Setup
- Each player chooses a Mortadelo and places it face up in front of them.
- Each player takes a deck of 12 Mamporros Básicos (the cards are marked by colour so they can be told apart).
- Each player shuffles their Mamporros Básicos deck and draws 5 cards. This is the starting hand.
- Leave a space to the right for your discard pile.
- In the centre of the table, place the Mamporros Plus deck. Shuffle it and reveal the first 4 cards face up.
Each player should have room for their deck, discard pile, hand and wounds (wounds are placed under their character card).
How to Play
Play proceeds in turns, clockwise. Each turn has 3 phases, in this order:
- Choose Opponent
- Mamporros! (The Duel)
- End of Turn
1. Choose Opponent
Choose whom you challenge. Point to another Mortadelo and get ready to give them a good interdimensional slap.
2. Mamporros! (The Duel)
Both players:
- Choose one card from their hand.
- Place it face down.
- Reveal both cards at the same time.
Each card can be an Attack (Punch or Kick) or a Defence (also Punch or Kick). The icon in the top-left corner shows the card's type.
3. End of Turn (After the Duel)
- Draw cards until you have 5 in your hand. If your deck runs out, shuffle your discard pile to form a new deck.
- Play now passes to the player on your left.
Resolving Duels
When both players reveal their card, follow two steps.
Step 1: What Type of Card Is It?
Look at the symbol in the top-left corner of each card.
- If you played an attack and your opponent did NOT play the correct defence, your attack succeeds.
- If you played a defence, it succeeds only if it exactly matches the opponent's attack type (Punch defence against Punch, Kick defence against Kick).
- If both players play attacks, both attacks succeed.
The manual shows these matchups:
- Defences succeed: a Punch attack against a Punch defence, or a Kick attack against a Kick defence. The defence is the successful card.
- Attacks succeed: a Punch attack against a Kick defence, or a Kick attack against a Punch defence. The attack is the successful card.
- Neither succeeds: a Punch defence against a Kick defence.
- Both attacks succeed: a Punch attack against a Kick attack, a Punch attack against a Punch attack, or a Kick attack against a Kick attack.
Step 2: Which Effect Activates?
Only the effects printed at the bottom of a card activate, and only if that card's attack or defence succeeded.
Only the effect of a card that succeeded is activated.
The manual gives these examples:
- Defence succeeds: the player who played the defence applies their card's effect ([Play Another Card]).
- Both attacks succeed: both players apply their card's effects ([Mamporro and Play Another Card]).
The effects are listed under "Card Effects" at the end of this rulebook.
When You Receive a Tortazo
Each time someone receives a Tortazo (star icon), they gain 1 Wound.
- Place a card from your own deck face down under your character card.
- When you have 6 or more Wounds, you are eliminated immediately.
Whoever eliminates another Mortadelo takes a Mamporro Plus card and adds it to their hand.
Mamporros Plus
Mamporros Plus are special, more powerful cards.
- There must always be 4 face-up cards in the centre of the table. When one is taken, it is replaced immediately.
- You get Mamporros Plus in two ways: with the Upgrade Card effect, or by eliminating another player.
Simultaneous Effects
Card effects are resolved at the same time. If the order matters, apply this rule: whoever has the turn acts first.
- Example: if both players must apply an Upgrade Card effect, the player whose turn it is goes first.
- If you are eliminated but still have to apply an effect (Play Another Card or Upgrade Card), elimination is immediate, so you apply only the effects that do not concern the next turn.
Eliminated Players
Eliminated players are not entirely out of the game. Even out of combat, you can keep meddling from the cloning machine.
- When any player activates the special effect of their Mortadelo, every eliminated player also activates it.
- However, you can only affect players who are taking part in the duel.
- To do this, choose a player who is in the middle of a duel and apply your Mortadelo's special effect to that player.
So even when eliminated, you can keep taking part... and causing trouble!
How the Game Ends
The game ends when only one player remains in play. Whoever survives to the end is the winning Mortadelo and saviour of the multiverse.
Double KO
Both players may be eliminated at the same time during a duel. What happens then?
- 2 players: it is a tie and nobody wins. "Time to throw in another one, this can't be left like this."
- 3 or more players: if the last two active players eliminate each other, the player who was eliminated before them wins.
- In the rare case that the last elimination was also a Double KO, the multiverse collapses!
Card Effects
The effects below are printed at the bottom of cards. Only the effects of cards that succeeded in the duel activate.
Tortazo
Your opponent receives a Wound (skull icon) for each star symbol shown. For each Wound received, place a card from their deck face down under their Mortadelo card.
The manual shows the single star and the cluster of stars together under ¡TORTAZO!; the text counts the star symbol.
Upgrade Cards
Take a Mamporro Plus card from those available and put it in your hand. Immediately refill the space so that there are always 4 available.
Play Another Card, Combo!
Play another card from your hand and apply its effect without your opponent being able to react. For this new card, do not consider whether it is an Attack or a Defence; only its effect counts.
If both opponents activate this effect, start a new duel.
Recover Wounds
Return one of your Wound cards to your discard pile (face up).
Special Mamporro
Every Mortadelo has a secret blow (at the bottom of your Mortadelo card) that activates with this symbol.
Total Defence
Defends against any attack, whether a Punch or a Kick.
