New Features

Enjoy Monopoly as you like it, with 3 innovations added to spice up your games!

1. Music and Sound Effects

Celebrate the end of the month and collect your salary to music when you pass the GO space. Enter the Transport Zone you land in to music, and many other animations too!

2. Transport Zones

The board is divided into 4 zones: pedestrian, cyclist, car and space. The GO, Free Parking, Go to Jail and Jail spaces are not located in these Transport Zones.

When you land on a space located in a Transport Zone, you must make a choice:

  • either you have an electronic Chance card drawn for all the players present in the Transport Zone of your choice,
  • or you move your pawn to the nearest property that belongs to no one, so that it is auctioned. Will this decision help you or penalise you? You will soon find out!

If all the properties on the board already have an owner, you may Force a Deal by exchanging one of your properties for one of another player's (see the Force a Deal chapter)!

3. The Board

The board is the same as the classic board, except that it is round: you must therefore always move your pawn clockwise.

This version includes 4 Public Utility Companies instead of 2: that makes twice as many rents!

Rules guide: pages 4 to 7 give you the basics; pages 8 to 15 give more detail.

Setup

One of the players is elected banker. The banker takes care of:

  • the property cards,
  • auctions,
  • houses and hotels.

Follow the instructions below, in order, to set up the game.

  1. Place the game board on a flat surface.
  2. Insert the batteries into the electronic game unit (see the last page) and place it in the centre of the board.
  3. Take the pawns and the dice out of the plastic bag. Each player chooses a pawn and places it on the GO space.
  4. Finally, take the credit cards out of the plastic bag and give one to each player. Each player starts with a balance of M15M.
  5. Also place the houses and hotels in the storage compartments of the box.
  6. Regroup the property cards by colour and place each group in the storage compartments of the box.

You are now ready to play Monopoly Révolution!

Playing Monopoly

Players each roll both dice. The player with the highest score begins, and play continues clockwise.

Your Turn

  1. Roll the dice.
  2. Move your pawn forward by the total shown on the dice.
  3. Where did you stop? (see below)
  4. Did you roll a double? Then repeat steps 1, 2 and 3.
  5. Do you want to build? See the Buildings section (page 11).
  6. It is the next player's turn to roll the dice.

You Stopped On:

  • An unowned property: buy it, or put it up for auction.
  • Another player's property: pay the rent.
  • One of your own properties: nothing happens.
  • An income tax or tax space: pay the indicated amount to the bank.
  • Free Parking: you have nothing to do. At least you do not pay rent this turn!
  • A space located in a Transport Zone: draw the Chance card, or put to auction a property that belongs to no one.
  • Go To Jail: go directly to Jail. Do not collect your salary if you pass GO.

If you have drawn the Chance symbol, follow the instructions shown on the electronic unit's screen!

Keep playing. The last player still in the game is declared the winner.

The Electronic Game Unit

Press any button to turn on the unit. Hold the C button down to reset the counters to zero.

GO

When you pass the GO space, the banker inserts your credit card into the green slot of the electronic unit and presses this button to credit your account with M2M. You do not need to type the figure on the unit.

Transport Zone

When you stop on a space located in one of the 4 Transport Zones, you may:

  • Choose one of the 4 zones to have a Chance card drawn for each of the players located in that zone (you may choose the zone where your own pawn is located). Each concerned player, in turn, presses the Transport Zone button. When the symbol corresponding to the chosen zone appears on screen, he presses it once more. The music of the concerned zone sounds, and the text of the Chance card scrolls across the unit's screen.

OR

  • Move your pawn to the nearest property that belongs to no one, and put it up for auction (see page 12). If all properties already have an owner, you may force a deal (see page 13)!

M and K

To pay or receive money, enter the amount of the transaction on the electronic unit. You do not need to type the full figure: press M for million or K for thousand. For example, for M10,000 you must type 10 and then K.

Adding a Comma / Adjusting the Sound

To adjust the sound, remove the cards and hold the comma "." button pressed until the desired volume is reached. To keep only the beeps (and so remove the music and sound effects), hold this button down until the lowest sound level is reached.

C (Cancel)

If you make a mistake when entering an amount, use the C key to erase it. To start a new game by resetting the counters to zero, hold the C button down.

Using the Electronic Unit

Receiving Money from the Bank

To receive money from the bank:

  1. Insert your credit card into the green slot.
  2. Type the amount to be received. For example, if the bank owes you M260K, press 2, 6, 0, K.
  3. Wait for your balance to increase on screen. Remove your credit card.

Paying the Bank

To pay a debt to the bank:

  1. Insert your credit card into the red slot.
  2. Type the amount to pay to the bank. For example, if you owe M1.5M, press 1, ., 5, M.
  3. Wait for your balance to decrease on screen. Remove your credit card.

Paying Another Player

To pay your debt to another player:

  1. Insert your credit card into the red slot, and the other player's credit card into the green slot.
  2. Type the amount to be paid to the other player. Your balance decreases.
  3. Wait for the other player's balance to increase on screen. Remove the 2 cards.

Auctions

To put a property up for auction, the banker must:

  1. Press the Deal button to start the timer.
  2. The beeps indicate when time is running out!

If you conclude the deal before the time has run out, press the Deal button again to stop the timer.

Chance

The text of Chance cards is revealed to you by the electronic unit during the game:

  • when a player stops on a space in a Transport Zone and chooses the Chance option;
  • OR at random. In this case, the sound animation of the Chance card sounds and the Chance symbol appears. The text of the Chance card applies to the player who has just removed his credit card from the electronic unit.

If a Chance card appears during the movement of your pawn or in the middle of a transaction, stop everything and follow the instructions shown on the screen! If the text disappears before you have had time to read it: too bad!

If a Chance card sends more than one player to a property that belongs to no one, you must put it up for auction.

Buying Properties

There are 3 types of property:

  • Streets (Terrains)
  • Railroads (Gares)
  • Public Utility Companies (Compagnies de Service Public)

If you stop on a property that belongs to no one, you may buy it:

  1. Pay the price indicated on the board space to the banker (see page 9).
  2. In exchange, the banker gives you the corresponding property card as proof of the purchase. Keep it face up in front of you.

If you decide not to buy it, the banker opens an auction (see the Auctions chapter, page 12).

Owning a property entitles you to collect rent from all players who stop on your properties. When you own all the properties of the same colour, in other words once you have a monopoly, you may build on these properties and so collect higher rents!

Deals and Property Sales

You may decide to sell a property without buildings, a Railroad or a Public Utility Company to another player, either on your turn or between the turns of other players.

If you want to sell a property:

  1. You must already have sold back to the bank all the buildings, if any, located on this property (see the facing page). You may not sell a property as long as you have not sold all the buildings on the properties of the same colour group.
  2. Agree on the sale price with the other player and receive the money on your credit card (see page 9).
  3. Once paid, hand the property card to the other player.

Buildings

Buying a House

You must own all the streets of the same colour group in order to buy houses. The price of a house is indicated on the property card.

Buying a Hotel

To buy a hotel, you must have four houses on each street of the same colour group. Exchange the four houses for a hotel, and pay the banker the price indicated on the property card. You may build only one hotel per property.

Some Construction Rules

  • You may buy houses and hotels on your turn or between the turns of other players.
  • You must build evenly. You may not build a second house on a street until you have built a house on every property of the same colour group.
  • You may buy as many buildings as your finances allow!
  • No building may be constructed if one of the properties of the colour group is mortgaged.

Selling Buildings

You may sell houses and hotels to the bank for half of their purchase price (indicated on the property card). You may sell on your turn or between the turns of other players.

Selling houses: houses must be sold evenly, in the same way they were bought.

Selling hotels: the banker credits your credit card with half the price of the hotel, increased by half the price of the four houses that were given up when the hotel was bought.

Hotels may also be exchanged with the bank for houses, in order to recover money. To do so, exchange your hotel for four houses; the banker credits your credit card with half the value of the hotel.

Housing Shortage

If there are no more buildings left to sell, you must wait for other players to return buildings to the bank before you can buy them.

If there are only a limited number of houses or hotels left and two or more players wish to buy them, they are sold at auction and awarded to the highest bidder. The auction starts at the lowest price indicated on the property card.

Auctions

If you decide not to buy a property on which you have just stopped, or on which you are sent after arriving in a Transport Zone, the banker must immediately open an auction. The auction starts compulsorily at a minimum of M10K.

Every player may take part in the auction, including the banker and the player who stopped on the property concerned by the auction, if he does not want to pay the price indicated.

Auction procedure:

  1. Start the auction timer by pressing the Deal button.
  2. Players who wish to do so make their price offers within the time allowed.
  3. When you hear the beeps, hurry up: the bids close at their end!
  4. The player who made the highest bid at the end of the time wins the auction, and pays the announced price to the banker for this property.

Public Utility Companies

There are 4 Public Utility Companies in Monopoly Révolution. They are bought and sold in the same way as streets.

If you stop on a Public Utility Company belonging to another player, that player may claim from you a rent that depends on the number of Public Utility Companies he owns. This amount is indicated on the corresponding property card.

Railroads

Railroads are bought and sold in the same way as streets.

If you stop on a Railroad belonging to another player, you must pay the amount indicated on the property card. This amount varies according to the number of Railroads owned by that player.

Forced Deals

When you stop on a space located in a Transport Zone and all the properties on the board already have an owner, you have the right to force a deal with another player. This replaces the first option, which is to put the nearest free property up for auction, and so proceed to a property exchange.

To do so, you must exchange a property that does not form part of a complete colour group. If you own only complete colour groups, you do not have access to this second option.

You must make this exchange with a property of another player that also does not form part of a complete colour group. You then choose the property that you want: it cannot be refused!

Paying Rent and Going Bankrupt

If you stop on a property that belongs to another player, that player may claim rent from you (unless this property is mortgaged). The owner must claim the rent before the next player rolls the dice. The amount of rent is indicated on the property card and varies according to the number of buildings on the property.

If all the streets of the same colour group belong to the same player, the rent is doubled for each property of this group that has no building yet. Moreover, even if one of the properties of the same colour group is mortgaged, you continue to receive the double rent for the other properties that are not mortgaged.

Lack of Money

If you no longer have money to pay your debts, you may:

  • sell buildings to the bank;
  • mortgage properties;
  • sell a property, a Railroad or a Public Utility Company to another player at a price agreed between you (even if this property is mortgaged).

Going Bankrupt

If you owe money to the bank or to another player and you are unable to pay, you are declared bankrupt and eliminated.

  • Debt to the bank: hand your property cards to the bank, which immediately puts them up for auction, individually.
  • Debt to another player: this player receives the balance of your credit card and your property cards.

Mortgages

Mortgaging a Property

  1. First sell the buildings on this property to the bank.
  2. Turn the property card face down.
  3. Receive from the banker the mortgage value indicated on the back of this card.

You may not collect rent on a mortgaged property, but you continue to collect rent on the properties of the same colour group. If you own all the properties of the same colour group, mortgaging one of them does not prevent you from collecting double rent on the other properties that are not mortgaged.

Receiving a Mortgaged Property as Payment from Another Player

If another player owes you money and goes bankrupt, he must give you all his properties. Mortgaged properties remain mortgaged until you decide to lift the mortgage.

Lifting a Mortgage

You may lift a mortgage by paying the value of the mortgage plus 10% interest (rounded up to 10,000 if necessary). Once the mortgage is lifted, you may turn the card face up in front of you.

Selling a Mortgaged Property

You may sell a mortgaged property to another player at a price agreed between you. The buyer may then either:

  • immediately lift the mortgage by paying the bank the value of the mortgage; or
  • keep the mortgage. In this case, he first pays the bank 10% interest (rounded up to 10,000 if necessary) on the value of the mortgage, and will pay the value of the mortgage itself later, during the game.

To collect rents, the player must lift the mortgage and turn the card of the property received face up.

Once the mortgage is lifted, the owner may again build houses and hotels at the normal price.

Prison

Going to Prison

You will be sent to Prison if:

  • you stop on a Go To Jail space;
  • a Chance card tells you to go to Prison;
  • you roll three doubles in a row on the dice.

Your turn stops as soon as you are sent to Prison. Move directly to the Prison space, and do not collect M2M when you pass the GO space on the way there.

While you are in Prison, you may continue to collect your rents, provided your properties are not mortgaged.

Getting Out of Prison

You will stay in Prison for a maximum of 3 turns. To get out, you must carry out one of the following 3 actions:

  1. Wait for your next turn and pay M500K before rolling the dice.
  2. Roll the dice and roll a double, on your turn.
  3. Receive a Chance card from the electronic unit telling you that you are released from Prison.

If you succeed in one of these 3 actions, move your pawn on the board according to your dice roll.

If you have not rolled a double after three turns, pay the banker M500K, then move your pawn according to your dice roll.

Simple Visit

If you are not sent to Prison but land on the Prison space, you are a simple visitor and suffer no penalty.

Free Parking

If you stop on this space, you may rest while waiting for your next turn, or continue your transactions normally (for example, collect rents, build buildings, and so on).

Passing GO Twice in a Row

It is possible to receive M2M twice in a row during the same turn. For example, if you receive a Chance card just after passing the GO space, and this card tells you to "Advance to the GO space".

Contents

1 game board, 1 electronic game unit, 6 MONOPOLY credit cards, 6 pawns, 30 property cards, 32 houses, 12 hotels and 2 dice.

Storage

  1. Place the 6 pawns in the storage compartments of the game box provided for this purpose, to prevent them from being damaged.
  2. Wait for the electronic unit to switch off automatically (the unit goes into standby mode after 90 seconds without use), and place it in the wide part of the game box.
  3. Place the remaining game components in the other compartments of the box.
