Components
Crime Scene cards, Warning card, 10 Clue cards, this Rule book.
Important: Clue cards have a picture on one side and a description of the result of your investigations on the other. Take care not to peek or read the text on the cards before playing, not even inadvertently!
Setup
Read the introduction on the inner right flap of the box out loud, followed by the three questions you have to answer to solve the case. Place the Crime Scene at the centre of the table, so that it's visible and reachable by everyone. You can take it in your hand to examine it better up close, and you can reread the introduction and questions at any time. Place the 10 Clue cards with the picture side face up next to the Crime Scene.
How to play
Carefully examine the Crime Scene and the visible side of the 10 Clue cards, sharing your first impressions with all other players. Then, choose together 1 of the Clue cards to examine and reveal it, reading its text aloud. Discuss among yourselves, considering the new information you just collected to decide the Clue card to reveal next.
Important: you can always examine both sides of the Clue cards you have previously revealed.
End of the game
Continue revealing new Clue cards and discussing until you think you are ready to answer the three starting questions. Give your answers aloud, be precise and unambiguous. To verify your hypotheses, scan the QR-code you'll find below. The three answers you'll find will include some coloured words: to be considered correct, your answer must contain those elements. Finally, proceed with calculating your score.
Note: the QR-code is a graphic on the printed sheet and is not reproduced here.
Helpful tips
- To solve the case, the information written behind the Clue cards isn't enough. You'll also have to consider the Crime Scene and the illustrations of the Clue cards.
- After revealing a Clue card, you can still look at its illustration at any time.
- Carefully examining the Crime Scene and the illustrations of the Clue cards will help you to avoid red herrings.
- The introduction often contains very useful information. Don't hesitate to read it again during the game.
Final score
The aim of the game is to have fun solving the case. However, if you want to quantify your ability, you can use the following table:
| Result | Points |
|---|---|
| 1 correct answer | 4 points |
| 2 correct answers | 7 points |
| 3 correct answers | 10 points |
| Each Clue card revealed after the sixt | -1 point |
Note: the table's last row is printed as "after the sixt". The worked examples below confirm the intended word is "sixth" (revealing 10 cards with all three answers correct gives 10 − 4 = 6 points).
For example, if you answered correctly to two questions and revealed 6 Clue cards, you'll gain 7 points. If, instead, you answered correctly to all questions and revealed all 10 Clue cards, you'll gain 6 points. If you answered correctly to all questions and revealed 6 cards, you'll gain the maximum score: 10 points.
You can keep score of your points by blacking out the stars you'll find on the lower flap of this box. There are several lines, so you can lend the case to your friends and compare your results to "challenge" them remotely.
