23 tiles: 1 yellow and 1 red tile. The other 21 tiles have all possible red-yellow-blue combinations, where each corner has one color.
Preparation
- One player gets the solid yellow tile and is the start player. The other player gets the solid red tile. (The colors are not 'player colors'.)
- Shuffle the other 21 tiles face down. Both players take 10 random tiles. Place these face up in front of you, visible to both players.
- Place the remaining tile face up on the table as the start tile.
- Use a pen and paper to note the scores. The start player gets 5 points in advance, so at the start the score is 5-0.
Example of a player's tiles: an illustration shows a player's row of tiles laid out face up.
Turns
Players take alternate turns. Each turn you connect 1 of your own tiles, side to side, to 1 or more tiles on the table. Colors may never connect to other colors. If you can't connect a tile, then you must discard one of your own tiles.
Illustrations: a correct placement is marked with a check mark and an incorrect placement, where colors touch other colors, is marked with a cross. Corners must match too: a placement whose corner colors do not match is marked with a cross.
Score
The points for each connected color are: the number of connected tiles the color area consists of, without counting your newly placed tile.
Example: you connect this tile to a blue, a red and a yellow area.
The blue area was only on 1 tile, so this scores 1 point.
The red area consisted of 3 tiles, so 3 points.
The yellow area was on 4 tiles, so 4 points.
So this turn scores 1+3+4=8 points.
Second example: a tile placed next to a blue and a red area scores 1 (blue) + 1 (red) = 2 points.
End of the Game
After both players have had 11 turns the game is over. The player with the highest total score wins.
TIP: Play 2 games, alternating start player.
