Components

  • 4 temple boards (3x3 spaces)
  • 4 round statue boards
  • 2 player boards
  • 2 Monki figures
  • 8 hexagonal ruby tokens
  • 40 round pot/fruit tokens

Setup

  1. Assemble the 2 player boards, each of which consists of 2 parts.
  2. Assemble the game board by sliding the 4 temple boards against each other so that each one borders another temple board along at least 2 spaces.
  3. Each temple board must have at least 1 free corner so that a statue board can be placed against it. For the first game, it is recommended to form a square with the temple boards.
  4. Shuffle the 40 fruit tokens with the pot side facing up and make 12 stacks of 3 tokens. Place the stacks on the pot spaces on the temple boards.
  5. Place the 4 remaining fruit tokens, fruit side up, on the 4 statue boards (1 token on each board).
  6. Each player chooses a Monki and places the matching player board in front of them.
  7. Each player takes 4 different hexagonal ruby tokens and places them red side up in front of their player board.

The game can now begin!

Goal of the Game

The player who first fills the first row of their player board with the 8 fruits depicted on it wins the game.

OR

The player who first fills the second row of their player board with the 8 golden fruits depicted on it wins the game.

Translator's note: the Goal section above prints "8 gouden vruchten" (8 golden fruits) for the second row, while the End of the Game section below says the second row is completed with "4 gouden vruchten" (4 golden fruits). The transcription follows each section as printed. The End of the Game wording (4 golden fruits, one of each fruit type, matching the token distribution) is the one consistent with the components.

Turn Sequence

Determine the starting player (for example, the player who most recently ate a banana). The starting player places their Monki on an empty space on a temple board. The other player then does the same. After that, the starting player takes the first turn.

On a turn, a player does the following, in this order:

  1. MOVE your Monki.
  2. COLLECT 1 or more fruits, if possible.

OR

  1. SKIP A TURN to recharge your ruby tokens.

1. Move Your Monki

A player may move their Monki in a straight line OR a diagonal line, as many spaces as they wish. Note: each move may only pass over free spaces and may only end on a free space (with no tokens or other Monki on it).

Note: if there is an opening in the game board between a Monki and a pot (due to the arrangement of the temple boards chosen during setup), that pot may not be opened. An opening in the game board counts as an obstacle.

2. Collect Fruit

A player can collect fruit in two different places: on the temple boards or on the statue boards. On each turn the player MUST CHOOSE ONE OF THESE TWO PLACES.

A. Collecting Fruit from a Temple Board

After the Monki has moved, the player may choose to open a pot.

To do so, the player flips over a token that lies in the same row or column as their Monki. There may be no obstacle (token or other Monki) between the Monki and the token the player wants to flip. The player may only flip the top token of a stack.

The flipped token stays where it lies. The player then chooses whether to OPEN ANOTHER POT or to PASS.

Golden fruits: If a player flips a golden fruit, they immediately place it on the statue board next to that temple board. They can only collect it in a later turn, using a ruby token (see B. Collecting Fruit from a Statue Board, below). On the temple board, a new token may now become available. In the same turn, the player may choose to flip that token.

Open another pot: The Monki opens another pot, but watch out for doubles!

If a player flips a token showing a fruit that they already flipped earlier in this same turn (regardless of the colour of the pot), they are unlucky! Their turn ends immediately. They may not collect any fruit this turn. They place all the tokens they flipped on the statue boards next to the temple boards.

Golden fruits are never considered doubles, because they are placed directly on the statue boards.

PASS: collect fruit. The Monki collects all new fruits. Fruits that the Monki already has are sacrificed on the adjacent statue boards. The player places the fruits they did not collect earlier on the corresponding free spaces on their player board.

A player may never collect the same token twice.

The remaining flipped tokens are placed on the statue board adjacent to the temple board on which the token lay.

Example (Thomas):

  1. Thomas flips over a banana and chooses to flip another token.
  2. He flips over a golden banana and places it directly on the adjacent statue board. It is not considered a double.
  3. Thomas flips over a pineapple. He could choose to collect the 2 flipped fruits, but he flips another token.
  4. Thomas flips over another pineapple. Unlucky! This is a double.
  5. Thomas's turn ends immediately and he places all the flipped tokens on the adjacent statue boards.

B. Collecting Fruit from a Statue Board

After the Monki has moved, the player collects fruit from a statue board using a ruby token.

The player may collect 1 or more identical fruits from the statue board adjacent to the temple board their Monki is standing on. These may be golden fruits or other fruits.

To do so, the player flips over the ruby token of the chosen fruit and collects the corresponding fruits that they do not yet have. They place the tokens on the corresponding free spaces on their player board.

A player may never collect the same token twice.

Note: players may use only 1 ruby token per turn. Flipped ruby tokens cannot be used again until the player skips a turn at the start of a turn to recharge them (see "Skip a Turn", below).

Example (Sara):

  1. Sara uses her banana ruby token and flips it over.
  2. She collects the golden banana and the banana from the green pot.
  3. She leaves the banana from the blue pot, because she already has one.

Golden fruits: this is the only way to collect golden fruits.

End of a Turn

A player's turn ends after they have collected fruit. This is also the case if the player was unable to collect any fruit.

Note: in very rare cases a player may be unable to collect any fruit. Their turn then ends directly after they have moved their Monki.

3. Skip a Turn

(to recharge the ruby tokens)

At the beginning of their turn, a player may choose to recharge all of their ruby tokens. To do so, they skip their turn: they do not move their Monki and do not collect fruit.

The player flips all of their ruby tokens back over, so the red side faces up. They may use them again in their following turns.

Note: the players do not have to have used all of their ruby tokens in order to perform this action.

End of the Game

The game ends in one of two ways:

  • A player has collected the 8 fruits on the first row of their player board.

OR

  • A player has collected the 4 golden fruits on the second row of their player board.

In either case, the player wins the game immediately.

Example: Sara wins the game, because she collected the 8 fruits on the first row of her player board.

Token Distribution

Each colour set (blue and green) contains 20 fruit tokens:

  • 4 tokens of each of the 4 fruit types (16 tokens)
  • 1 golden token of each of the 4 fruit types (4 tokens)

Two sets of 20 tokens make up the 40 fruit/pot tokens.
