Setup

Choose which deck and menu you want to play. If you are playing with one of the usual 54-card decks, you have enough cards for six players. If you are playing with a 72-card deck, such as the one for the Ren-fare, you can accommodate up to eight players.

Shuffle and deal the following number of cards to each player, and set the rest of the deck aside:

Players2345678
Cards (54)151211109--
Cards (72)1515151211109

The game will last four days, each composed of several rounds. The first player on each round is the leader. On the first round of each day, the leader is the dealer. After that, the player who fills each order leads the next round.

On Each Round

To begin, the leader chooses an order from the menu, by either rolling or calling it. Exception: on the first round of the day, the leader must roll, but cards pass as if it was a call.

Rolling: To roll the order, roll the die once to choose a Zone, then again to choose a specific item in that Zone. This result becomes the "order."

Calling: To call the order, choose any item freely from the menu. Note: On some menus, there are items that can't be called.

Once there is an order, starting on the leader's left, players may either fill the order or pass.

Filling the Order: To fill the order, play the ingredients from your hand, face up onto the table in front of you. When you fill the order, you take the lead.

Passing: If you decline to fill the order, you must pass a card away. You may pass even if you have the right cards to fill the order. If the order was rolled, you pass the card to the leader. If the order was called, you pass to the left.

Exception: If this is the first round of the day, the leader had to roll the order, but cards still pass to the left.

Short Orders

If everyone passes, the customer gets impatient. The order goes around the table again, and this time you are allowed to leave out one ingredient.

For example, if the order was a Cowabunga (Cow Meat and Bun) you could play just a Cow Meat, or just a Bun. Or you could still play the entire order.

If everyone passes again, this repeats. On the next pass, another item can be left out. Once the order can be filled with no cards, the player on the leader's left must take the lead.

Finishing the Day

The day ends immediately when one player is out of cards. Then it's time to score.

Add up the number values of all the cards you have played, and subtract the values of the cards left in your hand. (Yes, it's possible to have a negative score.)

Pass the deal to the left after each day. Play four days, and then the player with the highest total score wins.

Strategy

Getting more cards can be good or bad. Early in the round, you probably want to accumulate cards, which means rolling an order instead of calling it.

Later on, you will probably want to call an order that you can fill, to get those big sets of cards out of your hand. Just be sure to call something that you think no one else can make!

Take some time to get to know the menu you're playing, and be aware when you break up good sets!

McFrye's Coffee Shop Menu

McFrye's Coffee Shop, the second restaurant in this edition. The menu prints its ingredients as icons only; the ingredient names below are the transcriber's reading of those icons: coffee cup = Coffee, pink carton = Milk, blue cube = Ice, gold swirl = Whip, purple drop = Mocha, green pear = Fruit, brown lump = Dessert.

Special Rules: Zone C is "Coffee Drinks." In Zone C you will create a coffee order by rolling three times: once for the amount of coffee, once for the size of the drink, and once more for any extras. You cannot call items from this Zone.
