Gameboard, 6 Character tokens, 6 Group leader cards, 21 Character cards, 16 Objective cards, 9 Loot Box cards, 4 Reminder cards, 1 Numbered die, 1 Ability die, 90 Plastic HP chips (50 white and 40 blue).

What's Different About Monopoly Gamer Overwatch?

Health Points Replace Money

In MONOPOLY Gamer Overwatch, HP chips replace bills and coins, and throughout the game players will lose or gain health as they move around the board.

Highest Score Wins!

You win by earning the most points. You earn points by securing objectives and collecting Loot Boxes!

Lead a Team of Heroes

Each player will draft a group leader and two additional characters for their team. Each team will include one character from each of three roles: damage, tank, and support. On your turn, you'll roll a numbered die and move your group leader, and you'll also roll an ability die that will let you activate an ability for one of your characters. Certain board spaces also let you activate these abilities.

When you need to lose HP but have none, one of your characters must be eliminated, and they become inactive. They can be respawned or swapped out for another character when you pass GO.

Collect Loot Boxes and Respawn or Swap Characters

Each time a player passes GO, they level up. This means they collect a Loot Box card, which is worth points at the end of the game, and they may respawn or swap out characters.

Set It Up!

  1. Separate the HP chips by value, and place them within reach of all players.
  2. Shuffle the Loot Box cards, and place them facedown based on the number of players you have:
    • Two players: 5 cards
    • Three players: 7 cards
    • Four players: 9 cards
  3. Place the objective cards, point-side up, next to their matching board spaces. If you don't have room, keep them as a stack, and choose someone to be in charge of them.
  4. Each player starts the game with:
    • 5 white HP chips (worth 1 each)
    • 1 blue HP chip (worth 5 each)
    • 1 Reminder card

Note, you can never have more than 25 HP. If you have 25 HP and any action requires you to collect more, do not collect any.

Build Your Team!

Each player gets a team of three characters: a group leader, for which they'll have a token, and two additional characters. Each team must include one character from each of three roles: damage, tank, and support.

Players build teams by doing the following:

  1. All players roll the numbered die. The highest roller chooses a group leader first, and the choice moves to the left. Players place their character token on GO and the matching character card in front of them. After each player has chosen a group leader, place the rest of the group leader tokens and cards back in the box.
  2. Group the rest of the character cards by role, and lay them out where all players can reach.
  3. The player who chose their group leader first also has first pick of their second character and takes that character card. The choice moves to the left until each player has one character in each role, including their group leader, for a total of three character cards.
  4. Leave the undrafted character cards out. Players will have the option to swap in those characters later in the game.

Is It Your First Time Playing?

If you're new to the game, try playing with these characters. This will help you get familiar with the heroes and their abilities. The printed example lists these suggested group leaders: Player One, Reaper (printed as "Unkown"); Player Two, Winston; Player Three, Lúcio; Player Four, Mercy.

Source note: the printed guide misspells "Unknown" as "Unkown" on the Reaper card and in its header; it is transcribed here as printed.

Play!

How to Win

Earn points by securing objectives and collecting Loot Boxes. The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins!

Who Goes First?

The player who chose their final character last goes first, and play moves to the left.

On Your Turn

  1. Roll both dice, and do the following in any order:
    • Move your group leader forward the number of spaces rolled. Where did you land? Follow the rules of that board space. See THE BOARD SPACES.
    • Activate the ability on your ability die. See THE ABILITY DIE.
  2. At the end of your turn, if you landed on or passed GO, take 2 HP and a Loot Box card. If any of your characters have been eliminated, you may respawn them and/or swap any characters, eliminated or active, but not including your group leader, for other, undrafted characters. See LEVELING UP.
  3. Your turn ends! Pass the dice to your left.

Deals and Trades

At any time on your turn, you may offer to buy, sell, or trade objectives with other players. You may not sell or trade Loot Box cards at any time. The points you earn from Loot Boxes are yours until the end of the game!

The Board Spaces

Objectives

Objectives are set up on the board from least expensive to most expensive, starting with Marketplace and ending with King's Row.

Uncaptured Objectives. When you land on an objective that no one owns, you must pay to capture it or auction it.

  • Want to capture it? Pay the price on the space, and take the objective card.
  • Don't want to capture it, or can't afford it? The objective goes up for auction. Bids start at 1 HP and may be raised by as little as 1 HP. Anyone can bid at any time. The highest bidder wins the auction, and payment goes to the Bank. If all players pass on bidding, the objective remains uncaptured.

Captured Objectives. When you land on an objective that someone else captured, pay them the amount shown on the objective's card. If a player owns both objectives in a color set, pay them double! If the owner doesn't ask you to pay rent before the next player rolls the dice, you don't have to pay!

Push the Payload

When you land here, advance clockwise to the next Push the Payload space, and stop there. If you pass GO, collect 2 HP and level up at the end of your turn. If an HP chip is in your path because another player's ability allowed them to place one there, you must follow the rules of that ability.

Health Pack

When you land here, roll the numbered die and collect that many HP from the Bank.

Remember, you can't have more than 25 HP.

Just Visiting

When you land here, put your group leader on the Just Visiting space.

Free Parking

If you land on Free Parking, you may choose any one of your objectives and immediately trade it for any one of another player's objectives. They must accept the trade.

GO

If you land on or pass GO, collect 2 HP from the Bank. At the end of your turn, take the top Loot Box card, and respawn or swap out a character if you like. See LEVELING UP.

Go to Jail

Move your group leader to the In Jail space immediately! Do not collect 2 HP for passing GO, and do not level up. Your turn is over.

While in Jail

You may still collect HP when players land on your objectives, take part in auctions, and trade. Character abilities still affect you. You may not roll the ability die.

How Do I Get Out of Jail?

Pay 5 HP to the Bank before you roll for your turn. Then roll both dice, and take your turn as normal.

OR

Roll the numbered die. If you get a 6, get out of Jail for free! Roll both dice, and take your turn as normal. If you fail to roll a 6, your turn ends. After your second attempt at rolling, you may exit Jail for free, move to Just Visiting, and roll both dice normally on your next turn.

Ultimate Ability

Each group leader has a unique ultimate ability. When you land here, you may activate it. See below for a description of each, or see your character card.

Note, you can still use your ability die roll when you land on an ultimate ability space. You'll get to activate two abilities!

The Ability Die

The ability die lets you activate an ability on your turn. There are three types of abilities, which correspond to the character roles damage, tank, and support. For example, when you roll the damage icon, activate your damage character's ability. If the die shows your group leader's role ability, activate that ability. See each character card for details.

Make sure you activate your ability before the next player rolls the dice, or it's too late!

Note that you may choose not to activate an ability you rolled.

  • Damage characters inflict damage and move quickly around the board.
  • Tank characters soak up damage or break fortifications.
  • Support characters heal and shield your party.

Why Does It Matter Which Die I Use First?

In the example below, Tracer just rolled a 4 and a support icon. Her support character is Ana. If Tracer moves first, she'll land on King's Row, which is uncaptured and costs 5 HP. She has only 3 HP, so she can't afford to capture the objective and has to put it up for auction. Other players have more HP and could easily capture the objective. She would then be able to use Ana's support ability and collect 3 HP from the Bank a bit too late.

If she uses Ana's support ability first, she will collect 3 HP from the Bank. She can then move 4, and when she lands on King's Row, she'll have enough money to capture it.

What If I Run Out of HP?

Any time another player uses an ability that causes you to lose HP or when you need to pay rent, you must do so.

If your HP goes below 0, one of your heroes, not including your group leader, must be eliminated and becomes inactive. You must choose which one and do the following:

  1. Turn their hero card facedown in front of you.
  2. Take 5 HP from the Bank.
  3. Pay any HP you still owe.

When characters have been eliminated, you may not use their abilities. You may respawn eliminated characters when you pass GO and level up. See LEVELING UP.

It is possible to have more than one eliminated character at a time.

If you don't have enough HP and only your group leader is active, you must sell objectives back to the Bank for face value or to other players for an agreed-upon price. Then pay your debt.

If none of your characters is active and you have no objectives to sell, you've got it bad enough already. Hang in there!

Note, the only time a hero can be eliminated is when you owe HP and can't pay.

Leveling Up

When you land on or pass GO, you get to level up by drawing a Loot Box card, which is worth points at the end of the game, and by respawning or swapping out your characters. At the end of your turn:

  1. Take the top Loot Box card. You may look at it, but keep it a secret. This is yours until the end of the game.
  2. You may respawn any of your eliminated characters and/or swap out any of your characters, eliminated or active, but not including your group leader, for undrafted heroes.
    • To respawn a character, flip that character's card ability-side up in front of you. They are now active again.
    • To swap out a character, place that character's card with the other, undrafted heroes', and swap it for another character card of your choice. You must choose a character in the same role as the one you swapped out.
    • You may not swap characters with other players.

The End of the Game

The game ends immediately after the last Loot Box card is taken and that player has finished leveling up. The player with the highest score wins!

To find out how much you scored, add up the points from your objective cards, Loot Box cards, and HP chips. The player with the most HP chips wins the title of Play of the Game and adds 30 points to their final score.

Here's an example of how to add up your points. This player owns 3 objectives and has 2 Loot Box cards and the most HP. The printed example totals 160 points: 60 points, 70 points, and an HP bonus of 30 points.

If there's a tie, the player with the most HP wins!

Other Ways to Play

Mystery Heroes

Instead of choosing group leaders and drafting teams, at the start of the game, shuffle the group leader cards and deal one to each player. Then shuffle the remaining character cards and deal 2 to each player.

When players pass GO, they may not swap out characters.

No Limits

When drafting your team of heroes, you may ignore roles and draft whichever characters you choose, as long as you have one group leader and two additional characters.

6V6

When playing a two-player game, instead of drafting a team of three characters, each player chooses any three group leaders, regardless of their roles, and any three additional characters, regardless of their roles.

Lock Out Elimination

When you pass or land on GO and level up, you must swap all of your heroes for undrafted heroes in the same roles.
