Welcome to kNOW!

You can play the game in two ways: "offline" using the appropriate cards, straight out of the box. This game is recommended for 3-6 players age 10+. Follow the rules marked with the offline symbol.

Or, for the best possible game experience, play "online" using the Google Assistant and "Ravensburger Professor kNOW!" app on your smartphone. This game is suitable for 2-6 players age 16+ (requires a Google account). Follow the rules marked with the online symbol.

For more tips & tricks, see the back page or visit Ravensburger.com/KnowGame. In the UK visit www.ravensburger.org/uk/knowgame.

To use a smartphone or tablet, download the Google Assistant and "Ravensburger Professor kNOW!" app FREE from the Google Play Store (Android) or from the App Store (iOS).

Please note: Using other language assistants or language input from other places (e.g. on the Google search page) might not work or may produce unexpected game results. Even when using the Google Assistant, answers to quiz questions may become temporarily unavailable.

Let's Get Started

To start, all you need to do is read the basic rules in this manual. The game is made up of a series of mini games. You'll find the rules for these in the other manual supplied, as well as in the "Ravensburger Professor kNOW!" app. Read them all now, or just before you play each mini game for the first time.

Playing is even easier if you read the rules via the "Ravensburger Professor kNOW!" app for each game the first time you play them.

Game Components

  • 1 game board in 4 parts
  • 6 pawns
  • 1 buzzer
  • 1 sorting strip
  • 220 double-sided quiz cards

Attention! Since you now also need the "Ravensburger Professor kNOW!" app to play the game, the instructions on the cards are not always correct. Please read the rules of each individual game to understand exactly how to play.

Quiz Card Contents

Each quiz card shows:

  • An online ("connected") icon, or no icon for an offline card.
  • The mini game name.
  • The questions/answers.
  • A writing or buzzer game icon, showing whether the card is for a writing game or a buzzer game.

Set Up

Before you start the first game:

  1. Place the sorting strip in the box. The colors on the sorting strip indicate the correct compartment for each card type.
  2. Sort the quiz cards by color. Then insert the cards with the online (Wi-Fi) symbol into the matching color compartments marked with the online symbol on the sorting strip.
  3. Put the cards without symbols in the matching color compartments without the online symbol.
  4. Then thoroughly shuffle the cards in each compartment.

Before each game:

  1. Take the 4 parts of the game board. Assemble them in the center of the table to form a circle. The words in the background must fit together.

  2. Turn on the buzzer by flipping the switch on the bottom of its case. Place it in the hole in the game board center. To conserve battery power, make sure to turn it off after the game.

  3. Each player chooses a pawn and places it on the blue "Intuition" space next to the starting arrow.

Tip: Want to play with more than 6 players? Just make up teams and use one pawn for each team.

Each player will also need a pen and paper.

  4. Decide whether you want to play the online or the offline game. Then, take either the quiz cards with or without the online symbol and place them on their matching spaces around the buzzer. Leave the rest of the cards in the box.

Tip: You can also play with all the cards. For each color, shuffle all the cards together.

Note: online and offline rules for some mini games differ slightly from each other.

  5. Decide how long you want to play. Each puzzle piece of the game board takes about a quarter of an hour. Choose any line between the puzzle pieces as a finishing line, so that crossing it would end the game.

Tip: You can also specify an exact playing time. If you do, just set a digital timer in the upper right corner of the main menu in the Ravensburger Professor kNOW! app.

  6. Finally, decide who will start the game and be the first quiz master.

The "Ravensburger Professor kNOW!" app can tell you today's starting player. To do this, tap on the start player button in the upper right corner of the main menu.

    The youngest player goes first.

Playing the Game

Play moves in a clockwise direction. Each turn, a player is the quiz master and asks the question for that turn. Once the mini game has been played and points awarded, the next player is the quiz master.

The space where the quiz master's pawn is positioned indicates the color of the next quiz card. The quiz master draws the top card of that color. Then they turn it over, making sure that the other players don't sneak a peek at the contents of the card, and say the name of the mini game.

You can read the rules in the "Ravensburger Professor kNOW!" app now. To do this, tap on the respective game under the "Rules" menu.

Read the rules in the mini game rule book.

If you haven't played this mini game before, then:

The quiz master chooses a task from the card and reads it out loud. Play the mini game according to the rules in the mini game rule book. Once the game has been played, the quiz master gives the solution. Then, players advance their pawns by the number of points they scored.

  • Writing games award 1 point for each correct answer.
  • Buzzer games award 2 points for the correct answer. If the answer is wrong, the other players, including the quiz master, get 1 point instead. (See Special Quiz Master Rules below.)

If it's not clear whether an answer is correct, all players decide together.

Special Quiz Master Rules

  • The quiz master can play in all online games, except for the mini game Quick on the Draw.
  • The quiz master does not play in any offline games, except for the mini game Humming it Up.
  • The quiz master does not score from wrong answers in buzzer offline games.

Winning the Game

The player who is first to cross the agreed-upon finishing line wins the game. If several players cross the finishing line, they all win!

Did you play with a timer? If so, the game ends when the current mini game is completed. The player whose pawn is farthest along the game board is the winner.

5 Rules for Dealing with the Google Assistant

The Google Assistant learns new stuff every day. If it fails to respond, try the following and/or check out the FAQ at Ravensburger.com/KnowGame. In the UK visit www.ravensburger.org/uk/knowgame.

  1. Hey Google or OK Google. Remember to address the Google Assistant with the phrase "Hey Google" or "OK Google", then it will happily listen to you.
  2. Silence is golden! To avoid confusion, only one person should talk to the Google Assistant at a time.
  3. (Hints in parentheses). Some quiz questions feature additional hints found in parentheses after the main question. These are meant as additional help for players. But please don't mention them to the Google Assistant!
  4. Two is better than one! If the Google Assistant does not respond, just ask the question a second time. Speak slowly and clearly.
  5. Houston, we have a problem! If the Google Assistant fails to answer a question despite these tips, just play a replacement question.
