Goal

The winner is the player with the most cards at the end of the game.

Setup

Place all the cards face up on the table for players to see.

Each card with a frame shows something that can be packed in a suitcase – but there are also six nonsense cards (without frames) in the game – these show things that can't be packed in a suitcase. Or would you pack a fishtank, complete with fish?

Once everyone has looked at the cards, they are turned face down. Now it's time to pack your suitcase!

Play of the Game

The youngest child starts, then play continues clockwise around the table.

When it's your turn, you say, "In my suitcase, I will pack …" and name one of the things that you would like to pack (for example, the camera). Then you turn over a card so that you and all the other players can see it.

  • If you've turned over the card you named, you can take it and lie it face down in front of you. Now you can have another go. If you can name another card and turn it over then you can put it face-down in front of you as well, next to your first card (It's important to keep your cards in order).
  • If you've turned over a different card than the one you named, your turn ends and it's the next child's turn.

But watch out! You may not name the card that was turned over just before your turn – that would be too easy! And of course you can't name the nonsense cards.

What Do the Nonsense Cards Mean?

If you turn over a nonsense card, it gets exciting! You have to show how good your memory is – by naming everything that's already in your suitcase.

You say, "In my suitcase I have …" and name the first card that's in front of you. Now turn it over and see if you were right.

  • If the card shows the item you named, you can name (and then turn over) the next card. Once you've correctly named and turned up all your cards, you can relax. Put the nonsense card back into the box; it's now out of the game. Now turn your cards back over.
  • If you made a mistake and named something that's not the card you just turned over, then you lose a card. Put the nonsense card and the card you just turned over back into the box. Now turn any cards you'd already named back over.

If you turn over a nonsense card before you have any cards in front of you, just turn it back over.

Now it's the next child's turn.

The End of the Game

The game ends when everything has been packed and no cards are left on the table. The winner is the player with the most cards.

Remember

Always say what you think is on a card before you turn it over.

Variation for Smaller Children

For smaller children, only use some of the cards. Begin the game by unpacking the box.

Children take turns to take a card from the box, showing it to the other players and naming the item pictured. Then they place the card face-down on the table.

When all the cards you're using have been placed, start packing as described in the main rules.
