Contents
- 1 board
- 5 markers (fichas)
- 1 die
- 480 cards with 2,880 questions
Ages
12 years and up.
Number of Participants
Up to 4 players or teams, plus one referee.
Role of the Referee
The referee reads the questions, receives the answers, directs the movement of the markers on the board, applies the rules and keeps order. The referee's decisions are final. If the players agree, they may take turns performing these functions.
Objective
Take part in a knowledge competition that simulates a marathon race, in which players try to be the first to reach the 42-kilometre finish line by answering questions of general interest.
Topics
- Mexico
- Universal History
- Universal Geography
- Arts, Sports and Entertainment
- Science and Technology
- General Culture
Questions for topics 1, 2 and 3 appear on the front of each card, and questions for topics 4, 5 and 6 appear on the back. The correct answer is marked with an asterisk.
Game Modes
The game supports two ways of playing. The players must agree on the mode before starting, and it cannot be changed during the game.
1. Multiple-Choice Questions
Answer by choosing one of three answer options. All multiple-choice questions are individual and are worth 1 km.
2. Direct-Answer Questions
Answer the question directly, without answer options, in rotation. If none of the players manages to answer, the black marker representing Ignorance advances. Some questions can only be answered with options and are therefore individual. All direct-answer questions are worth 2 km.
Game Play
Once the mode has been chosen, the players sit around the referee and answer the questions in strict order, counterclockwise, starting with the player seated on their right.
The player with the first turn to answer selects the topic of each question with the die. If the roll matches that player's number, the player is entitled to two exclusive questions. [Link]
In the direct-answer mode, the opportunity to answer the next question first always belongs to the player seated to the right of the player who answered the previous question correctly.
Each question has 20 seconds to be answered, counted from the second reading of the question. If a player answers on behalf of another player, that player loses 1 or 2 km, depending on the game mode.
Transcription Notes
These notes record gaps and judgment calls in this transcription. Nothing has been filled in from other sources.
- Winning the race: the source states the goal (reach the 42-km finish line first) but does not state the winning condition, what happens when a player reaches the finish, or how ties are handled.
- Movement: the source gives the values of 1 km and 2 km per question, but does not say how the markers are placed on the board, where they start, how the board track is laid out, or how a marker's position is recorded.
- Setup: the source does not describe setup, including how the 480 cards are arranged or used.
- Black Ignorance marker: the source says it advances, but gives no distance.
- "Two exclusive questions": the source does not explain what exclusive questions are or how they are played. The "[Link]" after this sentence is a cross-reference in the source that does not resolve in this transcription and is left as printed.
- Marker count: the source lists 5 markers (fichas). A second community document for a related edition lists 4. This file follows the 5 printed in this source and has not been checked against the physical insert.
- Restored characters: the Scribd text layer dropped accents and some letters. Accents were restored from context (for example "fichas" for "chas", "Árbitro" for "rbitro"). The "ó" in "1 ó 2 km" was missing from the text layer and has been restored from context. "sersiempre" was read as "será siempre".
- Omitted: the author disclaimer, the contact address, and the customer-service footer have been left out as credits and boilerplate, not rules.
