Multiplayer Mode (2 to 5 players, 30 minutes)
Dominate colors by catching more demons than the other players and act wisely to make those colors score as many points as possible, either by laying Dragon Eggs on the board or by dominating them with a large majority.
Components
- 13 Polyominoes
- 100 Demon Tokens
- 50 Dragon Eggs
- Dragon Token
- Start Player Token
- 2 White Demons
- 1 Board
- Aura Points
- 1 Bag
Preparation
- Place a stack of two random Demon Tokens on every square of the Board.
- Place the Polyominoes and Dragon Token in a circle around the Board.
- Place the Dragon Eggs next to the Board.
- Give the Start Player Token to the eldest player. Let's play!
Course of the Game
The game will progress in turns. On your turns, you must always catch three* demons using a polyomino. You can also remove an egg and/or lay new ones. Follow these steps:
1. Choose a polyomino
You can choose from the two polyominoes in front of the Dragon Token, going clockwise. Advance the Dragon Token just past your chosen one.
2. Catch demons
Take your chosen polyomino and place it temporarily anywhere on the board, in any orientation, as long as each of the three* Demon Symbols covers a Demon Token (or stack) on the board. Catch the topmost Demon Token under each Demon Symbol. You will have caught exactly three* Demon Tokens. Place your caught Demons in front of you, in full view of everyone.
3. Remove a Dragon Egg (Optional)
If you manage to match the egg symbol on the polyomino with a Dragon Egg on the board, return it to its pile.
4. Lay Dragon Eggs (Optional)
Place Dragon Eggs of ONLY ONE demon color you caught THIS TURN on any or all empty squares below the Polyomino. Return the Polyomino to its position, now behind the Dragon Token.
*If you're playing with 5 players, catch TWO Demons instead of three. To do this, ignore the red bottled Demon Symbol on the polyominoes. Feel free to try this variant with different player counts, including 2 players using the board printed on the bag. When playing with this board, place only four Dragon Eggs of each color during the Preparation phase.
End of the Game
The end of the game begins when it is completely impossible to catch three* Demon Tokens with an available Polyomino.
If this happens during the start player's turn, the game ends. Otherwise, the remaining players - up to the Start Player - play an additional turn. On your additional turn, you can choose between:
- Play a standard turn with all polyominoes available to choose from.
- Or receive three points.
Scoring
Score one color at a time. You get Aura Points if you have caught the most, or second-most Demon Tokens of a color. You get points in 2 ways:
1. Dragon Eggs Bonus
Count the Dragon Eggs of a color on the board. Add 1 for each Dragon Egg of this color on a square of its own color. The total is the Dragon Egg Bonus for this color. The player(s) with the most caught demons of this color receive a number of points equal to this color's Dragon Egg Bonus. The player(s) with the second-most demons of this color receive half the Dragon Egg Bonus, rounded up. When there is a tie in first place, no points are awarded for second place.
2. Leader Bonus
Subtract the second-highest number of caught Demons of this color from the highest. The difference is this color's Leader Bonus. For example, if Alice has 4 red demons, Bob has 3, Charlie has 2, and Dave has 1, then the red Leader Bonus is 1 point. When there is a tie in the highest number, the leader bonus is 0. For example, If Alice and Bob have 4 red demons each, Charlie has 2, and Dave has 1 then the red Leader Bonus is 0 points. The player with the most demons of this color receive a number of points equal to this color's Leader Bonus.
TWO PLAYERS: Round the Leader Bonus down to the nearest multiple of 3. For example, if Alice has 5 more red demons than Bob, the red Leader Bonus is 3, not 5.
After scoring all five colors and receiving both the Dragon Egg and Leader bonuses, the player with the most points wins the game. In case of a tie the player with more caught demons of a same color wins. If still tied, the winner is the player who scores from more colors. If there's still a tie, all the tied players share the victory.
Solo Mode and Advanced Multiplayer Variant
This mode follows the base game rules with the following modifications:
Preparation
Place a White Demon over the stack of Demon Tokens on the B2 and F6 squares.
Course of the Game
At the end of your turn, the White Demons move as follows:
- Choose a different arrow from the Polyomino you just placed for each White Demon.
- Move each White Demon to the next square in the direction of its chosen arrow. The direction depends on how the Polyomino was oriented when placed.
White Demon Movement Rules
- When a White Demon ends its movement on a Dragon Egg, return that Egg to its pile.
- When both White Demons end their movement on the same square, stack them.
- When a White Demon moves off the edge of the Board, it appears on the opposite side.
- You cannot catch White Demons.
End of the Game
The game ends under the base multiplayer conditions.
Scoring
In Solo Mode the Leader Bonus does not apply and you lose one point for each Demon Token still on the board.
| Points | Solo Score Tier |
|---|---|
| 30 or less points | Lost in the Shadows |
| 31 - 40 points | Light in the Gloom |
| 41 - 50 points | Rookie Dragon Rider |
| 51 - 55 points | Dragon Knight |
| 56 - 59 points | Dragon Master |
| 60 or more points | Draconic Eggstasy!!! |
Advanced Multiplayer Variant uses base multiplayer scoring.
