Components
- 80 life cards, divided into four colors.
- 12 Moira cards (4 Clotho, 4 Lachesis, and 4 Atropos)
- 1 rulebook
Objective
Under the rulings of the three Moirai, players must build a loom in which to thread various lives. At the end of the game, scoring is calculated according to the criteria of Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. The player who has woven the best lives wins the game.
Setup
Shuffle each set of Moira cards separately, take one card at random from each set, and leave them in the center of the table; return the remaining cards to the box. These three cards will govern the game for all players and will determine specific scoring criteria. So:
- Clotho will grant us points according to how we start our lives.
- Lachesis will bless us if we are able to create lives with a particular structure.
- Atropos will grant us points if we cut lives short according to her ordinances.
Shuffle the 80 life cards and form a deck; leave it in the center of the table, with space for a discard pile for each of the four colors. After that, each player draws one card from the deck and, without looking at it, places it face down in front of themselves.
The Game
During the game, players alternate an indeterminate number of turns, one after another. On the active player's turn, using one of the two available actions (see below), the player threads cards into the lives they are creating. When done, the turn passes to the player on their left, who becomes the next active player, and so on until the end of the game. The game ends the moment the last cards of the life deck are drawn (see "End of the Game").
On their turn, the active player chooses one of the 2 available options and, after carrying it out, the turn passes to the player on their left.
Option 1: Draw 3 cards from the deck and keep one.
Draw 3 cards from the deck, look at them secretly, and keep one. Place the others on the 4 discard piles grouped by color, offset so that their numbers remain visible.
After that, place your card face up or face down on your loom.
Option 2: Draw a discard pile.
Draw all the cards from one discard pile and put them on your loom.
You can distribute them among different life threads, and you may only play one of them face down.
How should you place the cards?
If you place a card face up, you must place it in increasing order along the thread of any life that is open, meaning one that has not been cut short with a face-down card at the end of the thread.
If you place a card face down, you can use it as a starting card, to open a new thread of life. To do this, place it to the right of the other lives you have created, with the end of the thread facing up. This action threads a new strand onto your loom. Alternatively, you can also place it with the end of the thread facing down on top of a card you have face up, which will close that thread of life.
The Life Cards
The deck of life cards is made up of 80 cards numbered from 0 to 79. In this numerical series, the same color repeats every four cards. This means that:
- GREEN cards have the values 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, etc.
- BLUE cards have the values 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, etc.
- PURPLE cards have the values 2, 6, 10, 14, 18, etc.
- RED cards have the values 3, 7, 11, 15, 19, etc.
End of the Game
The game ends when a player draws the last card of the life deck. If there were fewer than three cards left, they keep them and play with them. The player plays a card in the usual way and the game ends immediately.
After that, players calculate their score according to the guidelines of the three Moirai. In the event of a tie, the player who has cut short the most lives (those that have a closing card) wins; if the tie persists, the tied players share the victory.
The Moira Cards
Each Moira has 4 scoring cards, but in a given game there is only one card for each Moira. These determine the different objectives and how they are scored. Only Atropos's objectives are tied to the closing of lives. Therefore, for Clotho's and Lachesis's objectives, you will also take into account lives that remain uncut.
Clotho
1) You get 4 points for each life you have NOT created compared to the player who has created the most lives.
Alberto has created 5 lives, being the player who has created the most. Alis has also created 5, and Mélanie has created 3. Mélanie earns 8 points (4 for each life short). Alberto and Alis do not score for this objective.
2) You get 1 point for each life that begins with a different decade (cards 0 to 9 belong to the same decade, the zero decade).
Players can earn a maximum of 8 points (1 per decade).
Mélanie has created 5 lives, which begin with the following values: 7, 14, 23, 27, and 59. She earns a total of 4 points (4 different decades).
3) You get 4 points for having a majority of a color among the first cards of your lives. That is, whoever has the most red first cards among their lives gets 4 points (and the same applies to green, purple, and blue first cards). In the event of a tie, all tied players get the 4 points.
Alberto has 3 first cards of green color; Mélanie, 3, and Alis, 2. Alberto and Mélanie each earn 4 points. Then, the other three colors are resolved in the same way.
4) You get a number of points equal to multiplying the number of first cards of the color you have the most of by the color you have the least of. To do this, you must have first cards of at least two colors.
Alis has 3 red first cards and 2 green ones. She has no other color, so she earns 6 points (3 × 2). If she had had one purple first card, she would only earn 3 points (3 × 1).
Lachesis
5) You get 1 point per card in the longest life you have. To do this, do not count cards that are face down (starting card and closing card, if any).
Alberto has 3 lives: one with 5 cards; another with 8; and another with 6. So he earns 8 points for the life that contains 8 cards.
6) You get 4 points for having a majority of a color in a single life. That is, whoever has the most purple cards in a life gets 4 points (and the same applies to green, red, and blue cards). In the event of a tie, all tied players get the 4 points.
Mélanie has 5 purple cards in one life; Alis has 5, and Alberto has 4. So Mélanie and Alis each earn 4 points.
7) You get 3 points for each life that has all 4 colors.
Alis has 3 lives in which there is at least one card of each of the four colors (blue, red, purple, and green). She therefore gets 9 points (3 × 3).
8) You get 1 point for each card that is next to another card of the same decade (cards 0 to 9 belong to the same decade, the zero decade). That is, all visible life cards score, except those that are not adjacent to another card of the same decade.
Alberto has a life with the following values: 7, 12, 18, 21, 24, 26, 47, 59, and 72. He gets a total of 5 points for the values that are grouped in the same decade (12, 18) and (21, 24, 26). Check the same for his other lives.
Atropos
9) You get a penalty of –3 points for each life that has not been cut short (that is, that does not have a closing card).
Mélanie has 4 unclosed lives left, and therefore loses 12 points (–3 × 4).
10) You get 2 points for each cut-short life with a final value below 40.
Alis has 4 cut-short lives whose last visible card is 23, 39, 40, and 59, respectively. So she earns 4 points (2 × 2) for the lives that end at 23 and 39.
11) You get 2 points for each cut-short life with a final value of 40 or higher.
Alberto has 4 cut-short lives whose last visible card is 17, 40, 58, and 77, respectively. So he earns 6 points (2 × 3) for the lives that end at 40, 58, and 77.
12) The cut-short lives with the highest difference between the first and last card grant 7, 5, and 3 points, according to the position they occupy in that ranking. In the event of a tie, the life with the higher-value last card prevails.
Mélanie has a cut-short life with a difference of 70 (first: 5; last: 75). Alis has others with a difference of 70 (first: 2; last: 72) and 69 (first: 10; last: 79). Alberto has no cut-short life whose difference exceeds those already mentioned. So Mélanie earns 7 points, and Alis earns 8 points (5 + 3).
