Age and Players

Age: 10+ Players: 2 to 7

Objective

Be the first player to obtain a gem of each color.

Components

  • 26 gem cards: 4 green, 6 blue, 8 purple, and 8 orange;
  • 24 thief cards;
  • 24 chipote cards;
  • 24 healing cards;
  • 2 help cards;
  • 20 gems: 4 green, 5 blue, 5 purple, and 6 orange;
  • 14 bandage tokens;
  • 7 heart tokens;
  • 1 rulebook.

Setup

Shuffle the cards and deal five to each player. The remaining cards are placed face down in the center of the table, forming the deck. Turn over the top card and place it face up to form the discard pile.

Deal each player a heart token and three bandage tokens.

Form the gem reserve according to the number of players and place it in the center of the table. Any leftover gems are returned to the box.

Playing

The first player, chosen at random, starts the game by performing one of the following actions:

Discard

Discard as many cards as you wish and draw the same number from the deck to return to five cards.

Draw from the Discard Pile

Take the top card from the discard pile and then discard two cards from your hand.

This means you will be left with four cards (until you perform the Discard action or the Play a Set action).

Exchange a Card

Exchange one card from your hand for another belonging to an opponent. On your turn, you must offer the exchange to the rest of the players by calling out loud the card you need.

If one of them accepts the exchange, the cards are passed face down (they must not be shown!). This way, players can lie about what was agreed and hand over a different card than the one they promised.

If no one responds to the offer, or no exchange is agreed upon, the player must perform one of the other four actions.

Exchange Gems

Trade two identical gems for another gem from the reserve. This action can only be performed if the player has three gems of the same color, two of which will be used for the exchange.

Play a Set

Discard a set of three cards of the same type to obtain the corresponding benefit. Before discarding, the player must show the set and then draw three more cards from the deck to return to five.

Once the first player has finished their turn, play continues with the player to their left. The round proceeds clockwise.

Players may never hold more than five cards in hand. The cards used on each turn must be placed face up on the discard pile (in whatever order the player chooses), so that only the last one played remains visible on top of the pile.

If the deck runs out during the game, leave the last card face up, shuffle the discard pile, and play continues.

Benefits

Play 3 Gem Cards: Obtain a Gem from the Reserve

The three cards do not all need to be the same color. The color of the gem obtained depends on the majority of the three cards played. If two of the three cards are the same but there are no gems of that color left in the reserve, the player takes one of the color of the remaining card. If the three cards are of three different colors, the gem will be of one of those three colors, chosen by the player whose turn it is.

If there are no gems of the corresponding color left in the reserve, the player may choose which one to take instead.

Play 3 Thief Cards: Steal a Gem from Another Player

The player chooses an opponent to steal a gem from. They must always steal the lowest-value gem that opponent has.

Gem values:

Green4
Blue3
Purple2
Orange1

Play 3 Chipote Cards: Another Player Loses a Bandage

The player chooses an opponent who will lose a bandage token.

When a player loses their third bandage, they must return to the reserve all the gems they have obtained so far and lose their heart token. If this is the first time it happens, in that same turn they recover their three bandage tokens, but continue the rest of the game without a heart.

When a player runs out of bandages for the second time, they again lose their gems and the game ends for all players. Whoever has accumulated the most points from gems is the winner.

Throughout the game, the player who causes another player to lose their last bandage chooses and takes one of the gems lost by the attacked player.

Play 3 Healing Cards: Recover a Bandage

The player takes a bandage token from the reserve. The heart token cannot be recovered, nor can more than three bandages be accumulated.

End of Game

The game ends when:

  • A player manages to have in their possession a gem of each color, becoming the winner.
  • A player who does not have their heart token runs out of bandages. In this case, whoever has accumulated the most points from gems is the winner.

Important

  • Gems and tokens accumulated must always be visible to all players.
  • Cards in hand may never be shown.
  • Each player may have a maximum of three bandages.

Two-Player Variant

In a two-player game, the heart token is not used.

When a player loses their third bandage, they must return to the reserve all the gems they have gathered so far, one of which the opponent will take. They then recover all three bandages and the game continues.

Team Play (Variant for More Than Seven Players)

In a game of eight or more players, the game must be played in teams. Teams of two players are formed (if there are eight or ten players) or of three (if there are nine). In this mode, the heart token is not used.

Each player gathers gems independently. When one of them obtains all four colors, their team wins.

If a player has two or more identical gems, they may, on their turn, exchange one of them for a gem held by one of their teammates, without being able to perform any other action during their turn.
