Objective Card

  • Name
  • Objective Description
  • Point Value

The value and sticker (victory point) distribution are the same for each of the four board colors.

Example Objective Card: "Green Gloss — Green board with the most cards", worth 3 points.

Setup

  1. Shuffle all Board cards and place them face down in the middle of the table.
  2. Each player draws 2 cards and displays them face up near the draw deck. This forms each player's supply. Players should make sure they leave room below these cards for their personal build area.
  3. Optional: Place the Beach cards on the side of the playing area within reach. See the Beach Cards section for more details.
  4. Shuffle all Objective cards and lay out 4 random cards face up on the side of the playing area. Return the remaining Objective cards to the box as they will not be used.
  5. The player with the lowest total card value in their supply is the first player. If there is a tie, the youngest of these players begins. Thereafter, play progresses clockwise.

How to Play

On your turn, you must take two actions. You may choose two different actions, or you may take one action twice.

Available Actions

Increase Your Supply: Draw one Board card from the top of the deck (A) and add it to your Supply (B).

Start or Extend a Board: Select one card from your Supply (B) and place it in your Build Area (C). Either use the card to start a new board or add the card to a board you have already started. You must follow the build rules as described below.

Swap a Card and Use It: Select one or more cards from your Supply (B) and transfer them to another player's Supply. In return, take ONE card from that player's Supply. The value of the card you take MUST be lower than the total value of the cards you transferred. You must immediately use the newly acquired card to start or extend a board in your Build Area. Note: This is one action all together.

Build Rules

Color: All cards placed on a board must be of the same color. Multi-colored cards are wild and may be used on any board color. A new board may NOT be started with a wild card as you must establish the board color first before applying any wilds. A player may have more than one board of the same color.

Upward: Each board consists of one or more cards. Each card on the same board must be of equal or higher value than the previous card immediately beneath it. The cards are played upwards, partially overlapping earlier cards so that the stickers are covered keeping your victory points hidden, but the card values are visible.

Objective Cards

Objective cards are communal and will score points at the end of the game. For an objective to be met, the board must be Shaped. Boards are considered shaped if they contain at LEAST 4 cards.

A player can only score an objective one time, even if they have met the condition more than once. Multiple players can score the same objective, and if there is a tie for most or least, all tied players score the objective.

Note: In your first game, or for an easier game, you can decide to play without the Objective cards.

Example Objective Cards shown in the rulebook: "Blue Gloss — Blue board with the most cards" (3 points); "Orange Gloss — Yellow board with the most cards" (3 points); "Green Gloss — Green board with the most cards" (3 points); "Point Break — Use no wilds on any board" (3 points).

Beach Cards (Optional)

When a board is shaped, place a Beach card horizontally underneath the first card of the board to act as a base. This card does not count toward the total cards in your board. It is merely an extra thematic touch to the game and can help easily identify shaped boards that will score at the end of the game.

Game End

Boards are considered 'shaped' if they contain at LEAST 4 cards. At the end of a player's turn, they may choose to end the game immediately if they have the following:

  • 2-3 Players: 4 shaped boards, 1 of which must contain at LEAST 7 cards.
  • 4 Players: 3 shaped boards, of which 1 must contain at LEAST 7 cards.

A player may choose NOT to end the game, even if they have the ability to do so. The game will end immediately at the end of a player's turn in which the last Board Card is drawn from the face down deck.

Scoring and Winning

At the end of the game, each player counts their points as follows:

Boards

  • Shaped boards (consisting of 4 or more cards) count for positive points. Each Board card scores points based on the number of stickers it contains. This can range from 1 to 3 points per card. Wild cards do not count for any points, as they contain no stickers.
  • Boards containing only 1 card will lose 2 points. Boards containing 2 or 3 cards will lose 1 point.

Shop Achievements

  • 5 points are awarded to the player with the largest number of shaped boards.
  • 5 points are awarded to the player with the longest shaped board (containing the most Board cards in a single surfboard).

Objectives

  • Players will look at each of the 4 Objective cards and determine how many have been met. Points are awarded based on the number listed on each card.

Note: If more than one player is tied for either the Shop Achievements or the Objectives, then all tied players will receive the points.

Final Score and Winner

  • Once all of the points have been totaled, the highest score wins and is crowned best Surf Shop on the beach! If there is a tie, the tied player who has the highest value wild card in a shaped board wins.
