  2. Coins: Give 2 Coins to each player.
  3. Helpers: Each player takes 3 matching Helpers and places them in the spaces on their Character card.
  4. Friendship pawn: Each player takes 1 Friendship pawn matching the color of their Helpers and places it next to the Friendship track on the game board.
  5. First Player token: The youngest player gets the First Player token at the start of the game.

Playing a Round

  • Start of round: Draw cards to fill the face-up cards for Flowers and Garden Friends.
  • Placing Helpers: Starting with the player who has the First Player token, players take turns placing their Helpers at the locations around the board, one at a time.
  • End of round: Each player returns their Helpers to their Character card. If any player has 10 or more Friendship points, players collect their bonus points and the game ends. Otherwise, the First Player token is passed left to the next player and the next round begins.

Card Symbols

There are 5 different symbols used throughout the game. These symbols represent different Flower types and can be found on different cards, including:

  • Flower cards: to show the Flower type that each Flower card can give when getting a Garden Friend.
  • Garden Friends: to show the types of Flower cards needed to get the Garden Friend.

The five symbols are:

  • Berry & Fruit
  • Grass & Leaves
  • Flowers
  • Nuts & Trees
  • Wild

Start of Round

At the start of each round:

  • Flower cards: Draw Flower cards from the top of the Flower deck and place them face-up below the deck until there are 6 face-up Flower cards. (There may be some face-up Flower cards already from the last round.)
  • Garden Friend cards: Draw Garden Friend cards from the top of the Garden Friend deck and place them face-up below the deck until there are 6 face-up Garden Friend cards. (There may be some face-up Garden Friend cards already from the last round.)

Placing Helpers

Starting with the player who has the First Player token, players take turns in clockwise order, placing 1 of their Helpers from their Character card at 1 of the locations on the board. Once all players have placed each of their Helpers on the game board, the round ends.

Locations

There are 5 locations where players can place their Helpers:

  • Flowers: Buy Flower cards to use when getting Garden Friends.
  • Trading Post: Roll the Trading die to trade Flower cards.
  • Garden Friends: Use Flower cards to get Garden Friends.
  • Event: Roll the Event die to gain Friendship, Coins, or Flower cards.
  • Coin: Gain +2 Coins.

Flowers

Place a Helper on the Flowers location to buy 1 Flower card for the cost shown on that card. Most Flower cards cost 1 Coin, but Wild Flowers cost 2 Coins. You may buy any of the face-up Flower cards. Or you can draw a Flower card from the top of the Flower deck for 1 Coin. Place the Flower card in your hand. Any Coins used to purchase a Flower card are returned to the Coin pile.

Flower card:

  • A. Type: The Flower type.
  • B. Cost: The cost of the Flower card.
  • C. Name: The name of the plant.

Coin

Place a Helper on the Coin location to get +2 Coins from the Coin pile. Place the Coins next to your Character card.

Event

Each player may visit the Event location only once per round. Place a Helper on the Event location to roll the Event die. After rolling, get the number of Friendship points, Coins, or Flower cards shown on the face-up side of the die.

Event die symbols:

  • Get +1 Friendship point
  • Get +2 Friendship points
  • Get +2 Coins
  • Get +3 Coins
  • Get +2 Flower cards
  • Get +3 Flower cards

Trading Post

Each player may visit the Trading Post location only once per round. Place a Helper on the Trading Post location and discard 1 Flower card to roll the Trading die. After rolling, draw the number of Flower cards shown on the face-up side of the die.

Garden Friends

Place a Helper on the Garden Friends location to use Flower cards to invite a Garden Friend to your party. To invite a Garden Friend, first discard Flower cards from your hand with the matching number and type of symbols shown on the Garden Friend you would like to invite. Once invited, place the Garden Friend card next to your Character and get the Friendship points, Coins, and/or Flower cards shown on the bottom of the Garden Friend card.

Garden Friend card:

  • A. Symbol: The Flower cards needed to invite the Garden Friend.
  • B. Name: The name of the Garden Friend(s).
  • C. Reward: The bonuses you get when you invite the Garden Friend.

Garden Friend bonuses: Friendship points (fleur-de-lis symbol), Coins (coin symbol), Flower cards (flower card symbol).

Inviting a Garden Friend (example): To invite the Lamb card, first discard 3 Grass & Leaves Flower cards from your hand. Place the Lamb card next to your Character. Get the +2 Friendship points by moving your Friendship token on the Friendship track and get +2 Flower cards from the face-up Flower cards or the top of the Flower deck.

End of Round

Each player returns their Helpers to their Character card. If any player has 10 or more Friendship points, players collect their bonus points and the game ends. Otherwise, the First Player token is passed left to the next player and the next round begins.

Ending the Game

The game ends if any player has earned a total of 10 or more Friendship points at the end of any round. At this point, players can earn more Friendship points from end-of-game bonuses (see below). After players get their bonuses, the player who has the most Friendship points wins the game!

End-of-Game Bonuses

  • Character bonus: Each player gets bonus Friendship points based on how many symbols on their Garden Friend cards match the symbols on their Character card.
    • Example: Ronan's character likes Berry & Fruit. His Garden Friend cards have a total of 4 Berry & Fruit symbols on them, so Ronan gains 3 additional Friendship points at the end of the game.
  • Character card end-game set bonuses: The Character card shows a table of set bonuses for its symbol, read as follows (each row is a number of matching symbols, then the Friendship points gained):
    • 2 symbols: 1 Friendship point
    • 4 symbols: 3 Friendship points
    • 6 symbols: 7 Friendship points
  • Coins bonus: The player(s) with the most Coins at the end of the game get(s) 2 Friendship points.
  • Flower card bonus: The player(s) with the most Flower cards in hand at the end of the game get(s) 2 Friendship points.

Character card:

  • A. Name: The name of your Character.
  • B. Spaces for Helpers: Spaces for your Helpers when they are not on the game board.
  • C. End-game set bonuses: The bonus points earned at the end of the game.

Scoring Example

End-game bonuses example: Poppy has 9 Friendship points at the end of the game. She has the most Coins of all the players, so she gets +2 additional Friendship points. Her character likes Nuts & Trees, and her Garden Friend cards have a total of 3 Nuts & Trees symbols, so she earns +1 more Friendship point. Poppy's score at the end of the game is 9+2+1 = 12 Friendship points.

Winning the Game

After all players get their bonuses, the player with the most Friendship points is the winner! If there is a tie, the tied player with the most Garden Friend cards wins the game. If there is still a tie, the win is shared.
