1. Contents

  • 48 Monster cards (8 kinds, 6 of each)
  • 6 Player aids

2. Setup

  1. Each player receives 1 player aid.
  2. Shuffle all the Monster cards well. Deal 2 face-down to each player and place them in front of that player.
  3. Flip 2 Monster cards from the draw pile and lay them in a row in the centre. If the two cards are the same kind, return them to the draw pile, shuffle, and repeat until two different kinds appear.
  4. Roughly split the remaining Monster cards into 2 and place them as 2 draw piles.
  5. The player who most recently knocked on a door nearby is the start player. Play proceeds clockwise.

3. Game Overview

If 7 Monster cards are lined up in front of a player, that player is eliminated immediately. The last player remaining wins.

Also, if at the end of a turn the field row contains all 7 kinds of Monster card, the player whose turn it was wins immediately.

4. Player Elimination

  1. A player who has 7 Monster cards in front of them is eliminated immediately.
  2. The eliminated player turns all of the cards in front of them face up and places them in the discard pile.
  3. After that, all of that player's turns are skipped.

5. Game Flow

  1. On your turn, choose one of the following two actions.

A. Knock Knock

Flip 1 card from the top of either draw pile and add it to the right end of the field row. Then:

  • If there is no card of the same kind in the row, the card's effect must be activated.
  • If there is a card of the same kind in the row, the card's effect is not activated. Take those 2 cards from the field row and place them face down in front of you.

B. Retreat

Do not flip a card this turn. Instead, choose 1 card from the field row and place it face down in front of you.

  1. After your action, the turn passes to the player on your left.

Notes

  1. You may not use or activate the cards in front of you.
  2. You may look at and rearrange your own cards, but do not show them to other players.
  3. Place the discard pile face up in one place.
  4. When either draw pile runs out, shuffle the other draw pile together with the discard pile, and split the result again into 2 draw piles.

6. Game End

The game ends when either of the following occurs. The player who meets one of these conditions wins:

  • Being the last player remaining

or

  • At the end of your turn, the field row contains all 7 kinds of Monster card

7. Monster Card Effects

Cards are identified by their illustrations; the rulebook does not print card names.

Red demon: Activate the effect of the card placed immediately before it in the field row again. Note: if it is the first card in the field row, it has no effect.

Skull: Flip 1 more card from either draw pile.

Werewolf: Choose 1 of the cards in front of you and place it in the discard pile. Note: if you have no cards, nothing happens.

Vampire: Choose 1 of your cards and pass it to the other player with the fewest cards. If there are several such players, choose freely among them. If this makes that opponent's card count 7, that player is eliminated immediately.

Fish: Choose the player who takes the next turn. You may choose yourself.

Zombie: If the card flipped with Knock Knock is a zombie and a zombie of the same kind is already in the row, do not take the cards. Instead, discard both zombie cards.

Purple monster (attack arrows pointing left) and Mummy (attack arrows pointing right): both cards carry the same attack icon, and the rulebook gives one shared text for them. Following the direction shown on the card, reveal 1 card from the player in that direction and place it at the right end of the field row. Then:

  • If there is no card of the same kind in the row, the attack fails. The revealed card stays in the row.
  • If there is a card of the same kind in the row, the attack succeeds. The opponent is eliminated immediately. Place the 2 matching cards from the field row in the discard pile.

If the attack succeeds, continue attacking in the same direction, against the next player. If the attack fails, or there are no cards left from the next player in that direction, the attack ends.

Translator's Notes

  • The source rulebook prints the turn-end win condition two ways. Section 3 says "at the end of a player's turn" (誰かのターン終了時), while Section 6 says "at the end of your turn" (あなたのターン終了時). Both are transcribed as printed.
  • The source prints one shared attack text for the Purple monster and the Mummy. The only difference visible in the artwork is the arrow direction on each card, which is noted above.
  • The Zombie text and the Knock Knock rule both cover what happens when a card matches one already in the row. The source does not state which takes priority beyond the printed wording, which is transcribed as is.
