella on the joker order (which is now fulfilled), as well as tomatoes & mushrooms on a further, directly adjacent order card. She then ends her turn by passing voluntarily, takes the three fulfilled order cards and lays them out in front of her. Since she now has the majority of a customer colour (black), she takes the corresponding delivery-person token and places it with her order cards. She passes the dice to Martin, the next player clockwise, and refills the order cards around the pizzeria card from the draw pile back up to 8 cards.
Now it is Martin's turn. He rolls all 8 dice and first places olives & mozzarella on an order card. Then he places further ingredients on directly adjacent order cards – on the left olives & arugula, on the right arugula. To fulfil the order cards, Martin would still need 1x corn each. Now he rolls with the remaining 3 dice, but none of the dice shows the needed corn. His turn is immediately over and he may only take the one fulfilled order card. The two unfulfilled order cards remain lying there – instead Martin receives 2 penalty chips, which he places in front of him.
Game End and Scoring
As soon as the displayed order cards can no longer be refilled to 8, the display is from then on refilled from the cards under the pizzeria card. You now play only as many turns as are needed until every player has had the same number of turns. Then the scoring takes place. Each player receives:
- 1 point per ingredient on the collected order cards
- The extra points of the delivery-person tokens
- Bonus points for:
| Garlic | Chili |
|---|---|
| 1 card = 1 point | 1 card = 1 point |
| 2 cards = 3 points | 2 cards = 3 points |
| 3 cards = 6 points | 3 cards = 6 points |
| 4 cards = 10 points | 4 cards = 10 points |
| 5 cards = 15 points | 5 cards = 15 points |
(The garlic and chili bonuses are added together.)
The player with the highest total score is the best pizza deliverer and thus the winner of the game!
Solo Game
You can also play Mozzaroller alone against Angelo, the boss of the pizzeria. The course of play works as described above, but with the following adjustments:
- Exactly 8 rounds are played.
- Each round, only 6 order cards are laid out around the pizzeria card.
- Your turn takes place as usual. Here too you try to fulfil as many orders as possible. The same rules apply as in the basic game.
- As soon as your turn is over, it is Angelo's turn: He receives all order cards left over in the round. The order cards are laid out sorted by customer colour and the delivery-person tokens are distributed. Angelo always adds joker cards to the customer type with the highest point value of the respective colour.
- In the eighth round, all 8 remaining order cards are laid out around the pizzeria card.
- You win the solo game if, after the eighth round, you have collected more points than Angelo. The same scoring system applies as in the basic game.
Note: You can make the solo game even more challenging by removing 2 randomly drawn order cards and laying out 8 order cards around the pizzeria card in each round. The game then ends after 6 rounds.
