Game Components

  • 48 coin cards (16 x 5 cents, 16 x 10 cents, 16 x 25 cents)
  • 12 dollar cards
  • 12 lemonade cards
  • 12 weather cards

Coin cards are money. A player holds them in hand and may make change with them at any time. A played card is the amount of money the player spent on supplies. The card is laid out so that what the player buys with that money is at the top of the card.

Each coin card has a coin value, a number of cups (the supplies, shown in the top part of the card), and an advertising sign (pointer) in the lower part, with an indication of additional customers.

Number of cups is the maximum number of customers the player can serve that day.

Signs (pointers) can attract additional customers (depending on the weather).

Dollar cards: at any time a player may exchange coin cards totalling $1 for a dollar card. A dollar card cannot be exchanged back into change. Each dollar card has a one-time effect. When it is played, it is placed in front of the player face up (it still counts as $1 and is counted when money earned is totalled at the end of the game). Each dollar card has a name, a card property (effect) and a number.

Lemonade cards: each shows the price at which the player is trying to sell 1 cup of lemonade. If a player sets a price higher than the demand price, he loses some customers (the card shows the penalty for overpricing, e.g. "lose 2 customers and sell the rest at the demand price"), and sells to the remaining buyers at the demand price; if the price is lower, customers pay only that lowered price.

Weather cards: each card has a weather forecast consisting of 5 possible variants (Sunny, Hazy, Hazy, Cloudy, Rain, with a temperature scale). The arrow on the left side of the card points to the row with the weather variant that was on the card played the previous day. Each row shows the number of customers who will visit the lemonade stand that day and the demand price.

Setup

Give each player a set of lemonade cards; return the remaining sets to the box. Divide the other cards into decks: 5 cents, 10 cents, 25 cents, dollar cards and weather cards. Place the coin decks so all players can freely reach them. Shuffle the dollar cards and the weather cards separately and place those decks face down. Place the coin cards face up. Each player takes into hand his lemonade cards, coin cards of total value 25 cents (one 5-cent, one 10-cent and one 25-cent card) and 1 dollar card. Turn over the top weather card and show the players the forecast for the first sales day.

Each Day

  1. Take into account the forecast on the last revealed weather card and prepare for the coming trading day. Each player must play (lay face down in front of himself) 1 lemonade card with a price and 1-3 coin cards (no more than three!). Each player may also play any number of the dollar cards in his hand (also face down) - those that have not been played before. Place each coin card so that what you buy with it (lemonade cups or signs) is at the top of the card (farther from you).

  2. Prepare the lemonade stand for work. Players simultaneously reveal the cards laid in front of them.

  3. Weather. Reveal the top weather card and place it to the right of the previously laid one. The arrow on the new card points to the row with the weather forecast on the old card. This is the weather for the current day.

  4. Play dollar cards. You may play any number of dollar cards, but you cannot cancel the effect of a card already played and revealed. First play the cards that affect their owners, then the remaining cards in the order of the numbers on them (from lowest to highest).

  5. Sell lemonade. Add up all bonuses and penalties received this day and determine how many customers came to your stand and how many cups of lemonade you prepared. One sale needs 1 customer and 1 cup of lemonade.

Multiply the number of sales by the price of 1 cup of lemonade - either the demand price or the price you set on your lemonade card (multiply by whichever price is lower). This is your revenue for the day.

Discard the used coin cards, turn the played dollar cards face up, then take the day's revenue from the coin card decks.

Take your lemonade cards back into hand and prepare for the next day.

(Illustrated example: the player's price is higher than the demand price, so the penalty applies; customers 4 + 6 - 3 = 7; with 6 cups, 6 sales x demand price = revenue of 60 cents.)

End of the Game and Scoring

The game ends as soon as the 7th day has been played. The player with the most money wins!

Additional Rules

  • If a player has no coin cards at all in hand after the revenue stage, he may "run to mommy" and beg for a big, fat 5-cent coin.
  • A player may hold only 4 coin cards of each denomination (5, 10, 25 cents) in hand. If a player must take coin cards and the number of cards would exceed this limit, he must buy a dollar card.
  • The game can be played by 5-8 players if you add another set of game cards (without the weather cards).
