Overview

Control everything from cow to cup! Grow your herd, improve your farm, and deliver delicious whole, skim, and chocolate milk throughout the neighborhood to demanding customers. Roll the dice and use the actions wisely to become truly legen-dairy!

Goal

Obtain the most victory points by completing milk deliveries to your customers.

Components

12 Dice - 4 white, 8 black • 4 Dairy Farm boards • 34 Customer cards • 4 Truck cards

20 Cow meeples • 4 Side Tank lock tiles • 32 Money tokens • 20 White Raw Milk tokens

45 Milk Bottles - 15 each of red (whole milk), blue (skim milk), and brown (chocolate milk)

4 Player Aid cards • 1 Customer Zone/Round board • 1 Round marker • 1 Start Player marker

Game Set-up

The example below shows the set-up for a 2-player game.

  1. Give each player one Dairy Farm board, $3, 2 cows, 1 Milk Truck, 1 Milk Truck card, and 2 black dice. Place the cows in the field on the 1st and 2nd spots. Place the Milk Truck on the road in front of the Storage Barn.

  2. Place the Customer Zone/Round board on the table within easy reach of all players. Place the Round marker on the first space of the Round track. Shuffle the Customer cards and place the deck face down next to the Zone/Round board. Deal the top 4 cards from the Customer deck, face up, above the Zone/Round board - one card in each zone. These are the available Customers.

  3. Place $1 above the #3 Zone and $2 above the #4 Zone of the available Customer cards as a reminder that players will receive payment for delivering to those neighborhoods (see Milk Truck actions).

  4. Place a Side Tank Lock tile on each Dairy Farm side tank.

  5. Whomever last drank milk is the starting player. Give them the Start Player marker.

Sequence of Play

The game takes place over a series of rounds. In each round, every player takes one main turn, beginning with the Start Player. On every turn all players roll 2 black dice, and the main player rolls an additional 4 white dice. Once the turn is complete, the 4 white dice are passed clockwise to the next player and it is now that player's main turn. Once all players have had a main turn, the round is over, the round marker is moved one space to the right, and the next round begins.

The number of rounds depends on the number of players in the game.

  • 2 players = 6 rounds
  • 3 players = 5 rounds
  • 4 players = 4 rounds

Each turn of the game is divided into two main sequences: Roll Dice and Take Actions.

Roll Dice

Black Dice

All players roll 2 black dice each turn. These dice may be re-rolled for new results twice. After a player rolls their dice, they set aside any dice showing the Spilt Milk action - those dice are locked. They may then set aside any number of dice and roll the remaining dice again. After this roll, any dice showing the Spilt Milk action are set aside. The player may then set aside any remaining dice and/or pick up unlocked dice that were set aside previously and roll one last time. After this last roll, the black dice may be used for actions.

White Dice

The main player rolls the 4 white dice. White Dice are only rolled once and may only be re-rolled by paying $2 per die (see below).

Pay to Re-Roll

A player may spend $2 to re-roll one of their dice at any time as long as the action on the die has not been taken. When re-rolling the dice the player may re-roll until they get a result different from the one they paid to re-roll. A player may pay to re-roll any die including a white die or a die with a Spilt Milk result.

Pay to Change Die

A player may spend $4 to change the facing of one of their dice at any time as long as the action on the die has not been taken.

Take Actions

There are 6 types of actions in the game. The dice roll results determine what actions are available to the player. Each die represents a single action available to the player. The player may take the actions in any order they wish. Players do not have to take all available actions.

When taking an action, it is suggested that players move the die they used to take the action to the side in order to make the tracking of taken actions easier.

All players may take actions simultaneously on a turn with the exception of a Labor - Claim Customer Card action or Spilt Milk - Remove Available Customer action (see Action Order).

NOTE: At the end of every player's turn they earn $1 for each die they did not use.

Earn Money

Take $3 from the general supply and add it to your supply.

Milk Cows

Produce one Raw Milk for each cow you own.

Each player starts the game with 2 Tanks that can each hold 4 Raw Milk. When a player Milks Cows they may place each individual Raw Milk into any tank as long as the tank has space. If there is no space left in the Tanks the Raw Milk is returned to the general supply. NOTE: Players may purchase an additional Tank called the Side Tank (see Upgrades).

Bottling

Convert all Raw Milk in one Tank to one Bottled Milk type.

Remove all Raw Milk from one Tank and return them to the general supply. Then take an equal number of Bottled Milk of one milk type - either Whole Milk (red), Skim Milk (blue), or Chocolate Milk (brown) - and place the milk in the Storage Barn. If there is no space left in the Storage Barn the newly Bottled Milk is returned to the general supply. The Storage Barn may hold 12 Bottled Milk.

Labor

Take one action: Either Claim a Customer Card or Upgrade Dairy Farm.

Claim a Customer Card - Choose one Customer card from the four available Customers above the Zone/Round board and place that customer in the corresponding Neighborhood Zone on your Dairy Farm board. Then, fill that space in the line with the top card from the Customer card deck. Players may place multiple Customer cards in the same Neighborhood Zone on their Dairy Farm board.

OR

Upgrade - Purchase an Upgrade by paying the cost of the upgrade to the general supply. See Upgrades for a list of available upgrades.

NOTE: When purchasing an Upgrade the player needs to use the Labor action in addition to paying the cost of the Upgrade.

Milk Truck

Perform Milk Truck actions. The maximum number of Truck actions is indicated on the Truck card. The base Truck has 5 actions, and The Big Truck has 7 actions.

Each of the below actions is considered 1 Truck action.

Loading - You may load any number of Bottled Milk from your Storage Barn into your Truck as long as there is space available on the Truck. The basic Truck may hold 6 Bottled Milk, while The Big Truck may hold 9. The truck must be at the Storage Barn in order to load milk.

Driving - You may move exactly one Neighborhood Zone forward or backward per Truck action used. Moving from Neighborhood 1 to the Storage Barn, and vice versa, is considered 1 action.

Delivering - Deliver Bottled Milk to one Customer in the Neighborhood Zone indicated by the location of your Truck. You must deliver ALL required Bottled Milk to a Customer at the same time. It costs 1 action to deliver all required Bottled Milk to a Customer.

Any Truck action that you do not take on your turn is lost. When delivering, the Truck must also be in the same Neighborhood Zone as the Customer card. Once a Customer card has been completed, the Bottled Milk is returned to the general supply and the Customer card is placed face down next to your Dairy Farm board. These cards will be used to calculate your score at the end of the game.

  • Payment for Delivery - When a player makes a delivery to a customer in Neighborhood 3 or 4, that player will receive money for driving such a long way. Receive $1 for each delivery to Neighborhood 3 and $2 for each delivery to Neighborhood 4.

Spilt Milk

Take one action: Either Remove an Available Customer or Remove Milk.

Remove an Available Customer - Choose one Customer Card from the four available Customer cards above the Zone/Round board and place it in the discard pile. Then, immediately fill that space with the top card from the Customer deck.

OR

Remove Milk - Return any number of Raw Milk or Bottled Milk from your Tanks, Storage Barn, or Truck to the general supply.

The Wild Action

A player may use any two matching dice to take any single action. For example, a player may use two Milk Cows to perform one Labor action. NOTE: Players may also use two Spilt Milk actions to take any single action.

Action Order

Generally, players may take actions simultaneously. However, when a Labor - Claim Customer Card action or Spilt Milk - Remove Available Customer action is taken by multiple players, the actions must be taken in player order. The action(s) are taken first by the Main player (if they are choosing those actions) and then play proceeds clockwise, with each subsequent player taking the action(s) before the next player takes the action(s).

Game End

After the last round is completed, add up the victory points displayed in the top left corner of all your completed Customer cards. The player with the highest score wins. In the case of a tie, the player with the most money wins. If there is still a tie, the player with the most Bottled Milk wins. If there is still a tie, players share the victory.

Upgrades

Upgrades can be made at any time on your turn if you can afford to do so.

Cows - When a player purchases a Cow they add a Cow meeple to their Dairy Farm board.

All players start with 2 Cows but may upgrade their herd by purchasing more Cows at the prices below:

  • $2 = 3rd Cow
  • $3 = 4th Cow
  • $5 = 5th Cow

Side Tank ($4) - When a player purchases the Side Tank they remove the Side Tank Lock tile from their Dairy Farm board. The Side Tank may hold up to 2 Raw Milk.

When a player takes a Bottling action on a Main Tank they may also take a Bottling action with the Side Tank at no additional cost. The milk type produced by the Side Tank does not need to be the same milk type produced by the Main Tank. Placing Raw Milk into the Side Tank works in the same manner as with the Main Tanks.

The Big Truck ($9) - When a player purchases The Big Truck they flip their Truck card over.

The Big Truck has 7 actions and can hold 9 Bottled Milk. The Truck may be upgraded to The Big Truck no matter where it is located on the Dairy Farm board.

Example of Play (and a bit of tactics)

It is Penny's main turn, so she rolls her two black dice as well as the four white dice. Her results are shown in the preview's dice images.

That's a pretty good roll, but Penny would really like two Labor actions so that she can upgrade her farm and claim a customer card on this turn. She chooses to reroll the Bottle result on a black die, and gets a Truck action. Not getting exactly what she wants, she rolls it one last time and gets a Bottle action. Oh, well.

She has $5, so she could pay $4 to turn a die to any facing, but that wouldn't leave her much money for an upgrade. She could pay $2 to reroll a die, leaving her with more money for options. She has a plan, but needs a little luck.

She's feeling lucky, so she pays $2 and rerolls the Spilt Milk die, getting a Bottle result. That's a lot of bottling for one turn, but she can work with this.

Penny really wants to unlock her Side Tank, but she is $1 short. She noticed earlier that she could deliver to the available Customer in Zone 3. She uses her Labor action to take that Customer and place it in Neighborhood 3.

Penny uses her Truck die to load the milk in her Storage Barn onto the truck for one action. She then uses three actions to move the truck to Neighborhood 3, and the last action to deliver the milk. She takes the Customer card and places it face down next to her Farm board. Because she delivered to Neighborhood 3, she takes $1 from the supply.

Penny now has enough money for the Side Tank.

Penny uses two of her Bottle dice to take a wild Labor action. She pays $4 and removes the Side Tank lock tile.

Penny now chooses to Milk, placing two of her Raw Milk into the Side Tank, and the extra Raw Milk into the first Tank, filling it.

Finally, Penny uses her last Bottle action, choosing to process the first Tank. She processes the Raw Milk into four Whole Milk. Because she now has the Side Tank, she is able to process that Raw Milk, as well, and chooses Chocolate Milk. She places four Whole Milk and two Chocolate Milk into her Storage Barn. She's now ready to deliver more milk on future turns!

Her main turn is complete so she passes the white dice to Lex, the next player clockwise. He is the Start Player so the Round Marker is moved one space to the right. Once all other players have completed their black dice actions the next turn may begin, with Lex now rolling two black dice and four white dice.
