Components

  • "Preved" figurine, shaped like a log: 1 pc.
  • Cards: 84 pcs.
  • Bag for the game: 1 pc.
  • Rules of the game: 1 pc.

"Bonjour," said the clumsy monster, modestly.

Setup

  1. Shuffle the cards.
  2. Deal them to the players roughly equally, face down.
  3. Remove any remaining (undealt) cards from the game.

The bear takes a long time to harness up, but drives quickly!

Goal of the Game

The goal is to get rid of your cards before the other players. To do this you need to be very attentive and very quick.

Start of the Game

The game is started by the player who likes honey more than the other players.

The bear is strong, but he has no will!

Playing the Game

  • On each player's turn, that player turns over one card from his own stack and, moving it away from himself, places it beside the stack. Two stacks are formed: the still face-down cards and the already face-up cards.
  • If two cards with the same picture (but not the same color) appear on the table, a duel is declared between their owners.
  • If all the pictures are different, the turn passes clockwise.

Duel

The cat with a paw, and the bear with his whole five-fingered paw.

The bear-style duel looks very simple: you need to grab the log, "Preved," as fast as possible. If players grab the log at the same time, it must not be pulled away. Simply look whose hand is higher.

  • The winner of the duel for the log gives all the cards from the face-up pile, except the top card, to the loser.
  • The loser of the duel takes the cards passed by the winner and his own face-up cards, and places them face down in his own face-down deck.

Remember that after this, every participant has at least one card lying face up.

After the duel ends, the turn passes to the next player.

Penalty

Be friends with the bear, but keep a grip on your rifle.

If a player grabs Preved out of turn, all players give him their face-up cards, except one (the top card). Serves him right! Don't get in the way of the boss!

Special Cards

Besides the ordinary cards, the game has special cards of three types:

  • [Card picture: a log with red berries.] "Preved to everyone!" If this card is drawn, EVERYONE must try to grab Preved first. The one who manages to do so exchanges all of his face-down cards for the face-down cards of another player.
  • [Card picture: two hands reaching for a log.] "Preved, neighbours!" When this card is shown, a duel instantly begins between the neighbours of the player who laid it down.
  • [Card picture: leaves arranged in a circle with arrows.] "Reverse Preved" When this card appears, the direction of turn passing reverses. For example, if play was going clockwise, it now goes counterclockwise.
  • [Card picture: four leaves with coloured dots.] "Duel by colour" If two or more players at the table laid cards that match by COLOUR (shape does not matter), a duel begins between them. The one who grabs Preved first and wins the duel gives his opponents his face-up cards, except the top one. The winning player may distribute the cards among the losing players as he sees fit.

If no colour match occurs, players continue laying cards one after another clockwise until the first duel by colour happens. After that the game returns to the normal stage: the deciding factor again becomes shape, not colour.

Ordinary Cards

Winner

Hip-hip, hooray!

When a player has one face-up card left, he raises his hands up in the Bear's gesture and says "Preved!" If he hesitates and fails to do this in time, he immediately receives a penalty, as for an attempt to grab the log out of turn.

The Main Bear is the one who gets rid of their cards before the others.

End of the Game

To be afraid of the bear is to run from a squirrel.

The game ends when all players, except two, have gotten rid of their cards. Of these last two players, the one who has more cards left in hand loses.

Tips from the Bear

[Illustration: two card faces.]

  • The faster players lay out their cards in front of themselves, the more fun the game becomes.
  • Look at both! Cards can be very similar in shape, but still not identical.
  • A flying Preved also counts. Even if Preved has flown off the table, whoever grabs it first wins the duel.
