Setup

  1. Build the Realms. Fit together the 8 Realm pieces with the Midgard piece to form the board in the layout shown. Place the 2 Wolf tokens on their starting spaces of the Wolf tracks as shown.
  2. Prepare the Ragnarok tracks. Place it on the table.
    • Randomly place 10 Prophecies on the Prophecies track of the Ragnarok board. These tokens should face day-side-up on the Sun Wolf row and night-side-up on the Moon Wolf row.
    • Place 4 Ragnarok tokens on the Ragnarok track. Tokens should be in a random order, with random sides face-up.
  3. Set up Blessings. Locate the 4 Blessing cards. Select the sides with runes (in the lower-left) that match the Ragnarok tokens you placed in step 2. Place those Blessings cards near the board.
    • Place the 8 Blessing markers (4 for each player) on the "1" level of each matching Blessing track. For example, the red player's marker goes on the "1" of the yellow Blessing track. The blue player's marker goes on "1" of the green Blessing track.
    • Randomly select 4 Relics including 1 of each level (1 through 4). Place them in order with level 1 at the bottom, day-side-up, over the blessing spaces of the blue track. Do the same for the red Blessing track, but place the Relics night-side-up. Remove unused Relics from the game.
  4. Place the meeples. Find the 4 named meeples that match the Blessings cards. Place each meeple on its matching Realm. See Reference - Blessings for matching each meeple.
  5. Choose player colours. Each player takes a player marker and points marker in their preferred colour. Place the points markers on space "0" of the scoring track. Choose a starting player. Give the other player 1 resource of their choice (Gold or Mead). Put the remaining resources in a supply.

The example setup on the page opposite is recommended for your first game.

Playing the Game

Your objective is to end the game with the most Victory Points (VP), gained from Prophecies, Blessing abilities, and your crafted Relics.

Taking a Turn

Players alternate taking turns, performing the following steps in order:

  1. Move an unmarked meeple to an adjacent empty Realm. Then place your Player marker on that meeple.
  2. Activate the Realm.
  3. Check for Ragnarok.

Each of these steps is explained in more detail below.

1. Move

On your turn, you must move a meeple to an adjacent connected Realm space. Each of the 9 Realm spaces is marked with a rune. Midgard is accessible from any of the 8 outer Realms, unless that Realm has been destroyed by Ragnarok. Note that:

  • The chosen meeple must not already have a player marker on it.
  • The chosen meeple may not remain on the same space.
  • Meeples may not share the same Realm space.
  • In the rare event that no legal moves are possible, you may move an unmarked meeple to Midgard.

Example: Blue player moves Freya from Vanaheim to Asgard.

2. Activate

After moving a meeple, you must resolve the abilities of the Realm space. You may resolve these abilities in any order. Abilities include:

Gain resources Gain the amount of Gold or Mead shown. Note: Players may have a maximum of 7 of each resource.

Move a Wolf Move the corresponding Wolf marker clockwise to the next available space. Then gain a Sun or Moon Action.

Sun/Moon/Craft action You may spend each Sun, Moon or Craft action to either:

  • Activate a Blessing track
  • Activate the ability of a Relic

Activating a Blessing track

Blessing tracks are activated by spending the action shown at the bottom of the card, to either:

  • Move your Blessing marker one space up.
  • Activate the abilities of a chosen square at your level or below, then move your Blessing marker to the level "1" of that track. For squares covered by a Relic (on Blue and Red tracks), instead claim that Relic, placing it in front of you.

Activating a Relic

Your Relics may be activated by spending the Action or resources shown to gain the benefit. You may only activate each Relic once per turn.

Abilities are typically represented in the form cost:effect.

3. Check for Ragnarok

If, at the end of a player's turn, a Wolf marker has passed the end of its track (indicated by a non-matching space) perform the following steps to resolve Ragnarok:

  1. Score the leftmost Prophecy corresponding to the Wolf (Sun or Moon) that reached the end of its track. Award the points shown to the winning player (or neither in the event of a tie) and then discard both Prophecies. In the rare event that both Wolf tokens have passed the end of their tracks, the current player chooses which Prophecy scores.
  2. Destroy the Realm shown on the Ragnarok token. Flip it to the destroyed side and place the token in the space next to it.
  3. Reset both Wolf markers, placing them on the furthest available starting space.

End of the Game

The game ends immediately when either:

  • a player reaches 9 points, or
  • the final Prophecy has been scored

The winner is the player with the most points at the end of the game. In the event of a tie, the player with the most remaining resources is the winner.

Solo Mode

In the solo mode you play against Loki, who has their own devious plans for the realms. Setup the game as normal, with the following additional steps:

  • Prepare the Loki deck. Shuffle the 8 Loki cards and place in a pile face down.
  • Place the Loki meeple in the middle of the Loki Track. Place the two influence markers on the starting spaces of the tracks on each side.

You are the second player.

Loki Turn

Loki takes a turn by drawing a Loki card and resolving it as follows:

  1. Move the first available meeple shown on the card (prioritising from top to bottom) in the direction indicated (see Movement below). Then place Loki's player marker on that meeple.
  2. Resolve the space, using the instructions below.
  3. Resolve the Focus by moving Loki's Sun or Moon marker one space along the track and gaining the bonus.
  4. If all eight cards have been drawn, reshuffle and place them facedown.

1. Movement

Loki will attempt to move the meeple one step closer towards the Sun or Moon Zenith, which is an imaginary space at the top and bottom of the board (between Alfheim-Asgard, and Helheim-Svartalfheim). If the meeple is already adjacent to the chosen Zenith, it will cross over to the other side of that Zenith.

If movement towards the Zenith is not possible, Loki will attempt to move to Midgard. If that movement is not possible, Loki will attempt to move in the other direction. If neither of those are possible Loki will move the next available meeple shown on the card.

2. Resolve a Space

Loki resolves the action on the space moved to in the following way:

Gain resources Gain the Gold or Mead shown. If Loki cannot gain the resource, move the marker on the Sun influence track (for Gold) or Moon influence track (for Mead) instead for each resource.

Move a Wolf Move the corresponding Wolf marker clockwise to the next available space. Then Loki gains a Sun or Moon Action.

Sun/Moon Action Loki moves their Blessing marker one level up the corresponding Blessing track (Green or Yellow). If the marker is already at the top, Loki moves one space on the corresponding influence track instead.

Craft Action Loki resolves the Blessing track (Blue or Red) based on the focus shown on the card. Loki will take the highest level relic based on the current position (and move the blessing marker to the bottom of the track), or else it will move up the track 1 space.

Loki will choose an Action on Midgard that increases its value of the current prophecy (based on the focus shown on the card). If not possible, Loki will look at the next prophecy that matches the current focus.

Note: Loki does not activate any abilities of Relics or Blessing tracks during the game.

3. Resolve Focus

Loki resolves the Focus shown on the card by moving an influence marker one space along either the Sun or the Moon track, and taking the associated bonus (see below). If the Loki symbol is shown on the card, the focus is chosen based on Loki's position on the influence track.

  1. Gain 2 Gold/Mead
  2. Move up 1 space on the Blue/Red Blessing track
  3. Move the Sun/Moon wolf
  4. Gain 1 point and reset the influence track.

Influence Track

The influence track represents Loki's shifting powers. When a Prophecy is scored move Loki's marker on the track as follows:

  1. If you scored points from the objective, move Loki's marker one step towards the side of the scored prophecy (up for Sun, down for Moon).
  2. If Loki scored points, move Loki's marker one step towards the middle, if able.
  3. If no points were scored (in the case of a tie), leave the marker where it is.

If Loki's meeple is in the centre, Loki resolves the focus according to the Sun or Moon symbol shown on the card. If Loki's meeple is one or two spaces away, Loki resolves the focus shown on the track one or two times respectively.
