Does giving an attacker protection after blocks make it unblocked?

A single well-sourced forum answer; no official ruling.

No. Blockers are already declared, so the attacker stays blocked. Protection only prevents the damage from the creatures it protects against; to avoid blockers you must act before blockers are declared.
