Setup

During setup, before placing the Threat cards in the Locations, randomly replace one of the Villain's Threats with the Fin Fang Foom Threat and set aside the replaced one (as some Villain effects might bring it back into play when there is a Location without a Threat).

When the Threats are placed in the Locations, place the Fin Fang Foom Threat with the Dormant side up and keep his game piece nearby.

  • If the Villain has more than 6 Threats, make sure that the Fin Fang Foom Threat is among the ones used initially.

Dormant

Whenever a Hero or a Villain ends their turn either in the Location with the Dormant Fin Fang Foom Threat or a Location adjacent to it, add 1 Crisis token to the Fin Fang Foom Threat card.

When there are 3 Crisis tokens on the Fin Fang Foom Threat card, remove all Crisis tokens from it, flip the card, and place Fin Fang Foom's game piece in its Location.

  • While Fin Fang Foom is Dormant he can't be targeted by any effect.

Awake

  • If Fin Fang Foom moves, only his game piece moves, the Threat card remains in place.
  • When Fin Fang Foom deals damage, consider the Location of his game piece, not his Threat card.
  • When attacking Fin Fang Foom or using a Special Effect against him, Heroes must target his game piece, not his Threat card. They cannot directly target the Threat card like a regular Henchman.
  • Don't apply any effect that would shuffle Threats in play or flip them facedown to Fin Fang Foom.

When Fin Fang Foom is defeated, both his Threat card and game piece are removed from the game and cannot be brought back into play by any effect.

Compatibility

Apply the following special rules when facing these specific Villains:

  • Galactus: The Fin Fang Foom Threat cannot replace the 4 Herald Threats.
  • Nova: Even if Nova has no Threats, players may use this Challenge by placing the Fin Fang Foom Threat in the Villain's starting Location.
  • Phoenix Five: This Challenge may be used in the Phoenix Five campaign. The Fin Fang Foom Threat is put into play at the start of each game (even if it has been defeated the previous game of the campaign) and cannot replace any Phoenix Force Threat.
  • Scream: The Fin Fang Foom Threat cannot replace the Venom Threat.

The Fin Fang Foom Challenge is not compatible with the following Villains:

  • Legion
  • The Horsemen of Apocalypse
  • Sinister Six Mode
  • Apocalypse (Age of Apocalypse)
  • Dark Avengers
