Object of the Game

By adding tiles, the players form enclosed areas. If their cosmonauts are inside these areas, players score points. The larger the area, the more points it is worth. Additional points can be earned for aliens located in a player's area. The player with the most points wins.

Setup

A. Place the starting tile (space base) in the middle of the table.

B. Each player takes 24 planet tiles in the colour of their choice (the tiles differ by the colour of their backs). Each player shuffles their own tiles thoroughly and forms a stack with the pictures facing down. Then each player takes one tile from the top of their stack and holds it so that the other players cannot see what is on it.

C. Place the cosmic stones to one side of the table.

Planet Tiles

The tiles show 3 kinds of areas:

  • cosmic forest
  • radioactive meadow
  • bubbling swamp

Some tiles show drawings of cosmonauts in the players' colours, as well as aliens.

Every tile has a laser border around each of its areas:

  • a red laser means no passage,
  • a green laser means passage.

Gameplay

The youngest player begins the game. Play then proceeds clockwise.

On their turn, a player places the tile they are holding on the table, picture side up. The tile must be placed according to these rules:

  • At least one of its sides must touch a tile that is already lying on the table.
  • It may not be placed so that different kinds of areas touch each other (they must be separated by a laser).

After placing the tile, the player takes the next tile from the top of their stack. Their turn ends, and the next player places their tile.

Examples of Placing Tiles

  • The placed tile touches another tile on the table along one side. The cosmic forest on the placed tile matches the cosmic forest on the other tile. Permitted.
  • The placed tile touches a cosmic forest with a red laser. Permitted.
  • The cosmic forest on the placed tile matches the forest on one of the tiles on the table, but the placed tile's area also touches a bubbling swamp on another tile, which does not match. Not permitted.
  • The cosmic forest on the placed tile matches the forest on one of the tiles on the table. The placed tile also touches a bubbling swamp with a laser, which is separated by the laser. Permitted.

Scoring Points

If, after a tile is placed, an area becomes closed (that is, it is surrounded on every side by lasers), the player who has the most cosmonauts in that area scores points. Points are awarded according to the following rules:

  • For the size of the closed area: the player scores one point for each tile the closed area consists of.
  • For aliens: the player scores 3 points for each alien located in the closed area.
  • For neighbouring areas: if the closed area is connected by a green laser to neighbouring areas, the player scores points according to these rules:
    • For the size of neighbouring areas: the player scores one point for each tile those areas consist of. Note: the neighbouring areas do not have to be closed.
    • For aliens on neighbouring areas: the player scores 3 points for each alien.
    • Each neighbouring area is counted separately. A tile showing two kinds of area (divided by a laser running diagonally across it) may therefore be counted twice.
    • Each area is counted only once, even if it is connected to the area just closed by several green lasers.
    • Neighbouring areas that are not connected by a green laser are not counted.

The player who has scored takes cosmic stones of the corresponding value and places them in front of themselves, number side down.

Scoring Examples

Example 1. The blue player places a radioactive meadow tile, closing an area with a cosmic forest. Since only the blue player's cosmonaut is in the forest, the blue player scores 11 points: 2 points for the size of the closed area, 4 points for the size of the neighbouring bubbling swamp, 3 points for an alien on the swamp, 1 point for the neighbouring space base, and 1 point for the neighbouring radioactive meadow.

Example 2. The red player places a bubbling swamp tile, closing this area. The red and blue players each have three cosmonauts on it, so they share the points. If the points cannot be divided equally, the surplus points are lost. The area is worth 6 points for its size, 3 points for an alien on the swamp, 2 points for the neighbouring cosmic forest, and 1 point for the space base, for a total of 12 points. Each player receives 6 points.

Example 3. The blue player places a bubbling swamp tile so that it immediately closes this area. The blue player's cosmonaut is on it, so the blue player scores 10 points: 1 point for the size of the closed swamp, 6 points for the size of the neighbouring swamp, and 3 points for an alien on the neighbouring swamp.

End of Game

The game ends when every player has only 2 planet tiles left in their stack. These tiles are not placed on the table with the others. Instead, the players turn them over and score extra points: 2 points for each cosmonaut and 2 points for each alien on these tiles. Players take cosmic stones of the appropriate value. The player with the most points wins.
