How to Win

Finish with the lowest number of points after three rounds by swapping and dumping fridge cards. Each fridge card contains a dish with a fixed number of points, and an allergy.

Round Setup

  1. Shuffle the three piles of fridge cards, special cards and allergy cards, and place them - along with King Fridge - on the table.
  2. All players receive one allergy card face-down, which they may check at any time during the round.
  3. All players receive four fridge cards, positioned face-down in square formation. Before the round begins, check the nearest two fridge cards once.
  4. Place one fridge card face-up next to the draw pile. It forms the start of the discard pile.
  5. The round starts. In the first round, the player closest to an actual fridge starts. From the second round on, the player with most points in the previous round starts.

Components

The setup diagram in the guide shows the following counts and card captions:

  • Fridge card (82x) - captioned "Fridge card". See the dish table in the Cards section.
  • Special card (29x) - captioned "May benefit or sabotage you".
  • Allergy card (10x) - captioned "You get a penalty for each fridge card with this allergy".
  • King Fridge (1x) - captioned "Claim this card when you believe you have the lowest number of points".

The setup diagram labels the draw pile, the discard pile, the allergy card, the special card pile, King Fridge, and the check of the two fridge cards nearest to you (once).

Your Turn

Draw and check a fridge card from either of the piles:

  • Discard pile: swap this card with one of your own fridge cards without checking the latter. Discard your own fridge card (place it face-up on the discard pile).
  • Draw pile: swap this card with one of your own and discard the latter OR choose not to swap and discard the drawn card directly.

If the fridge card you have just discarded holds an action (see "Fridge Cards"), carry it out.

The guide shows three options when taking your turn: Option 1 is drawing from the discard pile and swapping; Option 2a is drawing from the draw pile and swapping; Option 2b is drawing from the draw pile and discarding.

Dumping Fridge Cards

Knowledge is power! If you know which dish any face-down fridge card holds, you may dump it, within or outside your turn. Dump a fridge card by immediately placing it on top of a discarded fridge card. Beware, you may only dump a card on top of a card with the same dish and you must be fast enough.

  1. Same dish - the dish (and therefore the number) on the face-down card you want to dump must be the same as on the discarded card, regardless of allergy and

(The printed sentence ends at "and" in the source. It is transcribed as printed; no words have been added.)

  2. Fast enough - you must be the first player to dump a card on the discarded card (you may not dump a card on top of a 'dumped' card) and the action on the discarded card has not been carried out yet and the next player has not yet started their turn.

When you dump one of the other players' fridge cards, you must place one of your own fridge cards at the other player. You now play with one less fridge card.

If a player dumps a fridge card that holds an action, the action is carried out first by the player who dumped the fridge card and second by the player who discarded the fridge card underneath. This may be the same player.

Beware, at the end of every turn, each player has at least one fridge card. If you dump your last fridge card, draw a new fridge card and do not check it.

Example

The guide illustrates dumping with four players:

  1. Player A discards a fridge card.
  2. Player B makes a mistake.
  3. Player C knows that Player A has a fridge card with a 15 and dumps it.
  4. Player D has a good memory but is too slow.

Player B places the card back and gets one extra face-down fridge card. Player D places the card back and gets one extra face-down fridge card. COOL! Player C chooses one of their own fridge cards and places it at Player A.

End of the Round

Are you convinced that your cards hold the lowest total score of all players' cards? From your third turn on, you may claim King Fridge at the end of your turn. Let the other players know! All other players play one last turn. Tricky detail: after King Fridge has been claimed, the actions held by No Look Nachos and Plunder Pizza change (see "Fridge Cards").

Score

Determine the round score as follows:

  1. Add up all points on your fridge cards.
  2. Add 5 points for each of your fridge cards that match your allergy card(s).
  3. Check whether your "Special Cards" affect your score.

If you are the one who claimed King Fridge, and:

  • You do not have the lowest score: Not cool! Add 15 points to your score.
  • You have (or share) the lowest score: Sweet! Subtract 5 x number of players points from your score.

Note down the scores on a piece of paper. The player with the lowest total score after three rounds wins the game and is crowned King Fridge!

Bonus Fridge

A bitter bonus... In these cases you screwed up and get an extra face-down fridge card:

  • You dump a fridge card on the very first card of the discard pile.
  • You dump a fridge card but it is not the same dish or you are not fast enough.
  • You carry out an action other than the action stated on the discarded fridge card.
  • You carry out an action when the next player has already started their turn.

Beware, in above cases your card dump or action is cancelled.

Do you accidentally disclose another player's fridge card while wrongly trying to dump it? Then, the other player may draw a fridge card, check it, and may choose to place it face-down in front of them. Bury the other card in the middle of the draw pile.

In Short

The goal is to get the lowest score. Every player starts the game with four fridge cards face-down in front of them. Check and remember the nearest two. Now, play the game by taking turns drawing a fridge card. Swap it with one of the fridge cards in front of you or discard it. Your cards will remain face-down during the game.

Be on edge to dump one of your fridge cards when someone discards a card with the same number as your own. Only one card may be dumped in each turn. You snooze, you lose.

When you discard a fridge card, you must use its action. Use actions to check out other players' cards and improve your own. Always remember your allergies, and play special cards to further spice up the game!

Are you confident enough that you have the lowest number of points? Claim King Fridge to try to improve your score even further and end the round!

Cards

Only read this when you have questions about specific cards.

Fridge Cards

Every fridge card holds a dish with a fixed number of points, and an allergy. Some fridge cards also hold an action. There are 15 dishes that each occur five times: once for every allergy. Lastly, there are 3 dishes without allergy.

The guide labels the parts of a fridge card as: number of points (top left), action (top right), allergy (bottom left), and dish (name along the bottom).

* In a game with more than two players, after King Fridge has been claimed, the actions belonging to "No Look Nachos" and "Plunder Pizza" change. The player who carries out the action may no longer swap a card directly between themself and the player who has claimed King Fridge. All other combinations are still allowed.

Allergy Cards

There are five allergies: meat, fish, fungi, nuts and lactose. Each player gets one allergy card at the start of the round. You may check your allergy card at any moment during the game. At round end, each fridge card that matches your allergy card adds 5 points to your score. Try to avoid this!

Special Cards

Some fridge cards tell you to take a special card. You must do this. Special cards must be played immediately unless they depict a frost symbol. You may play special cards with the frost symbol at any moment during or at the end of the round. This can be within or outside your turn, unless stated otherwise.

Each special card carries a number badge in the guide. The guide does not explain what the badge number means, so it is shown here as printed. Cards marked "(frost)" depict the frost symbol.

  • Allergy Party (1): All players play with their allergy cards face-up until round end.
