- 2 cosmic Villains: Gladiator and Vulcan
- 96 Hero Cards (12 for each Hero)
- 2 Villain Dashboards
- 24 Master Plan Cards (12 for each Villain)
- 12 Threat Cards (6 for each Villain)
- 4 Locations
- 6 Terrigen Mist tokens
- 3 Water tokens
- 1 Seismic Barrier token
- 6 KO tokens
- 1 Gladiator Tracker
Terrigen Mist
Most of the Inhuman Heroes have a Starting Hand card titled Terrigenesis. If any Heroes with a Terrigenesis Starting Hand card is in the game, at the end of Setup, randomly place 1 Terrigen Mist token facedown in each Location.
As long as a Hero has their Terrigenesis card faceup in the Storyline, they may, during their turn, reveal any Terrigen Mist token in their Location. If they do, they must discard the token to immediately perform the action shown on the back of the token (if any). If they can't or don't want to immediately perform the action, the action is lost (the token is still discarded).
Team vs Team Mode
Even if both Teams have Inhuman Heroes with a Terrigenesis Starting Hand card, only 6 Terrigen Mist tokens are placed facedown during Setup. They don't belong to either Team. Any Hero with a faceup Terrigenesis card in the Storyline can use them.
The same applies for Triton's (or other Heroes') Water tokens.
Gladiator
Duel
When Gladiator BAM!, he Duels 1 Hero in his or an adjacent Location. In case of multiple Heroes there, the Heroes choose which of them will Duel with Gladiator. After completing 2 Missions, Heroes in his Location can also challenge him to a Duel after their Draw a Card step.
When resolving a Duel, follow these steps in order:
- Draw the top 2 cards from Gladiator's Hero deck and place them facedown in front of the Hero involved in the Duel (draw 1 additional card if Gladiator is in a Location with a Great Confidence Threat).
- Reveal the first Gladiator card set in front of the Hero.
- The Dueling Hero must reveal and set aside 1 or more cards from their hand that have symbols at their bottom that match all the symbols at the bottom of the revealed Gladiator card. If they can't, they have lost the Duel.
- If the Hero can match the symbol(s) at the bottom of Gladiator's card, the next card that was set in front of them is revealed and the process continues until either the Hero can't match the symbol(s) - thus losing the Duel - or there are no more Gladiator cards set in front of them. In this case, the Hero wins the Duel.
- At the end of the Duel, all Gladiator cards drawn (whether they were revealed or not) are placed at the bottom of Gladiator's Hero deck, while all Hero cards revealed go back to their player's hand.
Then:
- If Gladiator won the Duel, advance Gladiator's Duel tracker by 1.
- If the Hero won the Duel, advance the Heroes Duel tracker by 1. If the winning Hero has more than 3 cards in hand, they must then discard them until they have only 3 in hand.
Matching Symbols
- Heroes can only use the symbols at the bottom of the cards in their hand to match the symbols at the bottom of Gladiator's cards. Any Special Effect's symbol is ignored during the Duel.
- Heroes cannot use the same card to match multiple Gladiator cards. Any card used to match one of Gladiator's cards is set aside and cannot be used anymore in the current Duel.
- Any hero-card symbol (the green and yellow card icon) at the bottom of the Hero cards may be used to match either a hero-card symbol or a green arrow symbol, a yellow star symbol, or a red BAM! symbol.
- Only hero-card symbols can be used to match a hero-card symbol at the bottom of Gladiator's cards.
- If Gladiator's card has a single symbol, the Hero may reveal a card with 2 symbols, as long as one of them matches Gladiator's. The extra symbol is lost and cannot be used to match the symbol on a different Gladiator card.
- If Gladiator's card has 2 symbols, the Hero can reveal more than 1 card to match them. The revealed cards cannot be used anymore in the current Duel. Example: Gladiator's card has [red BAM!] [red BAM!]. The Hero can match it by revealing a single card with [red BAM!] [red BAM!] or 2 cards, each with a [red BAM!] symbol.
- Action tokens cannot be used to match the symbol(s) at the bottom of Gladiator's cards.
Praetor of the Imperial Guard
When a Hero clears the Praetor of the Imperial Guard Threat, they may take their earliest faceup Hero card in the Storyline back into their hand.
If the card they just played this turn is their only faceup card in the Storyline, they may still take it back into their hand at the end of the turn. The next Hero will then use the symbols at the bottom of the previous card in the Storyline, if any.
In this case, even if there are fewer Hero cards in the Storyline than usual, a new Master Plan card is still played once 3 Hero turns have been played (or 2 Hero turns if the Villain is Under Pressure).
Team vs Team Mode
Gladiator CANNOT be used as the Villain in Team vs Team mode.
Vulcan
Team vs Team Mode
BAM!: For the second part of this BAM! effect, look at all the latest Hero cards in both Teams' Storylines, up to the previous Master Plan card.
Villainous Plot: The Heroes lose if they have a total of 6 KO tokens (counting both Teams' KO tokens), regardless of the number of Heroes in the game.
