Setup

Assemble the game as described in the base game with the following exceptions:

  1. Add the 16 new building tiles to the 64 building and mob tiles from the base game and shuffle them. Create 16 stacks of 5 tiles each and lay them out in a 4 by 4 grid.
  2. Place the marketplace board next to the play area. Separate the 18 item tiles by the letter on the back and keep them face down so that the X, A or B side is showing. Shuffle the separate stacks. On each space on the marketplace board, place one tile that matches the letter shown. Return the remaining item tiles to the game box. You won't need them during the game. Turn the 4 item tiles marked X face up. Refer to the item reference card for a list of items and their abilities.
  3. Give each player one of the double-sided starting farmland structures. In a 2-player game, turn your starting farmland structure to the side marked "2." In a 3- or 4-player game, turn your starting farmland structure to the side marked "3-4." Place your starting farmland structure on a forest space of your choice on your player board.
  4. Put the 32 yellow vegetable tokens in a pile next to the play area. Place a vegetable token on each of the two spaces on your starting farmland structure. In a 2-player game, you get 1 token.
  5. Choose your favorite skin from among all the available skins and push it into your game piece base. This expansion features 6 new skins for you to choose from.
  6. Replace the scoring round C overview cards and the turn actions overview cards from the base game with the 2 new scoring round C cards and 2 new turn actions cards.
  7. Put the 8 new experience counters in a pile next to the play area. When you complete one lap of your experience point track, take one of the counters and place it next to your player board with the "50" side up. If you complete another lap, turn it to the "100" side.

How To Play The Game

Play according to the rules of the base game. The Farmer's Market expansion offers a sixth action players may take during their turn.

Action 6: Buy from the marketplace

This action allows you to buy items from the villagers. At the beginning of the game and after the scoring rounds A and B, turn four item tiles on the marketplace face up to make them available for purchase. Items are paid for with vegetables. You can find the number of vegetables needed to buy an item in the bottom right corner of the item tile.

To buy an item from the marketplace, choose that item and pay the required number of vegetables. To pay, remove that many vegetable tokens from your farmland structures. Return the vegetables you paid to the vegetable token pile. Then take the purchased item and place it next to your player board.

You can use its special ability immediately after purchasing it.

If you buy an item as the first action of your turn, you may use its special ability during your next action, if applicable.

There is no limit to the number of items you can own.

Grow vegetables

You begin the game with only the vegetable tokens on your starting farmland structure. When you build one of the 16 new farmland structures in this expansion, you grow additional vegetables. Place a vegetable token on each of the spaces on the farmland structure card. These tokens can now be used at the marketplace.

In addition, replenish all vegetable spaces in your biome after scoring round A and after scoring round B. To replenish, place one vegetable token on each of the vacant spaces on the farmland structure cards.

  • After scoring, only replenish vegetable tokens for the empty vegetable spaces on your farmland structure card. Do not take additional tokens for the spaces that still contain vegetable tokens.
  • If you build over a card that provides vegetables, you no longer collect vegetables on that farmland.
  • At the end of the game, vegetables remaining on your farmland do not count toward your score. Therefore, always try to spend your vegetables before scoring.

The following items can be purchased from the villagers:

  • Minecart: Whenever you explore the Overworld, you may move your character 0-3 spaces.
  • Crafting Table: Whenever you build a structure, you may use one of your blocks as an emerald (wildcard) block (use it instead of any other block in the game). For example, you may use a stone instead of an obsidian, wood instead of sandstone, or any other substitution.
  • Jukebox: Whenever you gain experience via the mob icon, you gain an additional experience point. This applies to defeating a mob as well as building one of the more expensive structures.
  • Dropper: Remove a poisonous potato from your pile of weapons and place it on the dropper. It stays there until the end of the game. It is not shuffled back into your weapons pile when fighting a mob.
  • Bed: Whenever you lose a fight against a mob, you may attempt to fight it a second time. Pick up your weapon tokens, re-shuffle them, and reveal 3 per the normal rules for "Fight a mob." This counts as part of the current "Fight a mob" action. If you fail a second time, the action ends.
  • Hopper: Whenever you execute the "Collect blocks" action, you gain 1 experience point.
  • Smoker: If you trade in a defeated mob, you get 2 additional actions this turn (total of 4 actions). You may execute an action that you have already executed earlier in the same turn.
  • Cartography Table: Whenever you explore the Overworld, you may move your character any number of spaces.
  • Minecart with Chest: Whenever you execute the "Collect blocks" action, you take 3 blocks.

Scoring

Use the scoring rules from the base game, with the following exceptions:

  1. After the first scoring round (A: Biomes), reveal the 4 items on the marketplace, marked "A." Items turned face up at the start of the game remain revealed and can still be purchased.

Then, your built farmland structures produce new vegetables. Place one vegetable token from the pile on each of the empty spaces of your farmland structures. Don't put a token on a space that already has one.

  2. After the second scoring round (B: Materials), reveal the final 4 items on the marketplace, marked "B." Any previously revealed items stay on the marketplace.

Then, replenish all your farmland structures as described above.

  3. In the third scoring round (C: Type) you now have access to a new type, farmland structures. If you choose them, you gain 2 experience points for each structure of the largest continuous group of farmland structures.

The game ends after scoring round C. Note that at the end of the game, you also gain experience points for some of the items that you purchased from the villagers.

  • Stonecutter: Whenever you execute the "Build" action, it costs 1 block less to build a structure. You choose which block you do not use. Structures that only cost 1 block are free to build, but you still must use a "Build" action.
  • Fletching Table: Whenever you fight a mob, you reveal 4 weapons.
  • Beacon: During your turn, you may execute 3 different actions. You may not execute the same action twice.
  • Ender Chest: At the end of the game, you gain 1 experience point for each block in your personal supply.
  • Scaffolding: At the end of the game, you gain 2 experience points for each structure you built on your player board, for a maximum of 18 points (2 points for each of the 9 spaces). Only count the top structure on any space.
  • Target: At the end of the game, you gain 2 experience points for each defeated mob you still own.
  • Composter: At the end of the game, you gain 3 experience points for each farmland structure that's visible on your player board. Farmland structures you have built over don't count.
  • Bell: At the end of the game, you gain 4 experience points for each item you have bought at the marketplace. Because the bell counts as one of those items, you will gain a minimum of 4 experience points.
  • Enchanting Table: At the end of the game, you gain 20 experience points.
