Components
- 1 wooden toucan figure (this is Sebastian)
- 1 wooden hunter figure
- 1 game board
- 10 shelter tokens (each with egg slots on one side and a back side showing a number of stones; some shelters have a multicolour slot)
- 28 egg tokens: 7 each in blue, purple, red and yellow. Each egg has two sides: whole and broken.
Goal of the Game
Move all of the eggs into the shelters before the hunter reaches the nest.
Setup
Before setting up, take all components out of the box and carefully push out the egg, bush and shelter tokens.
- Place the box in the centre of the table.
- Position the board so that the waterfall picture on the side of the box lines up with the waterfall on the board.
- Place the toucan figure Sebastian on the top of the waterfall.
- Sort the egg tokens by colour and place them in 4 stacks in the nest on the game board.
- Lay out the 10 shelter tokens in a semicircle, egg-slot side up, at the foot of the waterfall, leaving enough room for Sebastian to land.
- Place the hunter figure at the start of the path on the game board (on the flower meadow next to the purple starfish).
The first player is the player who last saw a tropical bird. Play then passes clockwise.
How to Play
On your turn:
- Place the toucan figure on the large stone at the waterfall on the game board.
- Choose 1 egg token from the nest and place it either on Sebastian's head or on one of his wings. Always place the egg token whole side up.
- Push the toucan down the waterfall and enjoy his graceful slide!
- Once the toucan figure stops, check which side the egg token landed on: whole or broken.
Egg landed whole side up: Hooray! Place this token in any free slot of the matching colour on any shelter. Egg tokens may not be placed in slots of other colours. Some shelters have multicolour slots, and eggs of any colour may be placed there.
Egg landed broken side up: Oh no, the egg broke! Set the token aside. You will not use it again for the rest of the game. Move the hunter figure forward to the next stone of the same colour as the broken egg. The last stone on the hunter's path is multicolour: any broken egg moves the hunter onto that stone.
Shelters
As soon as all the slots of a shelter token are filled, turn that token over to its side without slots and move the hunter back by the number of stones shown on it. Then pass the turn to the next player clockwise.
The back side of a shelter token shows one of three values:
- Move the hunter back 1 stone.
- Move the hunter back 2 stones.
- Move the hunter back 3 stones.
End of Game
The game ends in either of two cases:
- If the hunter lands on the multicolour stone while eggs are still left in the nest, the game is lost. Uh-oh! Sebastian did not manage to save enough eggs from the nest. The players lose.
- If there are no eggs left in the nest and the hunter has not reached the multicolour stone, the players win. Congratulations!
Variant: "Big Rush"
The game follows the normal rules, except that instead of placing only 1 egg token on the toucan, place 2 (you may arrange them on the figure however you like). After Sebastian's slide, check both eggs:
- Both eggs whole: great! Quickly place the tokens into shelters under the normal rules. You may hide them both in one shelter or in two shelters, observing the colour rule for slots.
- One egg whole and one egg broken: it could have been worse! Move the hunter forward to the next stone of the colour of the broken egg, and hide the whole egg in one of the shelters. You may choose the order in which these two actions are performed.
- Both eggs broken: oh no! The hunter must now be moved forward twice. If the egg tokens were of the same colour, first move the hunter to the next stone of that colour, then to the next stone of the same colour after it. If the eggs were of different colours, you may choose the order of the colours yourself.
