Overview

This expansion is intended for highly-experienced Leviathan Wilds players who are looking for an increase in variety and challenge.

Each mutation set is inspired by a core game leviathan and adds rules that increase the difficulty and complexity of the game.

We recommend that you have thoroughly experienced the core game before adding any mutations.

Using this Expansion

After Leviathan Setup but before Climber Setup, choose 1 mutation set that does not match your chosen leviathan. Follow any instructions in the "Setup" section of the corresponding card.

Each mutation uses additional rules, cards, and/or tokens to affect gameplay.

Token Placement

Some mutations use tokens that interact with mutation cards. They are placed on specific ledges, crystals, and other spaces on the map.

When placing tokens, follow these rules:

  • When identifying spaces for placement during setup, there must be a minimum of 3 spaces between tokens. For example, if instructed to place on the 2 lowest ledges, after placing on the lowest ledge, if the 2nd lowest is within 3 spaces, you would ignore it as an option.
  • Always place tokens in the listed order, which is important for when a space could be eligible for 2 placements (e.g., highest and left-most).
  • When placing or moving tokens, do not include the starting row, crystal pools, overlays, or components off of the map (e.g., the Hunger's stomach).
  • In case of ties, choose where to place the tokens.
  • "Center-most" refers to the spaces in the vertical and horizontal middle of the map.
  • "Highest" and "lowest" placement is inverted on the Deep core game leviathan.

Below Threat Row

Certain mutation cards are placed below cards in the threat row, often facedown.

Reveal the card (if facedown) after the threat card above it is revealed (during Step 1 of the turn), and resolve it after the threat card above is resolved.

At the end of each round, shuffle and reset these mutation cards per their mutation's setup rules (i.e., place them facedown below the 2nd and 4th threat cards).
