Goal of the Game
Be the player with the most Stars at the end of the game. The Stars are found on the Collector Trophies. To earn a Trophy, you have to befriend more of that Mooki Family than your opponent by the end of the game. But be careful or the Spider may sneak away with one of your precious Trophies!
Components and Setup
- Mookies (cards)
- Legendary Mookies (cards)
- Spiders (cards)
- Mooki Collector Trophies
- Mooki Island poster
Shuffle together all 36 double-sided Mooki cards (showing 60 Mookies – 12 from each Family, 7 Spiders, and 5 shiny Legendary Mookies – 1 from each Family).
Place them in 2 more or less equal draw piles in the centre of the table.
Place the 5 Mooki Collector Trophies into the Trophy Stand (the bottom of the game box). (Sun, Moon, Fossil, Seashell, Leaf).
Keep your Mooki Island Poster nearby. You'll need it after your game!
Gameplay
The youngest player starts and players take turns playing.
On your turn, draw 1 card from the top of 1 of the 2 piles. After looking at both sides of the card, choose one side and do the following:
- If you chose a Mooki, place the card on the table in front of you. That's your Mooki Collection. Add each new card on top of the previous one to make a single pile, with only the last-placed card visible on top.
- If you chose a Spider, place it on top of your opponent's Mooki Collection pile.
Players alternate turns, adding Mookies to their Collection and Spiders to their opponent's collection.
The Mooki Collection Pile
Your Mooki Collection pile must stay on the table at all times. You are not allowed to pick up your cards, shuffle, sort, or look through them.
Example: Victoria is playing against her Dad, Robin. She is younger (obviously!), so she starts.
She takes the Fossil Mooki. She looks at the other side of the card and finds a legendary Leaf Mooki! She chooses the legendary Mooki (instead of the Fossil Mooki) and places it in front of her.
Then Robin takes the Spider that was revealed when Victoria took her card. He looks at both sides of the card, but decides to place the Spider on top of Victoria's Collection pile.
It's now Victoria's turn again… and the game goes on.
End of the Game
The game ends when the last card in 1 of the 2 draw piles is taken and placed in a Mookie Collection and the turn ends. Now follow these steps:
-
Each player sorts the Mookies they befriended (in their Collection pile) into their Families. Spiders are collected in their own pile.
Careful! Keep all your cards on the same side. No flipping cards!
-
See who has the most cards in each Mooki Family (Legendary Mookies count for 2 Mookies!) and give that player the Trophy of that Mooki type. In the event of a draw, the Trophy is not awarded to anyone.
-
The player with the most Spiders puts one (and only one!) of their Trophies (of their choice) back in the box. The Spider has scurried off with this Trophy, and no one can have it! If players have the same number of Spiders, no one loses a Trophy.
-
Each player counts the Stars on their remaining Trophies. The player with the most Stars wins! In the event of a draw, the youngest player wins!
Legendary Mookies
In addition to being brilliant and majestic, Legendary Mookies count for 2 Mookies at the end of the game!
Example: Victoria and Robin sort all their Mookies into their respective Families. They count their cards to see who wins the Trophies:
Victoria has 1 Sun Mooki, 1 Moon Mooki, 4 Fossil Mookies, 6 Leaf Mookies, 1 Seashell Mooki, and 1 Spider.
Robin has 0 Sun Mookies, 3 Moon Mookies, 4 Fossil Mookies, 5 Leaf Mookies, 3 Seashell Mookies, and 2 Spiders.
Comparing each Family: Victoria has more Sun Mookies, so she wins the Sun Trophy. Robin has more Moon Mookies, so he wins the Moon Trophy. Victoria and Robin are tied on Fossil Mookies, so no one wins the Fossil Trophy. Victoria has more Leaf Mookies, so she wins the Leaf Trophy. Robin has more Seashell Mookies, so he wins the Seashell Trophy.
Now they look to see who has more Spiders. Robin has 2, and Victoria has 1. The Spider steals one of Robin's Trophies! He chooses to discard the Seashell Trophy.
The Final score is 6 (Sun Trophy + Leaf Trophy) to 4 (Moon Trophy). Victoria wins!
