How does an attacker split its damage among several blockers?
The attacker divides its power among its blockers, and all creatures deal combat damage at the same time. Without trample nothing reaches the player. Forum posts describing the long-standing rules say the attacker orders its blockers and must assign lethal damage to each before moving to the next; the exact assignment restrictions may differ in the current Comprehensive Rules, so check them.
