When does Blaze attack, and does it still fire if I stop early?

Blaze attacks once, after the final step of its movement, hitting the spaces to your left and right. Walls, edges and boulders do not stop it, and a last step into lava still fires. If a Lava Pool stops you before the last step, the attack does not fire. Level 3 hits the sides of your final position only.
