Mechs Setup
-
Turn the Start Player token and give it to the player at whose position the central tip of the letter M points.
-
Remove all green river cards, then separately shuffle the 4 bonus card decks. Count out cards from each deck equal to the number of players to form 4 decks. Give 1 deck to each player. In 2- and 3-player games some players may receive more than 1 deck. Each player chooses 1 card and passes the rest to the player on their left, until every player has 1 card from each deck.
-
Remove passenger tokens according to the number of players:
- 4 players: remove none.
- 3 players: remove 3 passenger tokens of each color.
- 2 players: remove 5 passenger tokens of each color.
Return the removed passengers to the box.
-
Each player takes: 1 Train, 1 Mech Hub, 2 Mechs, 1 Mechs Guide, 18 Track tiles, 1 Player board, 1 Steel robot, 1 Gold robot, and 1 Copper robot. The 4th player receives 1 robot of any color.
-
Place all 14 stations in their places in the center of the map, and place 1 passenger of the matching color on each station.
-
Place the remaining Steel, Gold and Copper robots in the cloth bag.
-
Draw the starting robots from the bag and place them on the empty spaces of the stations. Each station must have robots of the color shown on the board. To make this easier, fill the stations with 3 robots first, then the stations with 2 robots, and finally the stations with 1 robot.
-
Sort the remaining passengers next to the board.
-
Place the Hub on the board.
On your first turn: (heading printed above steps 10–12 on the sheet)
Mechs Rules
Mech Hubs
- Use the Build Station action to place your Mech Hub on an empty half-hex where your track ends.
- After placing the Mech Hub, take your second Mech and place it on any empty triple-width action space.
- You cannot build a Mech Hub if you have no empty triple-width space.
- Each player may build only 1 Mech Hub.
- Mech Hubs behave exactly like the Hub, except that they can hold only 4 passengers (instead of 8).
- Any player may use any Mech Hub that is connected to them.
Mechs
- Mechs can be placed only on empty triple-width action spaces.
- Each Mech maximizes its units for the action.
- Use the Adjust Robots action to adjust Mechs by 1 unit.
- Adjusted Mechs can be placed only on empty triple-width action spaces.
Mech Abilities
- Each Mech provides a special ability for its action (see the Mechs Guide for details).
- The Mech ability Capacity lets you carry 4 passengers in your train. 2 more passengers are placed on the Mech on your player board.
- Passengers can move between the train and the Mech at any time while the Mech's Capacity ability is active.
- The Mech ability Drop Off lets you drop off several passengers at different stations that are directly connected to you, in a single action.
Game End
- The game ends when, at the end of any player's turn, each of the 4 suburban colors has at least 1 station built and the bag contains no passengers.
- After the game ends, finish the current round and play 1 more round.
Monorails Setup
- Turn the Start Player token and give it to the player at whose position the central tip of the letter M points.
- Each player takes 1 Loop card and 1 Passenger on Train card, instead of the other bonus cards "Track" and "Passenger". Shuffle the red and black bonus card decks separately, and count out cards from each deck equal to the number of players to form 2 decks. Deal 1 deck to the last player and 1 deck to the 2nd player. Each player chooses 1 card and passes the rest to the player on their left, until every player has 1 card from each deck.
- Randomly place the 3 starting stations for robots on the gate spaces in the upper part of the map. Do not place robots on these stations.
- Place the remaining stations in their places along the edges of the map, and place 1 passenger of the matching color on each station.
- Place the remaining Steel, Gold and Copper robots in the cloth bag.
- Draw the starting robots from the bag and place them on the empty spaces of the stations.
- Place 1 VIP in the bag for each player.
- Sort the remaining passengers next to their stations.
- Place your Train (with the VIP in it) on 1 of the 3 starting exit stations.
- Place your starting robots on the game board.
On your first turn: (heading printed above steps 9–10 on the sheet)
Remove passenger tokens according to the number of players, as on the Mechs sheet:
- 4 players: remove none.
- 3 players: remove 3 passenger tokens of each color.
- 2 players: remove 5 passenger tokens of each color.
Each player takes: 1 Train, 1 VIP (placed in the train), 18 Track tiles, 1 Player board, 1 Steel robot, 1 Gold robot, and 1 Copper robot.
Monorails Rules
VIPs
- If you take a VIP from the bag during the Refill Station action, place it on your current station, like any other passenger.
- You may pick up a VIP if you have capacity.
- You may drop off a VIP at any station:
- Take a passenger from the bag that matches the color of that station, when you drop off the VIP.
- Return the VIP to the bag.
- If the bag contains no passengers of that color, you cannot drop off a VIP there.
- You may drop off a VIP at stations that you have not unlocked (this allows you to place passengers on your player board, on spaces you have not unlocked).
Refills
- Refill is only possible at the 3 stations at the gates.
New Bonus Cards
- They are treated like any other bonus cards: take only the highest bonus card, unless you have unlocked additional cards on your player board.
- 15/Loop: Get 15 VP if your only track on the map forms a connected loop at the end of the game.
- 4/Passenger on Train: Get 4 VP for each passenger on your train at the end of the game.
Connected Trains
- When another player's train departs or passes through the station where your train is located, you may follow it to any station it moves to or moves through on its turn, regardless of whether you have track there.
- If you have no track on your new station, you must build it from existing track to move from your station. (Alternatively, you may wait to follow another train.)
Example (caption on the sheet): The orange train may follow the yellow train to any station that the yellow train moves to or moves through.
Game End
- The game ends when, at the end of any player's turn, each of the 4 suburban train colors has at least 1 station built and the bag contains no passengers (pink, coral, lilac or purple passengers).
- At the end of the game, the bag may contain VIPs and/or robots.
- After the game ends, finish the current round and play 1 more round.
