Artist Cards
The Artist cards have the following characteristics:
- Name of the artist.
- Inspiration: Their spark to choose memorable words and notes.
- Charisma: Their personality and natural magnetism.
- Revelry: How much they want to go out and enjoy life to the fullest.
- Reputation: Their value in the music industry and in the media.
- Style (HR: Hard Rock; HM: Heavy Metal; EX: Extreme Metal): Their musical style.
- Performance: The instrument they play and in which degree.
Record Company Cards
Special cards you immediately get when reaching 15 Fame points.
- Name of the record company.
- Style (HR: Hard Rock, HM: Heavy Metal, EX: Extreme Metal).
- Modifiers to the characteristics of your artists, with the same musical style.
The printed rules spell this as "inmediately"; it is read here as "immediately".
Band Board
The Band Board shows the status of your road to success and the available actions.
- Equalizers: Each band board has three equalizers, one for each of the three actions: Performance (blue), Recording (red) and Advertising (green). Each equalizer has levels from 0 to 3.
- Funds dial: Marked 0 to 10, with the dice symbol "+6" printed beneath it.
- Audition dial: Marked 0 to 10.
- Beers dial: Marked OFF and ON.
- Money grid: A grid of the numbers 0 to 9 with money icons, with a "$" token and a "10$" token printed on it. The printed rules do not explain this grid.
Equalizer levels are printed as follows:
- Performance (blue): Level 1 — CONCERT, ±1 Fame points; Level 2 — FESTIVAL, ±2 Fame points; Level 3 — WORLD TOUR, ±3 Fame points.
- Recording (red): Level 1 — DEMO, roll 1 die again; Level 2 — ALBUM, roll 2 dice again; Level 3 — GOLD ALBUM, roll 3 dice again.
- Advertising (green): Level 1 — INTERVIEW, ±1 on a die; Level 2 — TV SHOW, ±2 on a die; Level 3 — MOVIE, ±3 on a die.
Set Up
- Each player takes a band board, places an equalizer token on the space "0" of each one of their equalizers and marks 13$.
- Then, they collect the artists indicated on their board and place them in front of them, forming their initial band. The artists printed on the band board are Kirk Hammer, Doro Peck, David Ellefson and Mike Portnel.
- Shuffle the remaining artists to form a deck, face-down, and then place 9 cards, face-up, so everyone can see them; these will be the available artists for audition.
- Place the Event board in the middle of the table and the coloured tokens of each player on the space "0" of the Fame track.
- Place the 5 Record Company cards, face-up, next to the Event board so everyone can see them.
- Choose the first player (the one with the emptiest beer jar).
Turn Sequence
Starting by the initial player and in counter-clockwise order, players perform consecutive turns to reach the end of the game by achieving the victory condition.
Turns consist of 5 steps in the following order:
- Place the active face of the equalizer token of your equalizers.
- Roll two dice and apply the corresponding effect of the Event board. You may change the result of the dice by +1 or -1 by paying 2$, as many times as you want.
- If you have at least one inactive artist, skip this step and perform the step 4 twice. If you don't have one, choose one of the next actions and perform it: Performance, Recording or Advertising, related to one of the three equalizers.
- Roll as many dice as artists and place one die on each one of them, taking into account the information on the right side.
- Roll the dice and if you get at least 2 hits, move the equalizer up to the next level getting the indicated bonuses. When you move an equalizer up, you may perform its action at any time by turning it while it's active.
- Bonus: Add or subtract X Fame points from a profit or loss of Fame; roll X dice again; add or subtract X from a die. These actions may be performed during your throws or the throws of other players.
- Choose one of the three actions: Audition, Funds or Beers.
- Pay 1$ for each one of your artists, regardless their condition. If any artist doesn't get paid, they turn into troublesome, or inactive if they were already troublesome.
Then, it's the turn of the player to your right.
Dice Results
- Fail: A result of "6" or higher than their characteristic. The artist has been terrible and turns into troublesome, or inactive if he was already troublesome.
- Routine: A result equal to their characteristic except for a 6, which is always considered as Fail. It represents a poor performance and it doesn't grant Fame points.
- Hit: A result lower than their characteristic, except for a 6. Every die with a Hit result grants you as many Fame points as its value.
Artist Condition
- Active: The usual condition of an artist. Being active means they can perform any action chosen by the player who controls them and get Fame points.
- Troublesome: Because of certain events or bad throws during the game, an artist may turn into troublesome. That means they flip and lose their passion. You won't get Fame points from their Hits. Place the artist horizontally to show this condition.
- Inactive: An artist sometimes gets depressed and becomes ineffective. In this case, their condition would turn into inactive and the band could not perform any action during Step 3. Place the artist upside down to show this condition.
Actions (Step 4)
Audition
Choose one of the 9 available artists and pay as many $ as their Reputation value. If you have an artist assigned to that very same instrument, discard the artist and win as many Fame points as their Reputation value.
There are four basic positions: guitar, microphone, bass and drums. Besides, you can add a fifth one with a keyboard or a V-shaped guitar.
Funds
Roll a die and increase your funds by the result plus 6.
Beers
Rock stars like to go out and get crazy with their friends and groupies. Roll, for each artist separately, as many dice as their "Reverly" and apply the following:
The printed rules spell the characteristic as "Reverly"; it is read here as "Revelry", the Artist card characteristic.
- If the artist doesn't get any 6, the revelry feels great and their condition turns from troublesome into active or from inactive into troublesome.
- If the artist gets a 6, their condition turns into troublesome, unless they were already troublesome, in which case, they will turn into inactive. If they were inactive, nothing happens.
- If the artist gets two or three 6, a miracle happens: they throw the best metal party ever. Euphoric, the condition of the band turns into active and you get 5 Fame points for two 6s and 10 Fame points for three 6s. Then, finish your turn without having to pay in the Step 5.
End of the Game
The first player who gets 66 Fame points wins the game.
