Setup

  1. Deal each player 2 character cards. Set any remainder aside. Each player picks 1 and places it face down in front of them. Your life total starts at four.
  2. Shuffle the strategy cards and deal each player 4 cards.

Game Sequence

Round 1 Draft Phase Round 1 Resolution Phase Round 2 Draft Phase Round 2 Resolution Phase

Round 1 Draft Phase

From your hand of 4 strategy cards, choose 1 and place it facedown in draft space 1. This will be the first card that you will play in the game. Pass the other 3 remaining cards facedown to your opponent.

From the 3 cards given to you by the other player, choose and place a card facedown in draft space 2. This shall be the second card that you will play in the game. Pass the 2 remaining cards facedown to your opponent.

From the last cards given to you by the other player, select one and place it down in draft space 3. This shall be the third card that you play in the game. The remaining card should be shuffled back into the stack of remaining strategy cards in the middle of the table.

Round 1 Resolution Phase

Both players reveal their character cards. The player with the best world ranking (the numbered trophy on the character card, with 1 being best and 6 being worst) goes first. Players will alternate turns. A player's turn consists of the following steps in this order:

  1. Decide if you will use your special ability (printed at the bottom of your character card). This ability can only be used ONCE per game. If and when you choose to use your character's special ability, read out the character's taunt (speech bubble) to indicate that you are using it.

  2. Reveal the left-most facedown drafted strategy card and resolve its actions, beginning with the top. The supplied rules reference cards explain what the action icons allow you to do. Some action icons are preceded by a symbol with a linking red arrow. These are known as linked actions. A linked action can only be used if the corresponding symbol appears on ANOTHER faceup strategy card in your tableau (board spaces numbered 1 to 6). Note that the strategy card does NOT count its own symbols for determining if a linked action can be carried out.

  3. Put the card into the leftmost free space in your tableau (board spaces numbered 1 to 6).

  4. Check to see if your signature move activates. Your signature move only activates once per game. The first time that you have the correct correlating symbol (found at the top) on each of your strategy cards in the correct spaces (as indicated on your character card), deal 3 damage to your opponent.

Round 2 Draft Phase

The second drafting phase mirrors the first round of drafting, with the first drafted card going into the fourth place in your tableau upon resolution.

Round 2 Resolution Phase

The second resolution phase mirrors the first resolution phase. Note that if a character used their special ability or activated their signature move during Round 1, the same signature move/special ability CANNOT be used again during the second resolution phase.

Game End and Win Conditions

The game ends immediately when:

  1. Both players have completed all 4 game phases (and have therefore played 6 strategy cards each). The winner is the player with the most life points. In the case of a tie, the player with the worst world ranking (the numbered trophy on the character card, with 1 being best and 6 being worst) wins.

  2. Either player's life total reaches 0. That player immediately loses the game.

3 Player Variant Rules

To play with 3 players make the following amendments to the 2 player rules:

  1. During the 1st Draft Phase, players only get dealt three strategy cards (instead of four). You are still dealt 4 strategy cards during the 2nd Draft Phase (as normal).

  2. During both draft phases, players pass unselected strategy cards to the player on their right (counter-clockwise).

  3. During the resolution phases, play order proceeds clockwise from the player who takes the first turn.

  4. Wound actions and signature moves are only applied to the player next in turn order (the player to your immediate left). Flip actions and swap actions can affect any player's tableau.

  5. You immediately win the game if the player next in turn order (the player to your immediate left) is ever reduced to zero life points.

  6. After the end of Round 1 Resolution Phase, players shuffle the first strategy card (the left-most one) in their tableau into the strategy card stack in the middle of the table before the 2nd Draft Phase begins. The game will end after all players have 5 strategy cards in their tableau. (IMPORTANT NOTE: All of the cards in each player's tableau move to the left to fill the gap left by the first strategy card. Therefore, your 2nd card becomes your 1st card for the purpose of activating your signature move.)

4 Player Variant Rules

Players play in 2v2 teams, with teammates sitting opposite each other and sharing a single life total of seven. Teammates share a single tableau and there is only a single drafting phase and a single resolution phase. Each player is dealt 1 character card only. Teammates may openly discuss strategy/strategy cards and may look at each other's drafted facedown cards (press shift + alt to peek at a teammate's facedown card).

Draft Phase

Each player is dealt 4 strategy cards, chooses one and places it facedown in draft space 1. Then players pass the unchosen cards to a player on the opposite team. The player that you pass your cards to the first time must be the player that you pass cards to every time for the rest of the game. The drafting phase is then played in the exact same manner as in the 2 player game.

Resolution Phase

The team with the best world ranking character goes first, though either player on that team can take the first turn. Then a player on the opposing team takes their turn. Teams continue alternating turns. Characters on the same team must also alternate taking turns. Every character can still activate their signature move and special ability ONCE during the game (with each team having 2 characters, this means that each team can activate 2 signature moves and special abilities between them). Once all cards are resolved, each team will have 6 cards in their shared tableau.

Game End and Win Conditions

The game ends immediately when:

  1. Both teams have completed both game phases (and have therefore played 6 strategy cards each). The winner is the team with the most life points. In the case of a tie, the team with the character with the worst world ranking (the numbered trophy on the character card, with 1 being best and 6 being worst) wins.

  2. Either team's life total reaches 0. That team immediately loses the game.
