The Edicts

Once the Council area (A) has been resolved, players do not take their men back immediately; if all players played in the Council, then also the player who ranked last leave his men in the area. Players move their men onto one of the four areas of the Edicts issued by the Lord of the City (i.e. they "vote" one edict). An edict can be voted by more than one player.

The order by which the men in the Council are moved is as follows: first, the player who didn't get to choose a benefit; then, the men on the four benefit squares: upper left square first (provided there is at least one man left), followed by upper right square, then lower left square and last lower right square.

The Edict with the highest number of men is in force for the current turn: move the Lord of the City onto that square to mark it (the player with Leonardo breaks any tie by choosing among tied edicts). Now players take their men back.

The four Edicts have the following effects:

  1. 2 additional Florins for each completed invention;
  2. for each mechanical men you move your work counter 3 spaces forward, instead of the usual 2;
  3. if you placed at least 2 men (or at least the Master) in one shop, for each component you buy in that shop, take an additional component of that type for free;
  4. in the areas from B. to H. you can pay by discarding components from your hand; each component is worth 2 Florins (no change is given when you overpay).

If no players placed men in the Council, no Edict is voted. No Edict is selected or in force during turn 8 and 9.
