Game Components

  • 60 expedition tiles (in 5 colors, each with number tiles from 2–10 as well as 3 wager tiles)
  • 4 raid tiles
  • 2 camps

Preparation

Each of you gets 1 camp. Then shuffle all 60 expedition tiles together with the 4 raid tiles face down and form the face-down supply in the middle. The tiles should be easy for both of you to reach.

Also set out a pen and paper, a smartphone, or a tablet to record the scores.

Now the game begins.

Course of Play

The game runs over 3 rounds. There is a scoring after each round. Whoever has the most points after the third round wins.

Whoever had the most recent birthday goes first. After that, you always take turns.

On your turn, you carry out exactly 1 action. You have the following options:

  1. Either reveal a face-down tile OR
  2. take a face-up tile OR
  3. use a tile from your camp.

1) Reveal a Face-Down Tile

Reveal one of the face-down tiles in the supply.

Is it a number tile or a wager tile?

Then you have one of the following 3 options:

  • Leave the tile face up in the supply.
  • Place the tile face up in your camp. There you have room for a maximum of 2 tiles.
  • Use the tile for an expedition.

To do this, lay it face up in front of you. This either starts a new expedition or continues one of your expeditions already laid out. Further tiles of the same color are placed underneath it. This is your personal display, and only you may add tiles to it during the course of the game!

Attention: In your personal display you may only start 1 expedition per color. However, you do not have to start all 5 expeditions during the course of the game.

At the start of an expedition you may also place one or more matching-colored wager tiles. However, as soon as you have placed a number tile, you may no longer place any further wager tiles on this expedition!

Every number tile that you add to one of your existing expeditions must have a higher value than the tile you most recently added there.

Once you have started an expedition, you may no longer dissolve it. It is scored at the end of the game, even if it brings you minus points (see "End of Game and Scoring").

Bonus Action

The number tiles with the value 2, 3, and 4 show a parchment.

If you start one of your expeditions with such a tile, or continue an existing expedition with one, you may immediately carry out 1 bonus action, if you can. To do this, place 1 further expedition tile from the face-up supply or from your camp, matching, onto the same expedition on which you just placed the number tile with the parchment.

If this tile also shows a parchment, you get a further bonus action, and so on.

Attention: If no matching tile is laid out, this bonus action is forfeited!

Is the revealed tile a raid tile?

Then place the tile face up next to the supply. Now take any face-up or face-down tile, either from the supply or from your camp. Show it face up so that you both know which tile it is. Then place the tile together with the raid tile face down back in the box.

Attention: This removes both tiles from the game!

2) Take a Face-Up Tile

Take one of the face-up tiles from the supply.

  • Place the tile face up in your camp (see above).
  • Use the tile for an expedition (see above).

3) Use a Tile from Your Camp

Take a tile from your camp and use it for an expedition (see above).

Attention: Whichever you choose: your turn ends once you have carried out one of these actions!

End of Game and Scoring

A round ends immediately once you reveal the last face-down tile from the supply. Afterward, you score your expeditions. Go through each expedition on its own.

To do this, add up all the number values of an expedition. From this result, subtract 20 points. These are the expedition costs.

Attention: If you have no expedition or wager tiles at all on an expedition, this expedition also costs you no expedition costs.

After subtracting the expedition costs, check whether you placed 1, 2, or 3 wager tiles at the start of the expedition. If so, multiply the result by 2, 3, or 4. An expedition can therefore earn you plus points or minus points.

Furthermore, each of your expeditions with at least 8 tiles also earns an additional bonus of 20 points.

Attention: This bonus is not multiplied by wager tiles!

Note: Tiles remaining in your camps are worthless at the end.

Finally, note down your points. After that, begin a new round as described under Preparation. This time, whoever has more points goes first.

Whoever has the highest point total after 3 rounds wins!

Scoring Example

You have scored 18 points. 45 − 10 − 40 + 3 + 20 (bonus) = 18
